Ok, even though we already got the lyrics, here's what Avey said, in case anyone's curious. Like I said, he was probably talking about Emceegreg

I love the line on vertical, "my feet can't cross the parking lot, the parking lot is way too hot." It invokes a vivid childhood memory of trying to walk across black asphalt in the summer bare foot and burning my feet after a swimming party at my parents church in which there was also a water balloon fight.

Hey guys, more hot deetz from Avey-
Colin Stetson plays sax all through the "bridge" part of floridada, but that isn't actually him on lying in the grass. That's a sample that geodude had and noah and avez made him keep it on the song

ha, yeah, thanks demonclusters! he asked me where I shared it, and I gave him that link. I'm still kind of surprised there's no lyric sheet w/ this album but CHz had one. PW is definitely a big lyric album.

Correction (2/17/16 2:14 p.m.): This review previously described the album Painting With as "crammed with doodads, as though the band was worried either they or their audience might get bored". After multiple listens, the album in question is a "grower".

Yeah, I imagine Avey can't keep up with all that screaming if he wants to continue singing all these lush harmonies and such, it just isn't good on the voice at all.
But seriously, relistening to this album with the lyrics is great! I've listened to this album over ten times through, and I'm still discovering new things. I also just find myself singing the songs to myself throughout the day. It is such a joyful album, which is exactly what I needed. Centipede hz and its intensity and emotion fit what I was going through at the time, but that same intensity wouldn't have been as relatable. However, the lightness and freedom in this record does. It is so bright, and fun. Like I'm whizzing down a psychedelic slide through the clouds, down through jungles, where I swing on vines and branches, and discover watering holes. A lot of there other albums took me to different nonordinary states, out of my mind, in some other dimension somewhere. This album grounds me in my natural environments, and makes me feel okay for being here. I always desired to get out of the world, out of my mind, so this is refreshing.

After listening to Golden Gal with the lyrics, I think the ending section (Golden gal gave me my strength she said I’ll be here for you later boy now run along you have to fall... Etc) is addressing different women who have impacted Avey's life.. Like each time they sing Golden gal it's addressed to different women (Like that first one could maybe be his mother, while the others seem more like things you'd learn from a romance?) I don't know just an observation.

perfect
listened alongside the lyrics this morning. the vocals are so prominent here that i think its essential to have somewhat of an understanding of what theyre saying to appreciate the album

I don’t feel that way right now, so people should not expect much screaming on this tour from me. We do want it to be high energy though, and for people to move and shake and freak out if they’re so inclined. Hopefully the sounds will lead the way.

No “Brother Sport.” No “My Girls.” No “Fireworks.” There’s some songs (the ones just mentioned) that we’ve played so many times that they just don’t feel open to new possibilities anymore. I dont care about My Girl but a love brother sport but hey Also love the new album from the interview of tmt

I like in that London in Stereo interview that someone posted where Panda said that they wanted the album to feel like a pop-up book. That's like the perfect way to describe all the little modular bits that jump out at you throughout the album, especially the stuff in FloriDada and Spilling Guts

I haven't yet, and mine was shipped on the same day.
Listened to this about 4 times at work today, and Noah's vocal melodies in particular are really blowing me away. Hocus Pocus, Summing the Wretch, Recycling are all incredible.
Also, Burglars is just about the funniest song I can think of, in a good way.

I hate to bring up pitchfork again, but something occurred to me today. This is very obviously a conspiracy theory, and should not be considered as a legitimate theory.
Anyway: They decided at least as far back as around the time that the floridada single dropped that they were gonna pan "painting with", which explains why they never gave good or bad reviews to any of the singles as they released. Bad reviews to the singles would have made the album review less surprising. I think they were counting on the bad review to catch people off guard and drum up controversy and obviously send more people clicking onto the article and site. It's not surprising given how clickbait heavy journalism has become these days. It probably worked considering this thread back then. Anyway, I'm as much to blame because I am bringing it up again.
Anyway back to the album:
Golden Gal
This totally made sense to me. Parts of the lyrics are about his female friend being really inspired to be a strong lady by the Golden Gals, and part are about Avey feeling inspired by all the strong ladies in his life. It's such a great sentiment and such an awesome song, I love it.

Good gravy, I duck out from this site for a day or two and have to catch up on 20+ pages of a lot of nonsense (yes I did read it all, yes i found reading everyone's opinion interesting).
At first I was kind of lukewarm on PW, but I blame a lot of that on listening to a shitty freebird over the weekend first (couldn't handle the blue-balls anymore). Got my hand on the web flacs and while it did take me a few times listening through, I feel like this album is opening up more and more and now I'm totally on board loving it.
I definitely overplayed Floridada and LITG before hearing the rest, so the first half of the album was kind of lackluster for me the first few times, but I'm starting to appreciate Hocus Pocus and Vertical now. The Burglers made me
even the first time, and the second half of the album is what really shines for me still. Bagels > On Delay is definitely the one-two punch combo here, and STW and Golden Gal are also highlights. Still not totally vibing on Recycling somehow, though I see a lot of folks are so maybe it'll grow on me, and the Golden Girls sample is already getting a little annoying. But I really like what they've done here overall and I'm hella pumped to hear what the live show is gonna bring.
I gotta say that anyone that isn't digging it at first, just give it a few more listens and just enjoy it for what it is. I do kinda wish there were some jams that breathed a bit more, but I feel like the guys let us know that they were going for the opposite, so you know what to expect. Let these songs get into your ears and let each one show you what it can do.
I'mma go listen to this about 10 more times today cause I keep getting a different track stuck in my head.

From the jambase interview.
AT: We want to get to a point with our website where we’re putting out more shows for free and not having to rely on releasing shows as mastered records. It’s cool to release nice quality vinyl-type versions of live shows, but yeah, we’d like to have our own database where fans can add their shows to our recordings and it becomes a cohesive library.
Pretty neeeaaat
Also:
AT: I feel like the live record came out at a weird time in terms of it’s release but it’s actually something that we’ve been working on for a while. Live at 9:30 is about making our live experience more accessible with regards to the recordings. We’ve always supported our fans recording shows if they want. There’s a large community of fans that trade our shows and get into what’s out there. Releasing Live at 9:30 was sort of a way to tip our hats to that community and saying, “We’re cool with this.”
