basically what everyone else has said. deakin's voice on golden chords is super emotive, super fragile sounding. i haven't even looked at the lyrics yet for any of the songs. honestly pretty scared to, knowing how heavy they're going to be. i'm not sure what i'm getting at, really. this album feels important to me, more important than any other AC release in the recent past, and i'm looking forward to spending more time with it.

I love it! I need to listen more, and im very excited to do that! I'll just poop out some of my 1st impression thoughts here. Absolutely gorgeous and emotional, dudes and golden gals! Reminds me of some earlier AC, but u know, it's totally its own thing. I feel like basically every aspect of each song is really fully realized. I love the production, and I think that deak might have the most melodic, airiest voice of all our beautiful boyz! This proves what a great songwriter he is. Very spiritual-feeling to me. Love how it goes all over in terms of energy, like very very calm in parts, to almost overwhelming and fast as hell in others! I could've easily listened to something twice as long, I would LOVE it if he released something longer. DEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKK!!!! Well, that's about enough gushing for now haha. Love u animulllz!!!

P.S. I feel like maybe good house is a reference to banshee beat? i remember josh said somewhere that that song had a really profound emotional effect on him.

The length and structure of the tracklist is one of this album's greatest strengths. Perfect amount of time for listening to the whole thing before bed or after waking up

Wow, I just went back through this whole subforum here and it seems like there's so much love! Deak, ur the best! I love what you said about communication! The internet is so crazy! Things get garbled, and tone is lost completely. Sometimes I'm just joking around, but there's no way to convey that. I've never said anything here in the forum that is mean-spirited, but i have exaggerated my true feelings for comedic effect, and sometimes that can confuse others. What i'm trying to say is that when I said i wanted to kiss you and your bandmates that one time, I was just screwing around! I swear! I'd be happy with a hug! :D

My god that is some heavy shit. I'm in awe. These songs just get better and better, the whole album stands alongside the very best ac releases pretty easily. The fact that it's so short almost seems cruel, but it's also just works so well. It says everything it needs to say and suddenly vanishes, like a vivid good dream.

i've been thinking about this part a lot too. reminds me of that one show.

want it all to be good.

i know people say these things shouldn't be compared, but this release has such depth and real emotion that are missing from PW and this is the kind of music i hoped AC would still be doing. i really hope they'll go next to more this direction and maybe get sonic boom to produce the next ac album...

and yeah, there's no plans for vinyl, but maybe time to start those plans, deak. this is so good it deserves to be on vinyl. another kickstarter maybe?

lol Good House just sounds like we all going to Deakin's house and getting high as fuck after a stressful time

this album's really nice. Golden Chords is great, he sounds so much like George Harrison on it (especially like the song "Long, Long, Long" but the song itself isn't like that song, more like Here Comes the Sun or something). Good House could almost be a George song too.

with how much ambient stuff and candid-sounding dialogue is on here it does seem a bit like ODDSAC. Also with the broad range of sounds and styles.

My first listen was almost like hearing a time capsule but not even just back six years... further to Here Comes the Indian and Campfire Songs and Strawberry Jam and other early AC music, and further again to some kind of magical '60s psych folk time

Footy is really disorienting to me, once the vocals drop out the instrumental is so dense and noisy I can barely remember the melody by the time it's over. Definitely the most challenging track of the album. I'm loving every other track so with time I'll get a handle on Footy

seriously, it takes 'wall of sound' to the next level
it's like the angriest most fucked up parts of HCTI but scarier

I wonder if deakin expected people to like it THIS MUCH

it's crazy that this has 3.99 on rateyourmusic so far (not that crazy maybe) is there any reviews out yet? yes, I do care about reviews and I really hope that this album get the love that it deserves.

if deakin get some time off he should do a AMA here. i'm really curious how he is reacting to all the praise and love for this

my favorite song for now is just am. it really clicked the first time I listened to it and it got even better when I read along the the lyrics. tbh I never liked wide eyed and I never listened to the bootlegs so this album was a HUGE SURPRISE for me

Wide Eyed, for me, suffered a bit from being adapted to CHz. The acoustic version is brilliant, like a different song, albeit one more like the original live version.

yes. Wide Eyed has a great melody and is one of the better CHZ tracks for me but the acoustic version does alot more justice to the melodies.

I really hope Josh realizes how good this album is, and how many love it brings to us. or at least me.

The part with the piano in Just Am reminded me a little of Futile Devices, probably because it's similarly haunting but wonderful.

Country Report and that beautiful acoustic Deakin song from TTG that isnt the Good House excerpt make a great 2 track epilogue to this... is there a name for that TTG song? its fucking gorgeous and the highlight of TTG for me.

For me, the biggest thing I hear from Golden Chords, as well as Deakin's songwriting in general, is good ol' Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. Particularly his albums Under the Skin & Gift of Screws.
