i just want to say that this album truly goes in and i'm very thankful for Pete and Noah for making this the incredible run of material it is. it's a bummer that it freebirded so early but we still have so many cool things to look forward to! it's so exciting that this isn't even the end of it!

Saw this had freebirded just as I was going to bed last night. Woke up just before 6am and couldn't get back to sleep as this was all I could think about so downloaded and listened to it in bed in the dark with my headphones on. :D

I've only listened a little bit to the boots so whilst a lot of it sounded familiar it still seemed really fresh and I have to say I found it astonishing. Tropic of Cancer is just jaw droppingly good. The bugle/trumpet (?) bit at the beginning is a really nice touch.

Can't wait now to get the vinyl now and see him live next March. I loved Tomboy and to be honest I was more hyped about that because I had less going on in my life and more time to get involved with boots etc, but after a couple of listens I'm pretty sure this will end up topping it.

Hard to pick favourites at this point, such a strong set of songs. I'm not especially into Acid Wash but like Sequential Circuits it does the job. I wish I hadn't heard Mr. Noah yet, though. I might sub in Ms. Pacman.

my slightly manic first listen rantings: (not sure that anyone will care to read this!)

SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS:
oh man these deep spacey vox and that keyboard
holy fuck
panda melodies are just so fucking RICH!
melody bling up the wahzoo
that organ is so thick and welcoming
like a doona with teddy bears embroidered on it
oh man, the vox are going all freaky
what a beautiful , gentle opener
holy fuck this transition is feeling good
hug me everyone!!!

MR. NOAH:
fucking panda
why you gotta make me feel like i'm pillin
this works really well as track 2, big solid groove
perfectly used repetition
love the chirpy synth that comes in this verse

CROSSWORDS:
holy fuck that beat, that piano, that melody!
rad transition
so clear and bouncy!
this is the fucking holy fuck bizniz
i'm gonna get undressed and dance on the table top in this fucking library
oh man, live sound is great
not too busy
vox nice and clear
harmonies here are just lush and heart melting
this track reminds me of slow motion
simple hip hop beat and pianos and just a super rad panda melody
i need you guys here
i need to hug people
gimme hugs muthafuckers!!!
crosswords is fav so far that was incredible

BUTCHER BAKER CANDLESTICK MAKER:
holy fuck butcher is killin it already
these beats are all just miracles
simple and with heaps of momentum
love the key shifts happening here
moving all over the place
feels like cutlery sliding across a table that is being lifted by people on all sides

BOYS LATIN:
another great beat
reverb is awesome
oh man those vox!!!!
love it when panda makes his vox jump around like this
melody is tight!
oh man the vox just jumped up suddenly
i just did a little excitement wee
holy fuck
i am shaking in my heart box
this melody is just making me heart

COME TO YOUR SENSES:
oh man, grotty electronics!!!! reminds me of mr noah ep
a mechanic’s floor
gritty, greasy, grotty, sexy
this is just the way it should be guys
everything yes
how does panda make my love for everything increase?
summer is coming and panda is already here
this one reminds me of last night at the jetty melodically
longer melody than some others
it’s kinda stretched and pulled over the mechanical beat
love it
kissing me on the temporal lobe
i might cry
this melody is spaghetti weaving in and out of a sauce full of chili and thyme

TROPIC OF CANCER:
diggin the transition sounds
horns?!!!!!
in panda!!??
oh man harp of fuck this is so smooth and serene and lush and tone bone!!!
harp of fuck!
this is such a sweet lullaby
already reminding me of the girls cause it is so sweet and childlike and pure
perfect sequencing having a beat-less track now
oh man this melody now is brilliant
love the way it warps
like someone wiping greasy fingers on a window
love the way the vox effects don’t obscure his voice on this
HOLY FUCK THIS BIT!!!
the stereo vox
i will have this played at my funeral
well that was incredible
classic wordless ambient panda outro too

SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS:
i'm diggin the scratchy workshop floor interludes

LONELY WANDERER:
wow this piano is feels-ish as!
yeh this is so feels i wanna touch it with me digits
this is bees part two
this is like ladybugs landing on your hand in summer
watching them move through the grass
it’s like shards of sunlight through faded wooden fence posts
when you can see the dust particles
imma french kiss my wife to this song
love this loop at the end

PRINCIPLE REAL;
oh yeh! dat beat!
holy fuck the vocal effect is juicy!
this is all so fresh and fucking incredible
yeh this blowing my face off
this track reminds me of that workshop sound again
i can see a dude wiping sweat off his face and sculling cold juice outta the bottle
the shop is greasy and dirty and the weather is hot and humid
there are pictures of women up on the walls
but they're tasteful, he's a good dude
yeh for me it is humid and summery but with this underlying grease in a lot of the tracks

