I know this is the unpopular opinions thread, but I'm really sick of hearing people say that Panda Bear has been "phoning it in" or "only in it for the money". Just because you don't like his recent material doesn't mean that he hasn't been putting the same level of effort into it as he did in the past, especially because a lot of people (including myself) love his new songs just as much or more than anything else he's done. I think it's really rude to discredit his art as lazy or uninspired just because you don't happen to like the direction he's taken.

sorry guys im drunk. i drink a lot.
this thread makes me laugh so much though.

tbh i love every single thing about animal collective . and i love all of you guys too.. its such a surprise for me to see what people dislike.... its silly.. heres the trump card.. you already like them dude... if you cant keep up.. maybe youre the one stuck in the hcti, spirit, campfire, danse ages....

they didnt really know how to make music back then dude in a way...in those spirit days... it was experimental...,those werent MPP experienced albums obviously.. they grew up as experimenters... and did whatever the fuck they wanted... "NOISE CORE" which is what people labeled them as... back then.. BUT THEN... they listened to the beatles as well...and to know how pop music works... and eventually have albums that get a 9.4 (for strawberry).. a 9.6 (for merriweather) on p4k...

and then what did they do after that? go back to the experimentation stage... their bread and butter... and all of a sudden the fans hate them like p4k? ,,, centipede,,, pw,,,,,are you guys serious???
BUT OH NO... this experimentation sucks now????. everyone was on board for merriweather but they hate centipede lolololol... but people love danse manatee..
it drive me crazy because it feels like people dont really connect with the artist then.
its an unfair judgement of new school ideas...
man then you are not following the story well.
painting with is basically the perfect album for that band to create.
just sit down and listen to spirit and realize that same band made painting with,
THATS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL

i have seen AC live 9 times and panda always blows me away with his energy. last i saw them in seattle i had an emotional movement when i noticed how much he gives it at the end of the Burglars. so much heart

here are my contributions to this thread. see if anyone can relate
in my opinion:

- the crazy live versions of chores were so awesome compared to the SJ version
- i love the way avey used to sing on My Girls and wonder why he changed it
- they could have done a better recording of Crimson cause that song is amazing
- the only uninspired moments i feel on PW is the Vertical chorus, and it's frustrating because that song has the best verses
- their music videos are pretty whatever
- songs i don't get: winter wonderland, turn into something, moonjock, butcher baker candlestick maker, floridada

Bagels is good, but compared to the rest of PW it's kinda dull

Besides Floridada, those are legitimately among my favourites on each of their albums

Yeah, the early live vocal which went way low, sounded like that 'soul' sound he mentioned wrt Laughing Hieroglyphic. I really loved that. So much emotion to it. Likewise, Noah's high harmonies on My Girls. On record, it's very mellow and all mid range. Great, but different, and I preferred the earlier renditions.

Butcher... is such a boring fucking song. It's the only panda song I can barely listen to.

I'm not contrarian but... these are just "things I don't like about Animal Collective", I'm not sure you understand the point of the thread?

like, none of these are especially contrarian/unpopular views

-Well first off Panda Bear is the only one who's name of an animal. So what gives.
-Can't call a radio station CENTIPEDE FM guys. Toooo many letters.
-Avery Tare should sing less, in fact he shouldn't sing at all. He should just honk like Skeeter from doug, honk honk. If they sample enough honks he won't have to go on tour ever again.
-I dont even have a brother so who should I sport
-My gf dumped me last winter so winter is actually the time for hate, not love, easy mistake to make as I did when I ask her out last Valentines day. Valentines day should be moved to the summer or something maybe to my birthday
-It's actually less safe in the dark more crimes happen in the dark.
-Actually my favorite color is blue not whatever the fuck color that is
-Should have named Strawberry Jam NBA Jam cause strawberries are fuckin gross and Panda Bear "got game," basketball game that is. Should of called it How Panda Bear Beat Shaq and dunked the other three losers straight into the trash
-Why didn't they make a sequel to Air Bud starring an actual panda bear voiced by Noah Lennox. Instead of some avantguard horse shit.
-I know why they called it oddsac by the way, but trust me you don't want to know. Suffice to say you don't want to get dunked on by Panda Bear. Especially if you have testicels

ok here's my bad dreams about the band....not all how i feel all the time....i dont wanna sound.....but yea....these are mine, sorry

- CHz and Painting With I have to try to listen to
- Geo should fuck off during interviews n let others talk
- Painting with is one album too many of this kind of material
- They need to bring back acoustic guitars and wow us again
- They could break up any day now
- If they break up Panda may just go away forever
- Deakin's album's cool, but he's slacking per band contribution
- A new album without Geo would be chill AF
- A new album without Avey would be chill AF
- They need to bump their game up to classic rock status
- ....like, able to play any of their old songs but also be exciting!
- They wont do this, who are we kidding?
- Panda's lack of vocals during CHz and PW is dissapointing
- Pulhair Rubeye is hella underrated
- Wide Awake is worst song on CHz and is not Peak DEak
- The Sung Tongs live shows were the high point of the band
- Panda's done having fun, Avey is worried about him
- PBVGR style visuals should have carried into PW live sets
- Their ATP Event had better acts than their Camping weekend

and lastly, the worst thought i have about the band...

- PANDA'S JUST DOING IT FOR THE MONEY

....there i said it

lemme clarify...

I love them absolutely, this is just the airing our bullshit feelings thread...as far as Panda only being in it for the money....i was a being a dick about it, and of course hes not ONLY in it for the money...and I love his recent material, BUT I feel like he'd rather chill n not be a band bro, in his heart, and a fear i have is he's doing the band for a last few rounds...just feel like Avey's more inspired....

basically, "i hate fathers and I never wanted to be one" :(

Yeah, I'll have that. The worst thing they've ever done, purely because of that loop. Sounds like something I did on the Nintendo DS Korg synth in three minutes, passing the time while I'm having a fairly brisk shite.

agree with this. it's my least favorite AC song, yet when we saw them play it, i was jumping around and loving it. it REALLY didn't translate to the studio i think.

interesting. can't say i disagree.
