theyve been doing so much new and crazy one-off stuff like coral orgy and the new orleans shows this week and the Amazon recording stuff, and theyre all on new solo stuff so there is just no way that i can be remotely miffed they are retreading territory with this tho it does seem slightly 'uncharacteristic' but it really does make me wonder if maybe its something panda pushed for specifically cuz he might sit out during the full band tour so he would be eager to make some nice tour cash. that sounds cynical but its not meant to be, its just wildly speculative. my only reason to think that is the shows in nola this weekend were so freakin amazing that it almost makes me think its the soft-open to a new album cycle and could lead to a tour for just avey/deak/geo, but like ya who knows lol. this is great to, i miiiiight drive to austin for this. maybe

Has anyone suggested Avey cornpilled half of his solo tour to rehearse for the NY show with Noah? Maybe this is consolation for people who missed those shows.

I thought most of you would be hyped as hell, I was after seeing it, and still am.
Uncharacteristic, yees, but probably they saw how people reacted to it and where psyched for more, like probably most of us too.
I WILL GO. OMG

Well there is always the possibility that they are doing it for money. Not solely but people gotta eat. They do the dj sets too which I’m sure are both creative exercises for them as well as an income stream. Making money as recording artists is difficult now more now than ever and people have kids and spouses and mortgages. It is in no way cynical for them to make money playing their music in anyway they want. They’ve spoken about how they realize they may not be the Festival headliners they once were and that they’d rather play clubs to get the full effect of their live shows than daytime sets at festivals. I’m basically cool with them doing whatever keeps them financially secure enough to keep writing and touring. Will be at the DC show stoked to see all of these amazing songs live.

This is exciting!! People change and I don’t think it’s an ominous sign that they’re suddenly looking backwards. For all we know the Sung Tongs tour could just be a way to recontextualize their sound after a good decade of “electronic music.” Maybe they’re moving back into an acoustic sound world. Either way, SUNG TONGS!!

well no one had a probleme about the pitchfork thing at the time. Everyone going was hyped and everyone else too because of the live stream. It's just that now that some non american are going to be able to see this live. No big deal

What’s wrong with you guys lol. They prob just had a good time hanging out and revisiting these songs and it unexpectedly felt good to them so they wanted to share it. Don’t see why that’s bad. I think Avey’s getting excited by acoustic songs again and is inspired and getting in touch again with the instrument.

I'd like to revisit DC and the day would match up but I really wish there was a closer show because I don't want to drive hundreds of miles just to see this and then hundreds of miles back home. Fuuuuuuck.

didn’t travel as far as a lot for the nyc show, about a three hour drive. didn’t they probably rehearse a lot for that show / put a lot into it? like as much as a full ac performance/tour? seems crazy that they wouldn’t carry that into a tour or at least a few more shows? and didn’t they (maybe i’m imagining things) originally write/perform that era with acoustic guitars because of the simplicity of touring in that manner? kind of seems very ac. and they’re hitting hard on the whole various permutations of the band type thing, recently—from motw to the incredible solo output to the recent nola show, and the etcetera i’m not mentioning. i agree it takes a little magic away from the nyc show, but i agree that that doesn’t matter that much. also, if you look at people wishing for other recent performances listed as one-offs to be recordings or continual performances, it seems a little weird to me for people to call it un-ac or find it otherwise disagreeable. it seems like everything animal collective does is very animal collective. not saying this to disagree with others, but to agree with some..and myself. really glad other people in other places will get to see it live. it was pretty magical. will be in dc, though, regardless.

The main gripe I can see with this tour announcement is that it won’t be nearly as surprising as the December show. The anticipation of how they were going to pull it off was a huge part of the excitement. On top of that, the p4k vid is probably the best live video documentation of an AC show, so imo I didn’t feel bummed with missing that event because the YouTube video is all I needed. Having said that, I still think it’s exciting that they announced more shows primarily because they did such a good job with the first one.
I do hope they add more songs though. Always You would be dope

in no way are the new dates gonna make the december show any less special. the memories are there and they are not going to change. just go back and read the thread from during/right after the performance.. that was a beautiful experience for all of us and to suggest that reproductions of the event are gonna detract from the hype/memories already made is just silly

They must be changing up the order too? Don’t see them doing the same set every night

yeah the video was great but I can't even compare the idea of seeing sung tongs live and watching the pitchfork stream.

I hope this is the case, but they’ve repeated setlists in the past during some of the CHz tours, so idk...

Has anyone said this? On the contrary, I think the December show is the gold standard. The additions of Covered in Frogs and Prospect Hummer were delightful as well as all the little added sound effects. AC in its prime. The hype for the that show was a deserved 10
But now that we all know what to expect having watched that p4k video, in some ways that makes the idea of a whole Sung Tongs tour with presumably no added surprises a lot less exciting. I still want to see it live in Chicago and I hope they add other songs and switch up the setlist, but for me, the hype for this tour is a 7