SELFISH GENE:
oh man this melody holy fuck!!! that little chorusy bit just gave me the fluttery
the ‘keep on’ bit holy fuck
love the way the percussion is creeping in
and that rising synth gives it nice progression
again here the synth gives it that cog like feel and the vocals over the top make it humid and bright without being too stuffy
this one has another great labyrinthine melody on first listen
when those high ‘keep back’ bits pop up they are so satisfying
harmonies are like jet streams in the sky, clouds with purpose, striking and brilliant and outstanding
this is just brilliant guys
rad, love the consistent aesthetic
this album is cohesive yet comfortably varied

ACID WASH:
oh man this melody!!!
is like one of panda's old time melodies
like it could be a folk song or have existed for hundreds of years
a fucking anthem or something
HOLLLLLYYYY FUCKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what just happened~!!111,mbvfskdnbksfmb;
oh man, my eyes actually just got watery
that just exploded
along with my face
the bass is so powerful
HUGS ERRYBODY!!!
this song just finished it like a fucking candle on a cake
fuck,
just
thank you
hold on a second doods
i gotta reflect.

i caved. acid wash is glorious. i remembered vaguely that SB said that the song was full-on person pitch vibes. it's so true! tingles down my spine when listening.

i have some obvious gripes with the album. but i think i'll let it stew in me a bit more.

edit: selfish gene is so beautiful. i missed the harder hitting high vocal melody during the "you'll trip up again" sending us off in a blissful synth loop, but i realised that that vocal melody was harmonised. i thought i would liked a bass line or a bass thump, but i think the restraint actually makes it more majestic. there's something awfully sad about the song. PB sounds like he's yearning.

i feel like for those of us who have grown fond of the boots are in for an initial disappointment. there's some mental adjustments that needs to be done upon first few listens. i can dig the notion that the album and live versions are different vibes though.

the whole album sounds like a stream of consciousness.

I'm impressed and this is awesome. Can't pick any single standout tracks because they are all so good. Crosswords and Butch Baker are so catchy. Tropic of Cancer and Lonely Wanderer are beautiful. And the last two tracks are stellar as well.

Best song I've heard in a long time, almost thing it's directed at me for moaning about AC's mixing evolution.

Acid Wash kinda reminds me of Comfy In Nautica. It's like a triumphant march for my ears.

I also love Tropic of Cancer how when he slows down his vocals and the harp sample slows down too. Heart wrenching.

This is literally the best album of 2015 and it isn't even 2015 yet! :D

Lets be real though p4k is gonna give this a 7.x. They don't care about promoting good music anymore. If pbear says hes transgender in an interview or somthing they will it's ok it otherwise it is doomed to burritoville just like almost every other good album from the past 4 years.

only thing I miss is the change of beat that kicked in on the boots in CTYS -> "Ever make that one againnnnnnnnn!" but it's still brilliant though

This is so bittersweet. I told myself I couldn't wait, but I didn't mean like this...

These songs are so fucking good. Lonely Wanderer and Acid Wash are some of the best AC-related songs I've ever heard.

I thought I was fine having followed the boots, but hearing those songs... it could have been like that for every track.

Well.

Album is immense. Tropic of Cancer couldn't have come out any better. Actually sounds almost exactly like that famous first live video. I'm glad the echoes made the cut.

Only disappointment so far is Come to your Senses and the interludes. CtyS the first boot I heard off this and the drop was so perfect. I always assumed Jabberwocky didn't make the album and Crosswords was shortened because PB didn't want too many 'drops' in this thing. So I was sure that CtyS' drop was gonna make it. Oh well. My second hope for that song was that it would segue into Tropic of Cancer just like it did at the Mohawk set. Long shot, but I guess the outro is sort of boring nonetheless.

The interludes are pointless. They could've done something interesting but they don't. Sorry.

Other than those minor gripes this thing is a beast. Exactly as rad as I expected, and possibly(?) the most accessible AC record after Merriweather.

Gonna crack open a few beers and keep this on loop.

my only gripe is that i wish come to your senses was a little bit more dynamic, the outro is sick tho.

percussion sounds so great, feels like every element and sound on this record has been pained ovr and carefully crafted and selected but still it all sounds organic/like it's on the edge of falling apart.

reminds me of mpp and tomboy and c hz, think they all share a lot of DNA/genes but of course all v distinct. the best thing abt centipede hz (the transitions) seem to be present on this, just the ebb and flow of the intros and outros is really pretty and/or sonically interesting/cool

acid wash feels very powerful...

out of curiosity, what are the tracks that have breen played live and haven't made it onto this or mr. noah?
