I give fewer than 0 shits about his opinion of the record, but why do reviewers of all types feel the need to write such insanely flowery analogies that serve almost no purpose in the description of anything relating to the thing they're reviewing? What is this trend?!
It's just a descriptive way of writing that is apropos of speaking about music and other such arts. It isn't a particularly brilliant or insightful line but I'd rather those analogies than something bland and perfunctory.

Writers have to use flowery language because it's hard to accurately convey the experience of listening to music just through words. It's like dancing about architecture etc

I mean, I use "flowery analogies" when making music
everybody's got a different musical language

Was going to mention that too. You'd sound ridiculous just telling it like it happened

Joe Biden really loved "Golden Gal" so I'm thinking he'll do a pretty favorable review. Yeah probably at the very least a strong 7 to a strong 8, or maybe even light 9 from him

Guys, if you haven't listened to the 24 bit version.
WOW.
So many great, beautiful layers, so clear. This album was mixed pretty well - or at least it was mixed to be listened to at 24 bit/88.whatever kHz. Love it. Thanks Animal Collective and Domino!

yeah mannnnn. i like being a joby but wish i could change my username to it happened twice.
100% on same level as fireworks and banshee beat for me. which is nice cuz i have really specific times in my life that I associate with those songs that I'm like not at anymore, so whenever I listen to them now, I still love them, but they kinda try bringing me back to that spot. Glad to have such a beautiful piece of heartfelt throbby goodness to make some new feels to.

so this is sorta live discussion, but which of these songs do you think is most likely to start off a live set? I'm thinking On Delay

I think the most frustrating part about some reviews and even fan comments are the "what ever happened to the st/feel/sj magic?" People are concerned about feeling a certain magic or mystery to listen to an AC record, and I get that. I personally feel like CHz (which I liked, but right now like PW more) was more of a greatest hits type of sound, but for me PW does hit on a personal level. For me it's about embracing the maddness (the information overload, social media, etc.) while still finding that balance to be lost in thought. It's a positive, uplifting feel to me - more "magic" from them that I haven't felt since maybe oddsac or fbk. It kind of makes me said a lot of people aren't connecting to it.

Obviously analogies are a powerful tool in writing. But much like your sort-of-wrong use of apropos, this style of writing sounds like he was just sitting with a thesaurus and a "How to Sound Poetic" book and picking out base descriptive phrases so he could charge the blog for 500 words instead of 350. It just kind of grosses me out. I understand where you guys are coming from, totally, and I don't mean to poke fun - I just think it's poor writing.
It seems sort of like putting a hat on a boner and pointing at it.
There's my analogy.
Apologies for a un-AC related rant.

Allmusic gave it four stars (the same rating they gave virtually every album outside of MPP and CHZ (that was only three and a half)).

Some of these (especially On Delay) have so much going on that they could easily occupy like 8+ minutes and be a Feels/SJ-style jam, I think it's really cool that they were compacted into bite-size pieces. It's something totally new from the band
Also makes me wonder what it would be like to hear this album at 1/2 speed

Tried getting a listen in at lunchtime.
Jesus shit Christ how fuckin' big is a goddamn 16-bit wav album? I thought it'd be a cut above mp3, but over 300mb?!
Is this shit borderline lossless. Doesn't help work internet is slow slow slow
my excitement soured into pure bitterness and I don't care who gets hurt
