There were a lot of mixed feelings about the drawn out Tomboy release and Noah himself has referenced the ordeal when answering questions about the release of PBMTG. This got me thinking about the two albums' release timelines so I assembled some dates.

Tomboy
9/11/2009 - two tracks played (Friendship Bracelet & Surfers Hymn at ATP)
1/15/2010 - whole set (HAU, Berlin, Germany)
4/12/2011 - album released

Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
7/30/2012 - tracks played on CHz radio, assuming Soft Serve and/or Principe Real make it on the album
6/22/2013 - whole set (ATP)
??? - album released!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if we get the album in september as some things have alluded to (Red Bull email, U.S. tour, etc..) it will still have been a longer wait than the last go around. It may even be the longest gap between live debuts and released studio versions within the entire band's catalog.

I know the wait will be more than worth it, but man am I ready for this thing to get released.

ya the only thing that's kinda too bad is that Panda had said he hoped to get the next album out faster than Tomboy. but maybe he meant just between finishing it and releasing? its pretty awesome the quantity of songs this time though, and i'm really not complaining. Noah's an artist so whatever it is it's the time it needs to take.

Even though we've had some of these songs for a while, the wait time feels much shorter to me than it did with Tomboy. I think Tomboy had such an unbelievable amount of hype since it was the first release after Person Pitch and Noah's first output after MPP, two monumental records I might add, that it felt like ages before we got that album. Additionally, the trickle of singles was quite tantalizing.

Friendship and surfers were also played at the long lost Miami 2008 show (as was the rest of the ATP set)...just to draw things out a bit more for the Tomboy wait

If this does come out in September/October, the time between the live debut of these songs and the album's release will still be shorter than the gaps between the live debuts and album releases of both the MPP and CHz songs

so I think it's kind of unlikely that this will be the longest wait in the band's entire catalog, and I wouldn't consider the instrumental demo of Principe Real to be equivalent to a live debut

It looks like the festival he is playing this saturday is going to have a stream: http://www.meltfestival.de/live.html

Not sure if he'll be broadcast though, the schedule currently only extends to tomorrow from what I can tell but probably a good thing to keep an eye on...

talked with danny perez last night during the panda bear concert here in portugal, really nice guy

he said the album is actually coming out in january 2015

but, in september panda is releasing some tracks from the last year concerts (i think he said 4 tracks) and they are creating a website to put the visuals

so i think this confirms both recent rumors...

Anne Elephant recorded the whole show and i have some videos too, im posting in the next days

thanks for passing that along man^

i guess january isn't that bad, like that ep will help and a single or 2 in november or dec would make it easier; is a bit tragic a full-length cant be within the year tho. feel like the world is rdy or is abt to be, before 2015 for sure tho... but i guess this seals up the deal for aoty 2015...

so sept ep? possibly including..

Popadam
Ms Pacman
Mr Noah
Faces in the Crowd (w/ Jabawaqy on the lp?)
This Side of Paradise

maybe cosplay... any combo of these would be a really rad ep...

For some reason I still feel convinced Mr Noah and Faces in the Crowd will make it on the album. An EP with Popadam, Ms Pacman, This Side of Paradise and Cosplay would still be really nice though.

I wonder if the album would then contain all material not on the EP or if there would be a third release somewhere down the line too...

EDIT: I do like the idea of an EP as an appetizer of sorts but it still bums me out that we're likely half a year away from the album still :(

I like the idea of this material being released in two pieces. The vibe of the first (ATP) tour is quite different from the last one and I like both of them a lot. If that fits in that EP/album distribution I'm happy.

It's going to be a long, dry summer though.

Agghhh, January feels so far away, but then again it's nice to know something (hopefully) concrete. Thanks for the info lucas.

Hmm, a January release with bootlegs dating back 1 1/2 years before the official release. The parallels are promising.

Lmao fucking called it with the early next year release. I hope that when he meant four tracks to be released that he was referring to an studio ep of the tracks that haven't been played on this tour.....a live release would be utterly pointless, considering that pretty much every panda show has been bootlegged anyways.

4 full shows (1 of them being an iPhone recording) since may of 2013 is no where near "every panda show." I doubt he means a live release if Pete has spent all this time mixing studio songs. Hopefully Red Bull still releases the Brooklyn show in August to tie us over with something really high quality. And if Pete can eventually come through with the ATP soundboard that would be extra awesome.

The silver lining in all of this is that we are definitely getting both an ep and a lp for this panda era.

Yeah, I over exaggerated a bit, but I don't need to hear any more live recordings. I'd much rather get the real deal at this point, as would most people on this board.

whattttt come on.... if it's true then we'll have a juicy ep in 1.5 months, and if the lp is in january, we'll have at least one single in november/december... this'll just spread out the fun a bit. I think an EP can get me thru the semester

Although it is a bummer that the album won't be coming soon, if there is an ep coming soon, then that's really cool. At least that should mean we get new Panda songs without too much of a wait, and we hopefully we know for sure that all (or most) of the songs from this era are getting a proper release!

I like the idea of an EP (or whatever the september release will be) before an album. As an appetizer. Somehow having it before an album makes it feel like less of an afterthought, or tracks that werent good enough to make the cut for the album.

What if most of the songs we've heard live are on the EP, and the album is full of new tracks?

im pretty sure the EP is studio tracks, what makes you think that they are live recordings? danny mentioned how sonic boom adds a "final punch" to the songs

here are the videos, he didnt have the encore since was a festival, only the new tracks, not even the preakness.. so if you are going to see him on a festival is better to be prepared for that

Robert Frost (Down Below)

Principe Real

Nadir (Take Care)

sadly they're only streaming the main stage and panda plays on another stage

edit: but i saw videos from previous melt festivals from other stages which were later broadcasted on german tv channels, so i'll keep my eyes open!

What's so exciting to me is that everything is in place to make sure this album is killer. Amazing production/samples, the songs themselves are great, Panda's voice is sounding better than ever. Lyrics from what I can pick out are quite thoughtful and moving, which is to be expected. And to top it all off, we've got Sonic Boom's magic touch on the faders.

I don't see any way this could not be album of the year...no matter what year it's released.
