Got mine in the mail today! Weirdly never got an email dispatch notification but oh well. Songs sound great! Gnip Gnop is ridiculously fun, a Hounds seems overly simple at the moment but I'm sure I'll hear more in it with further listens

Fuck. Gnip Gnop is pure Beach Boys. So good.

It absolutely is. Especially the opening vocals. Avey sounds very much like Mike Love on a Smile song. Maybe Cool Water. The melody is also very reminiscent of their early surf music, upbeat and borderline advertisement jingle(ish?).

Gnip Gnop is so good!! I love it has the feeling of slowly getting the hang of something. The chorus sounds like they get a nice rally goin and by the end of the song they are IN IT !...

^ Definitely! I've been having that feeling from Gnip Gnop but haven't ever articulated to myself the "getting better at playing the game" as you wrote. It really does become this sweet rally at the end, which is what the song strives for. And it's such a cool commentary on the(ir) creative process. Noah's said in a few interviews that this album/ep cycle is kind of like a fresh start/exciting new beginning for the band ("a hard reset" ala Hounds). I don't mean any hate on CHz, I've loved that lp since it release, but the songs have a feeling of arduousness and perspiration (which is also why it hits pretty hard), whereas Gnip Gnop (and the other PW songs) feels easy and ecstatic in their inception--the effortless swinging of the paddle in an infinite volley--like a fresh and endless stream of "magical creation."

ya gnip gnop is too good... near about my favorite of the era. love how it and hounds kind of have their own vibe in a way that i think sets them apart from pw songs slightly... i mean they could fit but they still seem kinda different. also love the artwork a lot, those robo-hounds are amazing..

Love the analysis of Gnip Gnop and the rally analogy. Excellent stuff.

This was noob tier shit when I first listened but now they're both sparkling. Hounds starts with noob tier verses and repetitive hocketing but it climbs the rungs quickly and ends up perched on a professional musician grade song platform.

lot of bitcrushing effects all over Gnip Gnop, I thought my vinyl was fucked up at first lol

also at the very end of GnipGnop right before the little outro bell sounds it sounds like avey keeps singing and it gets cut off

Just when I finally got Painting With off constant repeat, the boys deliver these gems. Hounds has me hooked more than Gnip Gnop as of now. I love the sinister intro and how is stands in contrast with that sweet loopy PB melody. It's playful hocketing, too- more sugary than some of the PW stuff (e.g., Summing). I wish it didn't end so abruptly, though. That MUD makes me just reach for the repeat button with the quickness. It brings me back to PBVSGR... Could be the flip side of Príncipe Real.
Love those child-like chants behind on Gnip Gnop. I wonder if it's something they generated or recorded? So catchy and zippy- and
Spoiler: show
they weren't detectable in the live shows so it was a pleasant surprise to hear on the recordings.

Bros/golden gals.... I LOVED all their PW songs live, but I am not a big fan of the album or these little suckers. Not bad at all, but not nearly what i'm used to from AC, in my opinionion. Sorry for the negativity, gots 2 be honest

really enjoy hounds more than gnip, but still good songs. hounds is real great use of avey's voice and it sounds like some demented lullaby.
