That video is insane.

It's a shame, I really wish the album version could more be like that live version

ya pride and fight happened again in nola last night and it was insane, didn't know they brought it back so I lost it almost harder than even Alvin made me lose it back at the philly show in march. was really really good

also, during jimmy mack, which just keeps getting better, avey had this kind of impromptu-seeming speech type thing in the middle of it where he was saying all this stuff about how we were all equals .. I couldn't really make all of it out but I knew what he was talking about, he said something about appreciating the people next to u and ppl like started hugging and stuff. that might sound corny but like idk it was really cool, like musically but also message wise.

was very cathartic, its cool they are addressing this craziness in a way that doesn't detract from the music. jimmy mack is sooooooooooooo good damn. would love a studio of that

also, wonder if the new loch raven and Alvin row have already been semi-retired/put back in cold-storage? those and DR were some of my favorite moments from the first leg of this tour but its cool cuz Kids on Holiday/Pride and Fight/Water Curses totally make up for that holy shit...

Caught the Jacksonville show and it was unbelievably jovial. Finally getting to see Kids and Guts made my year but Guys Eyes seemed to be the centerpiece banger of the night.

There was an amazing intro to Guys where Avey sang something about falling and standing. What was it??! That bled into The Other One intro / Water Curses and Jimmy Mack. Avey's speech in the middle of Jimmy (tell the person next to you that you love them, etc.) was amazing and just the kind of audience interaction their live show has been lacking.

The hocketing was top notch and really seems to be perfected in the live setting. Dying for a boot (as always).

loch raven got played in NY. I was really hoping they wouldn't fully retire that. Daily Routine and Alvin have seemed to be dropped. which is sad. Both of those were top notch. I love water curses/ summertime/guys eyes but I'd much rather their picks from the first half of the tour. also kids is fucking epic. I'm feeling banshee beat will make a comeback next tour

HOLY SHIT. Woulda sold my soul to the devil to be at the NOLA show. The visuals were absolutely stunning, Abby has really out done herself. And the boys sound raw and mighty as per usual.

ulterior motives to this? aka testing out new music? seems weird? panda and avey should (would usually be) working on solo stuff. odd to interrupt that for something short. maybe theyve just had so much fun?

cannot tell why you guys think this is bizarre. the band usually tours for more than one year.

also, as a reminder if you are new fans, painting with is historically an anomaly. they usually tour music live a lot.

The length of the tour isnt the bizarre part. The 6 month gap (and tiny tour of places they've already been on this tour) is the bizarre part.

Been a fan for 10 years and I'm aware that painting with is the first time they did studio recording before road testing. But the reason they did it that way for so long is because they feared they would get bored of the studio versions of the song if they toured with that material night after night. So I think it's justified to see this as a bizarre move unless they do have something up their sleeve

why is it bizarre for a band to tour some, have some time off, then tour more? that's how touring works.

in 2009 they played nyc in january, then again in may, then again in august. was it bizarre?

maybe there's a 6 month gap because they're doing some summer festivals? maybe they're going to play some new songs? all typical options of animal collective touring.

its that they have been touring since january/february this year right? a long tour for them and any band for one album.

they've had a bunch of extended breaks though. It hasn't been constant touring a la the 2009 merriweather shows.

i don't get it honestly. every time a musician actually bothers to come to south carolina, it's always the music farm. why not somewhere in say, columbia? much more central, and you'll probably get a decent sound.

So is DC the center of the Animal Collective touring universe? For the Painting With tours there have been/will be 7 shows within a 2.5 hour drive from DC. 3 at 930, Bmore, RVA, C'ville, Wilmington DE and Philly. Hope they bust out some new material. Def going to catch that Charlottesville show. I bet Abby does some cool stuff with that room.

Animal Collective have announced some 2017 tour dates.

The year 2,017 is not 2,016. It's a separate year

http://bit.ly/ACTour

Mostly southern and east coast tour dates. I can't wait.

It's mostly a joke, but honestly they've played all their 2016 dates except for a DJ set. Some people seeing the thread bumped might not assume 2017 tour dates have been announced. It could be semantic, sure but whatever.

as far as touring cycles go per album - for over a decade they've toured through 3 calendar years per record.
Centipede = 2011 - 2013
MPP = 2007 - 2009
SJ = 2005 - 2007
Feels = 2004 - 2006

I would be surprised if the PW era extends into 2018, but I'm glad they'll be back on the road next year, been really into their live show this cycle. Also, as far as Panda & Avey working on solo stuff, they're on a roughly 6 month break right now, they're probably hard at work!

I kind of hate myself for doing as much research as I did to defend my anecdotal observation that it is "bizarre" for Animal Collective to take a 6 month break and return to the same material/tour. The point doesn't really matter and I certainly did not think it was going to be such a controversial thing to say... but, as it turns out this statement can be defended with facts.

I literally scrolled through the entire chronology of Animal Collective shows and this will be the first time the band has ever taken a 6 month break from touring and returned to the same material/tour. So yeah, it's bizarre based on their history. Especially given the fact that 2016 was their second heaviest touring year of their career with ~79 shows. The only year they played more shows was 2009 (89 shows) and that material was spread across MPP/Fall Be Kind.

There have been a few year long breaks Nov 2007-2008, July 2011- June 2012, Feb 2015-Feb 2016 and after the Centipede tour they played a handful of one-off shows throughout 2014-2015 but the closest they've ever come to a break like this occurred well over a decade ago-- a 5 month break June 01-Nov 01 (Danse Manatee), Sept 02 -Feb 03 (Campfire/HCTI) and Nov 04-Apr 05 (Feels). But even then, they weren't exactly returning to the previous material after their breaks.

Don't get me wrong, I am really excited that we get more chances to see them soon! Bizarre isn't a bad word- it was just an observation. I remember Panda said there would be "no major AC tours in 2017" and it does seem odd to me to re-assemble the whole crew and all that after a 6 month hiatus only to play a handful of shows, unless they are working on something new and they want to it test for audiences. Either way, I'll take it!

and even if its same material itl be all good since pride and fight was played only at the tail end of the 2016 tours
