just ran it through some plugins - the backwards effect in the transition is actually an apology from the band for not putting defeat on the album

confused, defeat is track 5 on the album.

i got an email from domino that has the track listing (though i imagine it's already been posted):

1. soul capturer
2. genies
3. broke zodiac
4. magicians from baltimore
5. gem and i
6. stride rite
7. all the clubs are broken
8. kings walk

who was closest by the way?

I think you should get your eyes checked, Defeat clearly isn't listed there.

LOL you actually made me go back and check. well done.

Great sleuthing with the Genie's lyrics, 油の男.

Also yes was gonna say this about Magicians! Not even magnoliaS, just magnolia!

Deakin confirmed in an IG message that he plays bass in Soul Capturer and Avey plays guitar. Geo is on all the keys and electronics. Pretty cool—I’d assumed Deakin played all the little flourishes on keys

Very cool. I was standing right in front of Geo at the NJ show last year and noticed he is actually playing keyboards a ton during these songs. Totally weird to see him playing an instrument the way it's supposed to be played instead of triggering samples and moving faders up and down.

Slicing off the intro is so perfect for this single-as-opener. Now we get to spin this, then when the album comes out we also get fresh juice from the first squeeze

a little blurb on rough trade calls gem and i a single:

Across its 9 tracks, Isn’t It Now? has something for everyone from the catchy bassline on the highly-repeatable single “Gem and I” to the heady 22min centrepiece “Defeat” which we recently released on 12”.

Damn. I like this tangerine more than the orchid they had on Domino. Already ordered though…

Imo happy the domino version is purple. These songs have felt deep dark ocean blue and shadowy purple to me since forever. The orange/green in the art is working for me too, but glad the purple vibe stuck somewhere

the production is just so ridiculously good, sounds so warm and authentic and rich, this is about to be the first AC album where the studio versions are straightforwardly better than live across the board

looking at the tracklist invokes such strange emotions , like seeing names like magicians from baltimore and broke zodiac actually on an album, so wild to me, so so wild. sc sounds great, glad they added the drum flourishes

this 100%. i'm actually stunned by the production here. russ pulled the fuck through. i am so high on this song and the production both here and on defeat.

curious about what's different between the single and album versions of soul cap. maybe just an outro / transition?

in any case it's a cool song. I like the production and the drumming sounds kind of Feels-esque. but I feel satisfied after one listen, don't feel like I need to replay it until the full album is out (which isn't usually the case with new AC singles)

fireworks started as allman vibe(s)
the only SJ change I can think of
cuckoo cuckoo could’ve just been abbreviated on setlists

Ok… Defeat *just* clicked for me… so mystical and powerful… i put off listening for a while cuz it’s so long… but damn, long and slow songs are the medicine this sick world needs right now. Feeling blessed for this feeling of connection to the music and community around the band <3

And Soul Capturer - Single Version, so comforting and warm

in some press release or something it states it has an intro to the album that’s not on the single. probably dave just saying hey y’all it’s animal collective! and then the song starts

Never really buy vinyl anymore but this album just felt necessary. SC sounds great, lotta feels vibes coming through. Also gotta say this era has some of the boys best vocals ever. Avey + panda backing vocal is so classic and now deakin has really made a mark too

yeah you're right actually... can't decide which one i want now

if tangerine is the indie exclusive then i might just wait til my local record store lists it, otherwise i'm probably ok with black, that's what i ended up going with for spirit

Well I preordered that immediately after telling myself I wouldn’t buy the vinyl. Really digging this love the production especially the vocals. I appreciate pandas guitar playing but the part I’ve always enjoyed from this song is pandas backing vocals which they nailed here. That mans voice is like butter

I think their homepage is bugged, i’m still seeing stuff from yesterday and if you go to the news section, there’s a bunch of stuff that would be on the front page rather than Jack Whites auction
