ugh I just want them to write on and play instruments again; hearing guitar and drums on Sleep Cycle is so refreshing!

it always gits me riled when ppl say "they should play instruments", and usually "instruments" refers exclusively to guitars.

i guess it depends what you are able do with a guitar. i wouldn't say that all guitars sound boring, but if you're referring to the classic rock distortion sound than i guess you've got a point of it being a little overused by now.

I enjoy imagining Geo as a satyr, dancing wildly and with abandon in a lush field as he blows his soul into the flute that we hear at the end of Lying In The Grass.

I was pretty bored at work so I did some basic analysis on the track rating sets for Painting With on RYM.
Highest rated song is Floridada with a 7.9/10
Lowest rated is Summing the Wretch with 6.0/10
Average for the Avey songs is 7.2/10
Average for the Panda songs is 6.3/10
Funnily enough the average album rating from them all is 6.2 - the same that Pitchfork gave it.

Was daydreaming the other day and thought if this :
What if they reissued the album as two 10" records, one with the Avey tracks and one with the panda tracks, plus a 12" with Michael Remember and Danny's Jam
Each could use the Avey, Panda and Geo artworks respectively

could on delay be a song that came about from avey asking himself why he lloved delay so much, what it really represents emotionally and personally to him to he the words repeated and cloned and faded into the "feedback zone". you get this real kkind of love feeling about it , the two of us together my steps will follow.. like hes romanticising this feedback zone -> romanticising delay?

I like that ^
I was thinking about delay in general recently, and I realised it sounds great because you can hear a moment more than once which lets you really explore the sound. and it's more organic sounding than just looping. without delay any sound you hear is immediately in the past. So when you add delay you can relax and let the sounds stretch out in front of you.

On Delay is one of the funniest songs on here, to me it's a comedy song just full of double entendres (whoa meta) about doubles, and then the middle 8 that's thrice
All the songs are funny on here, I'm pretty sure all pandas songs are about weed, fapping, or video games

Hocus Pocus could be about weed. Or at least the effects of drugs as well as how some people try to illegalize/suppress these effects. But actually, to me, it seems to just broadly talk about different ways of perceiving the world around us and achieving an enlightened state
Not sure if I'd say any song is about or alludes to video games. Maybe spilling guts, but that's a stretch

Also I have to say, I'm really loving and still connecting to this album. It's a fun, sunny record, but also a very thought provoking one. The only other album by AC that has provided me with such meaning and clarity has been Feels. Whereas that album speaks to my inner emotions, dealing with topics of love and loss, PW speaks to topics within the outside world. Ideas and problems that are harder to discuss and thus more abstract. Which is why it makes sense that they chose abstract art as a theme within the album
It's as if during Feels, the band played the role of psychologists
And during Painting With, the band plays the role of anthropologists

I listened to this album at least several times a week every week since it came out, but took a break from it for the last couple of weeks. Listened to it again today and it sounded better than ever
Can't get over how good Summing the Wretch is. Recycling is such a weird but perfect closer

Yeah this, HP definitely feels pro legalisation (I know others have thought this too)
& Spilling Guts can read like a super ironic nerd taking a shooter far too seriously IDK
.... Tho recycling sounds like Panda's relationship to his own music, not following trends but being strong in his own direction, even after so much success. He doesn't want to give the impression of being slack on the periphery of trends, but is more concerned with the strength & depth of his own art? IMO lol
I just kinda get the sense it's fun album that nothing is really taken too seriously, dada yo....

Boom. Bingo
It's interesting that Dadaism was at its height in the art world almost exactly 100 years ago. Stemming out from the horror and injustices around them, the Dadaists decided to analyze all the horrible events of their time and instead of reacting in nihilistic ways, like previous generations may have, they decide to have some fun. They embraced their inner lunacy just like AC has. It's message is saying its better to create and have some fun than to mope and feel helpless

"While you got it, you figure, why not launch off of the very highest rope" - fatalistic excess
"When you're rotten, you figure, why not stick up for the very finest dope" - corrupt body supporting corrupt politics
"While you're huffing, you figure, why not soak up all the craze instead of cope" - joining in on ambient rage/violence/exasperation
These are all very Dada (not to mention hard-hitting) sentiments for me.
