I was blind stinking sober on night 2 when Defeat hit, and yet I felt this quasi-psychedelic connection to the venue space, the song lyrics, the emotional energy of Dave's body language – it felt like a plea for the atmosphere and place in time we were all sharing together to go on forever, to end "not now", and it was such a tremendously bittersweet moment that was perfectly capped with the final "defeat" which surrendered all of us to time passing by.

I wept. :')

yes man. there was such a sweet, kind of melancholic but like happy energy towards the end of night 2 when it was dawning on me that it was gonna be over and i wouldnt be able to just mosey on down to another AC set the next day... ugh such a good experience. im actually super okay with just this youtube recording so its crazy to think of getting a professional/sound board from night 2.

and agree that Magicians sounds a bit like a chz track, would fit in great with Todays Supernatural and Mercury at Petaluma/those first chz shows...

honestly been on a very slight high since these shows

Crazy that this trio produced Coral Orgy as well as this in like a year. Honestly could be my favorite iteration of the band

finally listening to this, feels like I've stumbled upon a lost show of unreleased material from 04/05. I honestly can't believe they returned to this sound but I'm so happy about it!

god this is some of their best material ever

been listening to it a ton lately, heavy rotation with all of the good SHIT GOOD SHIIIIT personal favs are sundown, magicians, peanut butter, and defeat

like everyone else has said the ending of defeat straight up annihilates me...... the weeping strings and gurgling synths backing avey's mournful yet hopeful yelping

sick, seems decent quality. glad both nights were fan-documented... gonna sink my teeth into it later and see how it compared to the second solid vid we got of Friday (btw thought u meant Saturdays like the new avey song and thought u were in wrong thread..)

^seems like AC could be an exception or potentially wouldnt have to be wait-listed like that if they paid for them for the production and everything, tho idk. maybe whatever plans may be in the works are not something that person was privvy to. would be kind of insane if there was no official recording of this released, and i just really doubt that will be the case. tho i guess there is a chance

that vid's solid, maybe slightly less quality audio-wise than the one vid of friday but not too bad. further back tho so feel like theres a fair amount of crowd noise in quieter places like mind-blowing opening verses of Prester John

Crazy that Defeat is fully the new Alvin Row. Like there hasnt really been a new Alvin Row since Alvin Row... but Defeat is massive, and the way Avey sings the verses after the big chorus-y part are ..."heartbreaking"... similar energy to how big and crushing Alvin is...

and Prester is still kind of this big beautiful ballad the likes of which we havent really had from them since Feels..., like def some side 2 of Feels type space, but the harmonies are one of kind

^ya some parts of it might actually be better than the friday recording actually

prester john actually reminds me of the 2nd half of Daily Routine live... the way its kinda spacey, with an organ-y synth and these huge, life-affirming chord changes that rattle whole venue

also, i didnt know prester john was a real person/myth until today https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prester_John

defeat is one of the best things they've ever done and im not saying that lightly. it is quintessential animal collective. the first/last movements and the middle one form a perfect dichotomy of their sound that encapsulates most of the different styles of their discography. very very special

also it's interesting that they call it a suite because i can definitely hear the classical music influences

So the fb msg says they do plan to release it in some form eventually? The email sounds like they don't have the resources to edit it. And if they're sitting on years of footage then they might end up sitting on this footage for years too, right? Seems kinda unclear to me whether or not they do plan to release this (not trying to blame them or anything like that, I understand it takes a lot of time and money to complete a video project like this)

Is there any way I can donate to them, but specifically to fund the editing of this video?

maybe they're outsourcing the editing? giving the band the raw footage/audio and having them edit it? hopefully that's the situation or something like it

The wording is very weird. Why bother recording years worth of footage if you can't afford to edit and distribute it? Surely they don't mean that. And yet, that's what they said. I don't particularly fancy funding this because I don't want to have to endure the fuckin Pearl Jam footage and then The Vines and then, I dunno, Seasick Steve or some shite before they get to the goodies. I'll just ignore all this and keep praying blindly.

yeah i will pay them a decent sum of money to move this concert to the top of their queue, no joke, get me a quote on a price, let's make this happen
