oh I feel so stupid. I LOVE crosswords now, and my guess is that in a few minutes i AM going to die when CTYS plays.

Principe Real was never one of my favs from his set but damn the studio version is a beast! Love the hidden congos!
Each new listen is better than the last. I'm slowly getting over the memory of the boots and accepting this as the definitive version of these songs. It feels so good. Damnit.... so good!

I think I'm the only one who's waiting until January for the many gasms via vinyl. Glad to see all the positive tots and vibes though!

Whoever said the album oughta finish after the Royal Prince is on qualuudes. Selfish Gene is the greatest song he's written since Bros man. Get a fucking grip and sort your entire life out before it's too late.

I somehow never heard (or at least remember) "Lonely Wanderer" from the boots, so it was an amazing surprise that it's possibly my favorite song on the record! Quite possibly his most purely beautiful creation since "I'm Not."
Loving the record. Best AC release since FBK (and possibly MPP).

I think CTYS is one of the songs that uses default loops? Could be wrong and i don't want to insult pete bear but the drums sound like they could be somewhere standard. i know they have the power to make any beat they want, i think there's something purposeful about using the defaults. it's like, the default beats that are there almost define our generations music more than the most cutting edge crazy beats, cuz they're what everyone can build on and like just think about what it means if something is a built-in loop. It's pretty defining of what we think music is on a basic level. N E Way, he's getting me to see potential in simplicity and simplicity in the most chaotic parts of this album. Trying to laugh it off but the peaks of the album really tear me up

first off... in that thread we were talking about making our own playlists out of the album and ep. when i mix them i might like to take out the transitional songs because im trying to fit in songs that arent on the album w a good flow. if it makes you feel better i include DJL now lol.
but it shouldnt matter how anyone listens to music. sometimes ill listen to the album full through (especially when the vinyl comes in), sometimes ill make short playlists for the bus rides, or ep and album mash ups. its what i want to do and no one should care, and i seriously doubt panda bear would give a shit if i listened to not as "the artist intended it to be heard". ive heard it how he intended it to be heard and sometimes there are parts i dont want to include. wouldnt it be ridiculous if i said no one should ever listen to these songs on their own because panda put them on an album and thats how he wants us to hear it.
i listen to the tabla and all of banshee beat because i feel they enhance the songs, and so far i dont see how SOTC enhances anything PERSONALLY... maybe it does for you. im a huge fan of animal collective/panda bears work, so sorry if this is "out of the ordinary" for a fan. listen however you want.

i really wanted to wait for the album to arrive in the mail, but reading this thread made this pretty much impossible so i caved in.
i just listened to it with headphones in my bed and only a red lava lamp on.
it's beautiful. i love how it turned out. i only shed one little tear because of the missing built-up in crosswords, but other than that i've got no gripes with this.
i like the production on the whole thing, but especially on BBCM, CTYS and Principe Real the production is fucking unreal. out of this world. when CTYS started i really felt that i was being transported to another world.
i knew i wouldn't be disappointed but panda and sonic really delivered. my hat's off to you!

it was in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUPifrMexqE only. so u missed nothing! and i agree on the Im Not vibes, very pure and such a juxtaposition of beauty and that low grim reaper-like monster note every once n a while

just liked to add i dont understand why it is often people's instinct to compete over who's a bigger fan. ive only really been into AC for a few years (because im still in my midteens) but why should that matter? i follow what they're working on, ive listened to almost everything they've put out, and i genuinely LOVE it. just because i dont listen to the 17 second long transitional track because i like flowing tropic, UTK, and lonely wanderer together (and it doesnt fit anywhere else properly imo) shouldnt make me any less of a true fan. just enjoy the music.

It actually makes me very sad listening to it, especially when he shifts the sample down. I'm not sure why. I guess the lyrics are about living up to your dad's expectations and I kind of realised I don't care about that, and I don't hold onto very much which people have said to me. I've figured most things out through trial and error.

I definitely don't skip the transitions. Just think they could be up to more.
My pre-album expectations were that Davy Jones Locker would be the build-up to Crosswords, maybe with that distorted robot voice really up-front.
With Shadow of the Colossus I was just really, really hoping for some sort of sample from the game. What a damn fine game that is.

