Oh really? I double checked a few times and they hadn't been streaming the bands that didn't have that icon. Sorry for the misinformation.

Oh damn really? Yeah I stopped watching after Sharon Van Etten's set 'cause I didn't have much interest in watchin Giorgio Moroder. P4k are usually pretty good about uploading at least a few songs from any sets they filmed, so I'll at least be able to watch some of it.

Very cool! I love your tone and I love it when interviewers ask them about song meanings!

Avey said he was pretty influenced by some jazz music from the early 60s while making the slasher house. Anyone heard him which specific acts he was influenced by?

But lately, I started getting more into the kind of spiritual, free jazz of the '70s. You find that there's collaborations between, like, Don Cherry and Terry Riley, who's another musician that I really admire and inspires me a lot. For a lot of that time period in jazz, it was really about players that enjoyed playing music that got together, formed a trio for maybe a few records, and then would play with other people and put out records with those people. I think that's kind of what Slasher Flicks is, in a way: this trio of these three musicians who happen to get together and make this record.

Ace job on the article, Mary. It's nice to read an AC interview written by someone who knows and cares about the music

I was wondering when P4k were gonna upload Slasher Flicks set. I love how during the jammy part Avey is practically Tony Iommi-style lead guitar solo-ing

It was crazy when they went into the jam section, Jeremy was killing it to and was the star of the show for me with all due respect to Avey and Angel. Jeremy Hyman just brought so much energy to every song and its a shame they didn't upload Catchy Was Contagious (the first song of the set), people were getting so riled up due to the energy of the band.

i know i'm likely in the minority here, but the first 2 and a half minutes of that video sound like a messy highschool band trying to get their shit together. it's how i felt a lot of the album sounded - overly messy, distorted, and unguided to a point where it just didn't sound good to me. admittedly, once the vocal effects clear up a bit and the melody in the music starts to take shape (and jeremy's drumming, holy fuck) it gets better, but the first part of it just makes me cringe watching.

Looks like another video for Slasher Flicks is most likely in the works. There's a casting call tonight in LA for a video directed by Abby on the AC subreddit and I saw Abby mentioned shooting with Dave tonight on instagram. Wonder which song?

I wouldn't go thaaaat far. I think my least favorite avey song would have to be monkey riches.

Although the lyrics "Some folks are sane and some folks are not so sane" is too cheesy for me, and the melody before that part is just... idk what it is.

I think Your Card is a pretty cool Avey song and a nice closer to SF. I mean, yea the lyrics are kind of lame and all, but Avey's lyrics have been lame anyways since CHZ so no surprise there.

Instrumentally, I like the spooky, Halloween vibes of Your Card, and all the melodies fit into place for me. If we want to start talking worst Avey song written, then dally on over to CHZ and pick your poison.

I agree with Frumpking that this live show is high school level shit but Slasher Flicks doesn't seem like festival sort of music anyways. And it doesn't help that the visual setup is basically kill in that video, which removes an integral portion of the live show.

That's what i thought, maybe in suburban Minnesota people just suck at playing guitars, synths, and drums.

seeing them live + these new p4k vids really makes you realize how much angel is doing the whole time. Bass/keys and backing vox, a lot of the time all at once. Sounds like they were about to play the outlaw next too, wish I could see that.

Yeah, definitely noticed in the Pitchfork vids that she has to be super coordinated to play her parts + sing. And check out that sweet two-finger tremolo technique in Your Card.

We haven't even heard anything from Avey's new solo album. Has he even confirmed he's working on one? Or did he decide to go with Slasher Flicks instead?

From when I talked to him it sounded like he had some tracks either solo or AC up his sleeve. He was very sly and coy about it. So we shall see.
