They were definitely recording the whole show Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised if they release a live DVD and give a bunch of the proceeds to the music box. They seemed to really want to benefit and bring some press to that venue. I was only there Saturday but have been listening to the Friday show on repeat... Any wavering in tempo or transition hiccups were non-existent Saturday from what I remember. Particularly the tempo on peanut butter hearts was on point. Also I can't place it but deakins melody on that track is straight out an 80's hit and it's been driving me nuts... Anyone have any idea?

I was thinking it was similar to another AC song with avey on vocals. Can't place it though, I'm probably making stuff up.

Magicians from Baltimore sounds like Crimson
There's a bassy sample in Downdowndowndown that reminds me a lot of TTG

As many have said and I just want to reword and repeat it because it makes me feel good just to SAY it: Defeat feels as grandiose and spectacular and soaring and cathartic and joyous and unique as the greatest music they ever made, their undisputed pure lifelong love music.
"The only thing you know..." with the tinkling piano. Fuck. I really thought I was past feeling like this about any music, not just AC, and I was prepared to accept it was just me, I'd just lived long enough to not have the drive to engage with anything this much besides my family and cats. I am knocked on my thirty-seven-year-old arse by this. When the hi-hat loop comes in and the strings build up that jagged ostinato, I'm jumping for joy. I feel seventeen.
EVERY TIME...
That is 'someone in my dictionary...' nearly fifteen years on and ten years after I felt they'd peaked. It's absolutely spectacular, it's all fuckin worth it.
The last section is beyond any shit I would dare to verbalise.

"once had an old way
cracks in all the cabinets
streets of old games
coming of age

act your age
your good dog
what was his name?
coming of age"
probably a lot of mistakes there but good lord. Agree 100% with Stanshant, this material is a miracle.

Defeat is literally the first thing I thought about when I woke up today. Wonder if he's been sitting on that one for a while knowing it was a full band track but realizing it wasn't right for pw era or something. Dude must just have huge classics just waiting to go cuz theres no way songs like that and pester john and most of this set came together in just the week they were rehearsing this.. whole set is basically that level tho.. like sundown and down down is such a good opener... this really is my favorite album now... interesting that you think night 2 was notably tighter bergeron. It was maybe a bit tighter in my head but when I listen to that second vid of Friday it sounds better than I remembered it in fri weirdly. I think magicians was even tighter maybe.

I don't nor how to post a link but I'll just paste it and hope for the best . Defeat is a new song and I believe it was the only song in the music box set that Avey bothered to write down . Here is the rough and final draft , the third part of the song wasn't written down .

Ok first off it's wrong to steal other people's shit (duh? How can you not know this)
But also you're taking someone's notebook that could obviously contain private info that they don't want others to see, and you're posting it on the internet
Not only that but you're doing this to an artist who presumably you are a fan of but for whom you obviously have zero regard for their privacy
We are blessed by the fact that artists like Avey actually interact with obsessed fans like us, that take a lot of trust and you're helping to totally destroy that trust by doing stuff like this. Besides the fact that it's just a shitty thing to do.
Hope you can stop and think about this for 2 seconds, try and consider the fact that maybe your actions are shitty and wrong. Because if you don't realize that then you're a piece of shit

I don't want to play mini moderator (filter) but can we not derail the thread too hard from the music? what this guy did has zero to do with the show they put on. On reddit there were a dozen threads berating this guy and I'm tired of seeing it. Not only that but this guy obviously gets off on negative attention.

Wow, what shitty thing to do. Modbros, can we get this Verix guy off the site? IP ban would be best for someone who stole from the band and is clearly proud of the theft.
Magicians and Defeat are 2 of my all-time favorite AC tracks. I think given that Geo played one of these songs on a November radio show indicates the boys have been shopping these cuts for a while. I'm fully anticipating a video release for the 2nd show which was much tighter in terms of the actual performance, and the camera guy said an official release was the plan. Even so I hope we hear studio versions of these tracks; they're too damn good to live on only at these 2 shows.
I'm hoping the next album will be a Geo/Avey/Deak feature.

I actually love the opening track, esp. the fact it's a Geo cut
Also upon repeated listening, it struck me how much part 2 of defeat is like a Sufjan song. That definitely is in part to the heavy bells, which a similar timbre was used on Carrie and Lowell live

hopefully there wasnt much in the journal besides what he wrote down in the week leading up to the shows just to prep for them.. and hopefully avey's zen about it and doesnt care but geez what a whack thing to do, and then to go and post about it on the internet like come on man what
but ya i loooove sun down -> down down. now we have sunset, sun down and down down lol. amazing glassy textures in the first 10 min... and tho its a bit reductive to attribute a song just to the guy who is singing the most on it, since we know Sun Down (with cecil) is Geo, I like how it kinda goes Geo song ---> Deakin song ---> avey song at the beginning tag-team style... and then that jammy af middle section from the Paper Forehead segue to Spider and It's Shining is kind of the same order since Paper kinda seems Geo-ish since he's the only one at his normal set up while Avey and Deak are playing the weird installation instruments during that part..
and then Peanut Butter is a great groove that sets up the trifecta of Prestor -> Tri Kid -> Defeat.... like this whole set is my favorite thing ever along with Panda's Sunset/Nod to the Folks. 10/10 ty ac <3

When it was mentioned it sounded familiar before my mind went to Hootie and the Blowfish - Only Wanna Be with You, which does imo have some sort of resemblance, besides being really dumb. This is really pretty close though.

Pure conjecture here: "DownDownDownDown" feels, to me, like it was written by Deak... something about the vocal melody...
Also getting Eyvind Kang vibes on this material... modal-like melodies...
