^ya may faves have kinda shifted since seeing them. was catchy, roses and daze e, and still is, but blind babe, duplex trip and outlaw seem a lot cooler now that i saw em live.
does anyone else think that some of the songs on this album are kind of funny? like in a good way somehow, like it still sounds awesome, but i sometimes feel like laughing at parts of catchy roses and daze e. and the chorus of catchy is like rlly... cute? but like in a good way.... idk, i have trouble describing my emotional responses to some of these songs...

Duplex Trip sounds like nothing I have ever heard in my life when it all comes together, great album. There is nobody making melodies like this out there.

they'll come around. I feel like this album is so.. poppy. and relate-able. just put them in your car, turn the bass up, and let the album play. FOOLPROOF.
but yeah ahhh I still can't stop listening. I'm rediscovering Your Card and the bass line in it... incredible. impossible not to dance or wiggle or whatnot. the whole album's so good I want them to extend their tour eeee

I like how Dave defines "psychedelic", i think it's a perfect way to describe the contradictory craziness that goes on in the genre, past and present. Glad to read that Dave is taking a break, he really needs it!!!! he should produce.

“I feel like so much about modern music is about production, you know what I mean? It ends up starting to feel very crowded and squashed, space-wise. There aren’t a lot of new records in pop music I listen to where you can actually hear a lot of space in the sound.”
I take this as a clear jab at Ben Allen.

Umm isnt this a bit contradictory to enter the slasher house? I personally found it to be a bit too dense.

Btw. I feel like the impending storm of panda bear and his grim reaper is making me totally lose interest in slasher flicks

^ya, but really all this record to me is pretty roomy... Though a lot of the components work together to be nicely disorienting, it seems to be one of the sparser AC related records to me-- though obviously not DT sparse. I feel like I'm usually aware of what each of the 3 players is doing (though sometimes Avey's guitar sound is extremely elusive/ethereal). this record is all abt the power of 3, which is infinitely roomier than the power of 4 (chz).

How has noone noticed how much Avey sounds like Ezra Koenig when he sings 'groove it ooooouuut'?

I wonder if Dave is still working on that solo album follow up to down there. Anyone asked him about it at any of the shows? Wonder what the odds are we'll see anything from it before new AC stuff

I asked him abt it and he said he wasn't sure abt it, and just seemed uncertain mostly... I asked abt the DT tour tracks he played and it sounded like he didn't think they'd be released... but then at a pbear show last weekish, apparently said it was a possibility. He told me he wasn't into sequencing type stuff much right now, which is what I pictured the next think would kind of be like..
this all seems a bit surprising since a while back there was that interview where he mentioned wanting to make a trilogy of albums but pbear told him to scale it down or something...but then in a recent interview he mentioned that he thought maybe he was spending too much time on music. So I think he's a little scatterbrained/burnt-out a bit and just needs to chill and recharge.. as much as I want something now

It must be annoying to just put out a great record and have all these fans be like " so when's the next one?!" Lol.

ya I know... I told how much I liked everything he's done and then couldnt think of what to say next, and genuinely did want to know. I felt like it was basically impossible to not sound like a dick... i started to go into reporter mode... nxt time I meet him I got it tho, gonna be so chilled out..

first bolded part: I wonder if he said he wasn't into sequencing stuff in reference to the post down there live tracks like lay down in a mist/slow words/ in photographs because those tracks seemed kind of sequence based in terms of performance. Bummed that he probably won't record them due to this but we can all dream.
2nd bolded part: source?, that seems really interesting considering panda said it.
either way i think you are right in saying "scatter brained" in the sense that he hasn't made any hard decisions about what to do.

Not sure where else to put this, but Patten sampled Oliver Twist in his re-edits collection. It sounds wicked.

WHAT?? WHAT THE FUCK?
I hate life right now. Song For Jerome was one of his better solo songs man. And he's trashing it?
Is he even going to do a solo album anymore?

All those songs were great. It's a real bummer. I'm sure he'll do another solo album. No idea when though. I think he said something about it in the ama.

i love the poppy chord progression he uses in this album. it really brings out all the individual sounds more. I'm actually partial to Blind Babe, it almost sounds like a punk song.

yes yes yes he rlly does need release slow words, jerome etc. i did a sad puppy routine when i asked him abt them a couple months ago, so i think that was the butterfly effect this release needs to kick into motion
ive been putting on sf after a while of not listening at all and it's awesome. i like little fang whole-heartedly now, where i used to be a little ambivalent. every song on this album seems to explore kind of a different genre almost... like this might be the only ac album that feels slightly white album-ish, in that every song sort of explores it's own style maybe...

I've been listening to this so much lately. Really becoming one of my favorite Avey records. Think I like it more than Down There right now. The Drums you guys. THE DRUMS
but it also got me back into CHz but I've been rocking an alternative track order
if you're curious

ya sf and chz go well together. hertz/flicks. now we just need reaper to round out this era.... it's looking so nice
feel like breaking it down for the helluvit
sj- pp- pullhair- watercurses
mpp- dt- tb- fbk (oddsac, ttg, keep (crack box..))
chz- sf- gr (honeycomb 7''/crimson..)

Imo down there isnt really like MPP soundwise... And gyrus and oddsac are more chz i would say
Unless youre just going for the chronologically aspect of it
i guess you do with the placement of crack box
but im still a newbie and might be wrong bout all of this...

ya i was just going chronologically, like as if there is a cycle, and every set of solo records corresponds to a band record just timing wise mostly. but ya ttg seems like chz era since it was a bit before honeycomb. and crack box is weird cuz it's 01-05 recordings and oddsac took like 5 years, so ya..
but dt is like the dark solo version of mpp in a way, they both are always packaged as swamp/aquatic albums..
and aveys songwriting on chz and slasher flicks seems pretty related. similar singing style, and some of the centipede-y song structures stick around on sf... and theres more of a focus on live playing/jamming than mpp/dt

Does anyone know if Slasher Flicks' Pitchfork set will be livestreamed tonight? I can't tell if Pitchfork is streaming all acts or only certain ones.

I'm watching the stream now and it looks like there's a little Antenna icon next to the acts they'll be broadcasting - unfortunately SF is antenna-less.