For those of you who absolutely love this: This or person pitch?
I gotta go with Person Pitch for now but I need to give this time first. Had one of my nicest/most serene moments in my life with Person Pitch so its not really fair

why pin albums against each other? This one is soooo different.. I mean PP is a stoney young hot blooded tall glass of swoosh while PBvsGR is like a guided tour through a really fucked up modern/future city where people can't hide their emotions; each song being a little performance the everyday folk walking to work put on for you.
PP is creamy soup, GR is a coursed-out meal. Both delicious why does love have to turn hate!

Goddamn this is good, only listened to it thrice so far but it's grown on me each time.
Looking forward to the single/ep that contains og faces + jabbawaqy and hopefully that unreleased comp that noah had ready but domino decided to replace w/ mix ticks eventually gets into our collective grasp. (this is where i'm imagining new preakness + hopefully atiba w/out skateboard sfx and despersonalizacao will end up)
even though this seems ages away RSD is coming up in April and i'm sure he'll put out something then too

You're totally right about the other thread, that's a whole different situation because you're rearranging the whole album and EP so I apologize for that. I also definitely agree that fans should listen however they want and that the most important thing, ultimately, is to enjoy the music. And yeah, even if that means taking the transition tracks off of the album to enjoy it, that's totally understandable. Sorry if I got worked up—definitely didn't mean to single you out, and I pretty much did exactly that, so sorry about that.
My only gripe, I think, is that you said "i seriously doubt panda bear would give a shit if i listened to not as 'the artist intended it to be heard'". It reminds me of this quote by Panda Bear regarding the freebird of Strawberry Jam:
Code: Select all
"The only thing we’re really upset about with the freebird is that it’s only parts of it. I think there are six songs out there now. People aren’t even able to get the full experience of the album, which bums us all out quite a bit. So if you’re listening freebirders [speaking directly into the tape recorder], put up those other three songs, man, pronto.
That being said, I realize that I care about this way too much and I shouldn't let it bother me

And also I want to apologize for saying the behavior was uncharacteristic of AC fans, because you're right that I was basically trying to say I'm a "better" fan than you...which is totally ridiculous, to claim that my fanhood eclipses other people's fanhood. Each fan is just as significant as every other one. And I'll be the first to admit that I've only listened to AC since December of last year! So I definitely have nothing on the fans who've been around for years.

agreed but the panda quote seems more about giving the fans the ability to hear the thing in the way the artist wants them to first. If somebody doesn't like part of something, i doubt they have a problem with them discarding that thing and listening to the rest, if they have already had the chance to hear it the "correct" way. This is from somebody who likes the interludes btw.

It reminds me of this quote by Panda Bear regarding the freebird of Strawberry Jam:I know that the transition tracks make up less than a full minute of PBvsGR, so it's a much less significant chunk of the album when compared with three whole songs. But yes, I do believe that Panda Bear would prefer if people listened to the album in its totality, including those transitions. And for that reason, I think people should give the transitions more time, and listen to the album some more with them included. It's only been about 48 hours since the freebird, after all.Code: Select all

no worries, dont get me wrong i do 99% of the time listen albums as a cohesive piece of work instead of individual songs. i was just defending myself. but what i meant by "he doesnt care" is that if i rearrange it AFTER listening to the album a few times. ive heard his work and now im doing what i want with it, im sure he'd love that people were doing that actually...

i think i also miss when come 2 yr senses transitions into tropic of cancer and hes still singing "are you mad" real soft and that 'harp' starts in.
This was the best thing ever. Sounded like rebirth. Sickened it didn't make it to the album but always felt the chances were slim.

This is a very interesting way of putting it, and it definitely makes me realize that what you're doing is cool and makes sense. I'm glad we live in a world where both options (listening to the album as is, or changing/adding tracks) are possible, as both serve a purpose.

quick question: syro or panda bear meets the grim reaper?
kidding, but seriously PP is like one perfect piece of music but bros is my standout part... along with carrots and ponytail. Such a great album.

...i finally got to listen to the leakage at substantial volume in the car to and from work today...without slip-and-sliding down a long plastic sheet of hyperbole, i'll simply echo most folks positive comments about it...i'm truly diggin it with a big ol' silver spade over here...
...and i also have to hand it to sonique and pan-dizzle for taking this recent development so in stride...well played, gents...
...other than that, i just wanted to recommend that everybody cue-up "Acid Wash" for a quality, wavy car-ride and enjoy the vibrations that follow...it seems to cause me to pretend that i'm a beat wizard releasing those glorious waves of bass repeatedly from my fingers...so i've got that goin for me now...which is nice...
