If anyone has time and knows how, I was hoping for a split of the tracks from part 1 https://youtu.be/bbgXv9y_lmg and part 2 https://youtu.be/bbgXv9y_lmg of the footage from night two (which I think sounds a little more refined).

Or, pm me some info on how to do this myself... :?

Spoke to Deak the other night. He said that they will most definitely end up releasing these songs in some form in the future but not as soon as we might have hoped. He said that the songs are still in their infancy and were written so fast that they still want to flesh them out.

That’s surprising. They all seemed pretty fully formed for the most part. I mean, geo’s opener even seemed like a solid mood setter. Don’t overthink it guys!

o shit they're gonna fuck em up, they are quite literally perfect and fully-formed.... don't let em in the studio for too long unless its for fresh studio-only shit like PW or Water Curses!

just got around to checking this out. it’s brilliant! I hope like hell that sbd emerges. They should just whack this out in the studio now and not overwork it! Amazing stuff!

I could see them releasing the footy on DVD in a deluxe package of the album like they did with CHz

just listened to this set for the first time--it really reminds me of feels. I hope they do more writing/altering of the songs, but sounds like a pretty solid foundation. I hope they keep the acoustic instrumentation those other artists lent to the stuff.

It's pretty much hypothesised/rumored to be true this the new album with all four em back on. Sounds like more writing this summer and there back out on the road . One of em said swamy vibes in an interview which matches New Orleans. With panda & aveys solo album lending lots of acoustics in the forefront this is going to be good. I'm curious about a few things:

I wonder if they will record before they tour or record after.

Wtf will Panda being doing? Drums? Guitar?

Hope they keep the celloist and saxophonist they truly open up a beautiful world for them.

Get excited

Agreed I've always thought this stuff sounded like another direction they could've gone after Feels. Raspberry Jam

I kinda have mixed feelings? Like I’m glad it’s being released, but I really don’t want to get burnt out on this stuff if it’s gonna come out on an album eventually.

I just worry having a mixed version of Defeat will make the new one less special when it comes out :(
But I have really wanted this released so idk

there's a bootleg of it on the subreddit

"deak and avey were rly cute and it was like a dream, if they didnt post saying it was improvised i would have thought it was a full composition, it was fantastic. before they started there was a screening of a spider bit my lady and whats on the road its shining. they had super high quality recordings of audio and video, so i expect it will be released eventually. as it was ending avey and deakin began to play (which we cohldnt even see with the screen infront of us) and they rolled the screen down it was pretty cool"

interesting that they only showed the most abstract songs of the set. but the new live stuff is so much different? Whats goin on? Is this just ganna be a full live movie they release and never play those songs like that again? so did panda just walk in at the first band practice and go, "nah not enough bells and autotune dudes" lol jk

^my assumption was that they chose spider bit my lady for that screening because it fit in better with the improv set they performed directly after. would have been a weird underwhelming disconnect to show like magicians from baltimore or peanut butter hearts and then be like 'alrighty, now here they are!' and then they're plinkin and pluckin an abstract set on those weird homemade instruments (not that that set wasn't cool)

lold. I bet we'll see a DVD and/or LP release of the night 2 recording this year. I think. And then prestor/defeat will also just be on the new studio LP as well, in pretty different forms. that's the best scenario, but I honestly think it's realistic. We may never get studio Magicians or Tri-Kid but I could fully live with that if they put the recording on wax, I mean the performance as it was was fantastic, and they probably aren't gonna re-create those performances from that local cellist and other musicians whose names I wish I could remember. Shit was fully-formed at the time of performance, and I think they'll honor that.

Tri-kid no but we are 100% getting Magicians studio. It sounded like a fully fleshed-out song

I mean tri-kid did as well to me honestly. The only ones that felt more jammy were 'spider bit my lady' and the one deal did right after it... and those 2 were the ones they showed at the airlift thing.

welp, now that the dust is settling a bit, this is 100% in the pantheon of best shows ever, next to lux fragils and bowery ballrooms n shit. the music here is just so beautiful. i felt this listening to sundown with cecil almost sounds like a residents-type passage, and it laid the seeds for the oddysey of an era we are in now.

what i think about every time i listen to this boot - other than how good it is - is how much has changed since some of these songs arrived, and in such a simultaneously lush yet primal form. When they debuted "Prester John," the dog who gave birth to my dog wasn't born yet, now I have my dog and that dog; I wasn't even married, now I have a two year old, panda bear was a year away from buoys, the pandemic was two years away, yada, yada, yada.

insane era. so glad its coming to a close, but also really, really astonished by the breadth it contains.

We were right. But still who could've known it could've turned out like this. Hahaha. Tell me it's different from listening to 2005 jam songs or 2007 Merriwether songs. These songs were fucking golden out the gate. I knew Magicians was lit when i was 20, and im 25 happy as can be listening. Happy to still be here listening with yall.
