Not sure how to feel about this. Not tryna be a party pooper just honestly not sure what to think. I'm sure I'll go to the Chicago show and I'm glad people who couldn't go to New York will get a chance to see it

This is basically my stance too, even having not seen the show live first time. But that's spot on, it's good that others now get a chance

I can't tell you how much they've fucked me with these dates. I'd have travelled basically anywhere in Europe for this but they have utterly fucked me on the dates. What a grand fuckin joke life is sometimes.

Sucks that the DC show is at Lincoln Theatre, tickets are super overpriced for that venue...after fees it’ll be like 80 bucks a ticket, no thanks... love the idea of them touring this though..

Honestly really surprised at the venue choices. So weird to see prestigious, seated theatREs on the list when the NY show was the wildest and rowdiest AnCo show I've seen. I'm glad lots of people will get to see this set but it seems like they're going for a very specific audience experience/presentation of these songs and I'm curious to hear them talk about it in interviews.

Chicago tickets are $35 so I assume it'll be similar most places.

What I wouldn't give to be able to bounce around to these tunes in a club!

ya go 'head get that money but i personally feel super indifferent to this (mostly cuz i dont live in these cities but still...). seems just slightly uncharacteristic for them but i mean shit sung tongs always deserves more love. after all the new stuff this weekend tho, i kinda wanna see a avey/deak/geo tour like 100 times more than this but ya do yo thing
maybe noah especially wants to do this to get some tour money cuz hes about to sit out an album cycle which after this weekend would be a okay with me (speculative af)

Thought people would be more happy about this.
My life improved a lot since I va been aware of this, so so so happy. I get that the people who saw them in NYC might be "upset" but hey I am going to see winters love live.
They must had a tone of fun doing to Nyc show and they know the fan would be happy so it's a win win

yeah, what's up. is winter getting to y'all? I get that this tour makes the december show less special but that's kind of a lame way to think, is it not?
I'll be going to the berlin concert and the insane thing is: deerhunter is playing on the day before the concert. two of my very favourite bands "back to back". I can't remember the last time I've been this hyped about the future.

Definitely going to see the DC show, but this is pretty uncharacteristic of them. Wonder what the motivation is

Ok some thoughts on this -
I won't lie when I saw this announcement I had a kneejerk reaction that I was a little upset just because if I'd known that this was coming I might not have spent the money to travel to NYC. And I have to admit that the show being one-off did make it feel extra special, like thinking it might be the only time they'll ever play Visiting Friends (my fav AC song) live post-Sung Tongs release for example
Anyway those are dumb thoughts and I really don't have any legitimate reason to feel upset. The fact that they're doing a tour doesn't take anything away from the NYC show, which was amazing regardless. It's awesome that more people will get to experience this show, I'm sure there's plenty of fans that would've killed to make it to NYC but weren't able to. Also I'm not sure how far in advance an AC tour is usually booked but it's totally possible that at the time of the NYC show they didn't even have a full tour planned, so I can't really blame them for that
I guess I just feel ambivalent because it seems a little unusual for them. Not their usual mode of always moving forward and pushing themselves into new territory. The cynical part of my brain starts wondering if there's some other reason they're doing this, like what if they're disbanding AC and this is like a farewell tour lol. To be clear I don't think that's happening anytime soon and there's zero evidence that should make us think that, it's just that this announcement was surprising enough that my brain went there for a second. Just another dumb kneejerk reaction
I think it's most likely that they just enjoyed playing these songs again and sharing them with the audience, and decided they would enjoy playing them some more. At this point they basically do whatever they want creatively speaking, so I can't see why they would do this if it's not something they'd enjoy. They've changed a lot over the years and maybe they're ok with being a little nostalgic for once, after all they're still simultaneously focused on creating brand new stuff like the New Orleans shows

I was saying this at the time but I didn't think it made any sense for them to re-learn and practice all of those songs only to play them once. I predicted they might tour it at festivals this summer (it seems like there's always some band playing an album in full) but the tour makes sense, too.
I wonder if p4k made them wait a certain number of months before they could announce a tour so that their show was "exclusive." (A lot of festivals make bands wait to announce tour dates in that city so it doesn't subtract from festival ticket sales.)

i agree with most of jetski's sentiments.
as someone who flew out for the NYC show, it does take a bit of that edge off, but i wouldn't trade that experience for anything, and i'm really stoked more people will get to experience this!
i am absolutely fascinated by this move. it is so not-AC, which makes me really wonder what all their motives are behind it. for instance, where do they feel they are creatively that would make them revisit this album? do they feel they need some time to revisit a past era before moving into the next? is this move purely for economic reasons? were they just having so much fun playing these songs again that they wanted to tour it around a bit? do they feel like they want to give something back to the long-time fans? could it simply be they feel these songs are needed/relevant for this era of time again -- that some of the freaky childlike spirit needs to be injected back into the world? or, as jetski alluded to, could panda kinda be on his way out and this is a kind of magical last union between him and avey?
this is such a rare year for AC, with all four members touring solo (eventually), the weird combinations of members playing as AC, and now this tour. i feel like they're allowing themselves the freedom to do things that they may not have thought of doing in the past, and i'm really happy for them.
always give these boys the benefit of the doubt! really happy for all those who will get to see this!!!

seriously, whats up with the negative reaction? they probably had a lot of fun playing the show and saw how much people loved it so decided to play it some more? simple as that... fuck off with any assumptions that they're only doing it for money. get over yourself if them playing for other people takes away from "your special experience" and be happy other people get to have that same experience.

^i agree with warhorse. i do not think that this spells disaster for ac and in my humble if ac was disbanding at any point (on wat some ppl have been saying for some rzn) it wouldve been after here comes the indian. they made it through the shit

Laraaji and Lonnie Holley as openers in the US is really sick. these will be special shows from the moment the opener steps on the stage

lol I shouldn't have even said anything about Animal Collective disbanding. Gonna reiterate that I don't think that's happening now or anytime soon, and I don't even know what that would mean. These guys have been friends forever and they're prob gonna be making music together in some form for the rest of their lives
I was just trying to stress that I was initially so surprised by this tour announcement that i briefly thought of the most outlandish explanation for it
They're probably just doing this because they enjoy playing the songs and think people will enjoy hearing them again
Communicating through the internet is hard

i feel ya jetski, i'm already like "what did i even say?!!!"
this is AC moving in the spirit! God calling them back to their leaf house, it's time to get showered in the vital childlike vastness of their sung tongs era. such an immense energy + freedom i feel in hearing them make this move. this is such a treat for all fans!
* i do have to say though, sometimes you gotta realize these are humans living complicated human lives/complex relationships. for me the thought of panda leaving comes from a practical "noah's kids are growing up/maybe he wants to be more present" thought,
