Was imagining a Zaireeka-style AC album where you could choose who you want to hear on each song for the new album. It actually would've worked really well on Painting With (sonically and thematically). Like if you selected only Geo and Avey you'd lose Panda's vocals and the bass. You could mix and match all the songs like this.

Cool idea! My vote would be to get a Zaireeka-style Centipede Hz. It's dense at knotty as it is. Painting With with all the hocketing madness would be super cool too! Imagine playing the parts on a couple different boomboxes around the room with the harmonies bouncing around slightly out of sync!

Transverse Temporal Gyrus got pretty close to this! Would be interesting to see if they explored that further in the future but I dunno what they're going to want to do for this next release. I'm guessing something much more straightforward. I dunno if they think anyone has time for weird stuff at the moment. I'm hoping for just a big meaty chunk of music to get lost in rather than something with a shit ton of different possible versions. That stresses me out. I don't know how fans cope with releases like Tomboy or The Life of Pablo. I'm so much more fond of Avey's approach to music releases than Panda's. I guess he has less pressure on him as a solo artist to keep the hype train going though.

Revisited some of last year's sets in the dead of night while returning from the holidays. I waited just long enough that the material feels so so fresh and the excitement has me jumping out of my skin again.

Some random insomnia thoughts:
-Would be interesting if Defeat was a "Knot Suite" and different parts of the suite were spread across the album and opened each side. The piece flows through the album, thematically tying it all together.
-Obviously this is sacrilege as the song is a flawless masterwork that really really gets under my skin and is deeply moving and it'd be a weird move to split it up but hey, curveball!

-Kings feels like a perfect album opener. Passerby would be an excellent 2nd track.

DownDownDownDown is still my favorite follow-up to Defeat. It serves as a glistening coda to the vibe; stoking the embers as you watch the fire die down, smoke floating up into the stars. Passerby would also work as a tone-shifting pallet cleanser after these two.

Do it Abbey Road style and just cut one bit out and slap it unceremoniously on the end of the album

I mentioned this is another thread. I don't know if its already been posted.

Someone put the new LP's title on 4chan. It was posted like a year ago during the tour. They didn't put much info about the album besides the title. He knew someone in the band or a friend.

It was fake unfortunately. Unless they recorded an album in the summer of 2019 and just never released it

Thinking this may be like a circus or medieval circus themed thing. Might even have circus in the title. Just has a nice ring to it.

For this reason passerby will be the track to die for on this LP. Pester John too but that doesn't have the vocoder

just listened to the meow wolf boot again, far out this album is all mood. Dark, slow & ambient....

Cherokee is the odd one out, don't vibe with it all. No need for a wacky song when there's so much depth and feeling on this

panda bear really is a sensational drummer. I love how you can hear so much of his style in a relatively straightforward song like DownDownDownDown

An apt theme for an album released in the time of Clown World. What a strange reality we share these days. The simulation is breaking down :siren:

a morsel?

If I remember correctly they said towards the summer of 2019 they were actively writing songs. Maybe with more understanding of covid now or their ability to adapt to the situation they are finally putting them down for the album? I wonder if they're using the same e-mailing tracks or mailing tapes format they were using for CHz. All I know is Defeat A Not Suite better be on this album. They have blue balled us too many times with great tour songs that never end up getting recorded.

Do we know who could possibly be doing production on the album? Do you think it will be Josh? Has Sonic Boom hinted at anything? Will they go with someone entirely new?

I really want the guys to branch out from their familiar work hands in the studio. Having new sets of ears and new workflows can exfoliate a song that could otherwise get clogged by habits. It’s a new era after all—both politically, socially, psychologically—so it seems that “newness” should/would be something they’re taking into the studio with them.

A breakout artist from this year that could play well with AC’s jazzy sounds from the 2019 tour is Christopher Bear / Fools, although his sound could be too dreamscape-like in this flamboyant way.

I imagine a lot of space in this record which worries me that they might be recording separately and trading files.

rusty santos did phenomenal work with buoys and reinvigorated pandas music for me. i would so be down for him to work with ac again for this album.

ag cook would also be bonkers (and fitting since they are using so much autotune on this and are recording remotely which he's got lots of experience in)

i hope they don't self produce. bridge to quiet was so muddy and unappealing sounding to me.

I would definitely not mind Rusty producing. Didn't he do Centipede Hz as well? That album was actually so well done in terms.of production. Really do love it to this day.

nah I'm not speaking of the '00s indie sound, I'm speaking about how ac tends to stay close to family for their projects. when they find a producer or engineer they have a tendency to stick with them for multiple projects which I tend to think fatigues the creativity in their sound. while ac was lumped into the '00s indie sound, I'd argue they are sonically and psychologically very far away from those sorts of artists. very much in their own lane. getting someone like Christopher bear seems sweet because of the unique field that his fools project is part of, that LA/leaving records scene/new ambient scene. Dustin and Takakao who toured with them in 2019 are very much part of that scene, so it makes a lil bit of sense to me that they could look in that direction.

Whoever mixes it, I assume they'll spend more time on getting it to sound good than with Bridge to Quiet.

Did no one else appreciate the double entendre of Panda's tweet or was it just so obvious no one bothered to say anything

Like, that's one of the best tweets from a recording artist I've ever seen

Or are you guys still not weary of takes yet

They should give it to Sandro Perri (Sandro Perri rules).
At least Panda likes at least Sky Histoire, which is one of my all time favourites.

Although most of the work is probably done already.

Basically they're almost done with the next album, but decided that there were a few songs they didn't want to attempt recording until they could all be in a room together. Very curious which ones they are...
