Also it's been mentioned before but it totally sounds like Panda is singing backup vocals on that version from the DJ set

I got into the 2011 Avey boots really late but Mountain Game is probably my favorite AC (or solo) song in an odd time signature. Like Avey has a handful of songs in that style (Sweet Road, Lion in a Coma) but Mountain Game has the most natural feeling rhythm out of those imo. It's so off kilter but flows so effortlessly

Yeah that's really great, it's funny how that little cluster of songs is incredibly cohesive and pretty much every one is killer, kind of like a refinement of Down There. Maybe that's why they're still unreleased, too similar to the Down There stuff.
And yeah, totally agree about the time sig, it's got a strange rolling rhythm, like a guy lurching across the plains carrying several heavy packs.

This thread inspired me to listen to "On a Beach" for the first time in a long time. Is that a Godspeed sample I hear?

Does anyone remember the names of those two songs that ripped on the melodies from "Bros" and "Walkabout" respectively

The sad part is the song is recorded well. This guy just needs to find his own voice.

Do you guys think that avey says "roots" or "routes" in kids on holiday?

Huh, I never thought about it being "routes." I guess that might make more sense

yeah I like had never looked up the lyrics before last night but I always heard it as routes
oh wow i never thought of routes either. i guess you could argue either way
i always thought 'roots' as in 'family roots', which makes a lot of sense to me in the context of the song. thought that the song was telling 'kids on holiday' to 'enjoy their (family) roots and have some fun' even though dealing with your family / vacation logistics can be stressful

I'm sure this is playing out exactly as the band had intended. I always vibed more with "roots" given the whole family vacation vibe but I would bet money that the band was aware of the double meaning during the writing process.

see I think routes because the rest of the song explains a bunch of bad things happening during the traveling process of vacation. people ignore the travel aspect of vacation, they just like being there. not getting there. enjoy your routes.

I don't think there is a right answer by design. Well, I guess "both" is probably the most accurate answer.

it's statistically more likely to be "roots" because some people pronounce "routes" to rhyme with "louts"
it's routes though

I think he's just trying to engage the crowd and get out of his own comfort zone
He's always been pretty awkward talking to the audience so maybe he's trying to get over that by diving in the deep end?
