I'm hopping on a 22 hour flight later today, would any kind soul help me in finding a way to get a MP3 of this before it officially comes out on Friday. I've paid for it already. Nothing will be better than listening to this for the first time while flying in the clouds...
Didn't think I'd post about this, but yeah, like many others, I was blown away by Sleep Cycle. So impressed. I was fortunate enough to catch you and chat with you at your shows at the Empty Bottle in Chicago way back when. Loved your shows then, although in that small space and at that volume it all felt so amorphous... and now, here are some of those songs, so fully formed and tight and structured and clear. It's a real treat. Loved your contributions to Transverse Temporal Gyrus (especially Gugenheim Jam - hope that resurfaces like Good House, which was improved to the nth degree on this release), and Wide Eyed was a cool track. I admit I listened to Sleep Cycle without buying it at first out of curiosity, but, after posting this, I'm heading to your bandcamp to purchase the record. This is an album (EP?) I want to own. And I really hope we'll get to hear the rest of the songs you write or have written. Congratulations on completing this - you should feel proud and know that it is good. Gonna bust out the ol' Deakin t-shirt and wear it around tomorrow.
-Chris
PS - Thanks to Pete for his great production on Good House v2!
^oh shit, totally going to that!! hopefully that means there will be some other local non-festival dates
the total running time is like 33 or 34 minutes and down there was like 29 minutes if i remember correctly, so i'd def consider this release a full length album, it's just on the short side.
also this version of good house is vastly superior to the previous versions, but that being said i do miss the lyric 'let's call this dance my favorite day'

maybe you're thinking Young Prayer? That was about 28 minutes. Down There was just over half an hour, maybe 32 minutes.
I think people sometimes factor number of tracks into choosing whether to call their release an EP, but Campfire Songs was 5 tracks so yeah

Ohh nice! That looks like a cool festival. Seeing both a Deardoorian and Deakin set at the same place would be great
Im getting ahead of myself right now, since I'm still in full Deakin Fever mode like everyone else, but I'm curious if we can expect the untitled song, from that one 2014 DJ set, to pop up soon. I hear connections to Just Am when listening to it. It could come with the Keep shoes on a 7 inch with another Deakin jam on b side

I know it's kind off topic but both Fishmans - Long Season and Matmos - Ultimate Care II are only one song but are still albums. Never really understood the differentiation between EPs and LPs as I've seen EPs that are really long (like 20 tracks long).
Anyway back on topic. Oh man, this album gives me goosebumps and I can't stop listening to it. Golden Chords is by far my favourite track. It absolutely blew me away when I first listened to it. Josh, if you're still here, I cannot wait to see what else you're planning on doing in the future.
As for comparing Sleep Cycles to Painting With, I don't think I can pick which one I like more. I like both albums for different reasons. As people have been saying, these albums are in different worlds.
Also, is it just me or can I hear Avey at the end of Just Am?

Wish we had a heads up on that Keep bonus, would definitely drop some money on a new pair of shoes if they came with another tape or 7".
It's basically down to the artist whether to call a release an "album" or an "EP"
Yeah, that's pretty much it. I feel like Sleep Cycles is too good to be called an EP though. :'(
Also, anyone getting Sun Araw vibes from this album? Especially the beginning of Just Am and the whole of Seed Song (also the transition to Good House is just... something, I can't even describe).
This is so good. Really incredible stuff. Emotionally moving.
The lyrics of all these songs really hit me hard today.
Thank you Deakin, this is incredible!

you're at the beach and i'm in some strange bed
omg here I am laying in my bed and listening . fuck. I haven't felt this much for any new music since ODDSAC. this is really special and full of subtle love, and your voice...deak, the notes you choose and those melodies, they lift me, to very very good places.
FOOTY. TOP NOTCH AC-MATERIAL.
I hope this will inspire AC (with deakin) to make something as special again, like this release.
this sadly ( and happily) confirmed my feelings of disappointment towards PW (and chz). this is made with the same force of imagination and special feels magic creativity as everything AC-related before CHZ.
yes I know it's unnecessary to make the comparrison, but this feels so much more urgent, true and profound than PW.
Just heard "Just Am", and my balls are tingling and it's already an instant classic. CANNOT wait for the rest. Is there any way to pre-order now? I missed the whole kickstarter shebang.
i think they shouldn't be compared at all
this was something personal that had been worked on for several years (6 years?)
painting with was a concept sort of album (the same way chz was) that happened quickly
i remember hearing Good House and Just Am in 2011 and they were great they still are.. it's crazy people comparing them to Painting With that was just recently released. dang
i'm respecting both, love both. would love to have some sort of animal collective album that took it's time to grow into itself.
i know in some way that's the only way AC albums happen now is with some sort of concept and moving forward
hopefully something can be worked out where all the boys can do something personal and take their time
^ya i agree with what johny's saying. like i guess its fine to compare them and natural since theyre coming so close together but it seems a little unnecessary maybe... u dont have to prove how much you like this by throwing pw under the bus...theyre such entirely different albums. i would rather compare this to Down There and ODDSAC and Pullhair Rubeye sort of if I had to compare it to AC related stuff.
but god i love this thing... it does kinda make me want to hear ac in a more like emotional and personal place... not that PW isn't emotional and personal but something abt the way these songs have sizable intros and outros and transitions is reeeeally nice and refershing. feel like AC have been perfecting this chiseled and super distinct psych pop sound since SJ on their studio albums and now use side-releases to get out their ambient/darker/more personal vibes... but ya this is kinda making me really excited for the next band thing that has all four members... but ya anyway, love this, love PW, love all AC things 4evr
so PW's 6:6 ratio of avey/panda is pretty sick but now the next studio LP ('18??) needs to be like 4:4:4 of panda/deakin/avey or go all in and do a White Album style double where they all pretty much get a side... omg the possibilities.
"DAD I CAN'T SEE, I LOST MY VOICE I NEED DIRECTION/I'VE WEIGHED EACH CHOICE SO MANY TIMES I'VE LOST REFLECTION"
My god that is some heavy shit. I'm in awe. These songs just get better and better, the whole album stands alongside the very best ac releases pretty easily. The fact that it's so short almost seems cruel, but it's also just works so well. It says everything it needs to say and suddenly vanishes, like a vivid good dream.
just wanted to echo the categorically positive thoughts in here. this release is fucking incredible. it's been quite a while since an album has practically forced me to replay it over and over... thank you so much for this gift, deakin.
