Good God.

I never thought they'd make music like this again. How strange it is getting exactly what you wanted for nearly a decade...

Listening to Defeat and I could melt.

Thanks for uploading this. It would have been cool if the board kick started a fund to buy legit recording equipment that we could ship round the country for fans to record.

But the real question is when is Animal Collective going to release the live archive they've mentioned before. Need some SBD recordings from the 2004/05 tours.

this stuff is way way too special to not be released in a very official capacity. feels like my favorite live full-band stuff since..... forever, maybe since the first leg of CHZ shows

i really cant tell but i think the saturday show may have been a little more on-point tho they were both amazing and virtually the same, but having seen both i hope the official release draws mostly or entirely from second night. i mean makes sense that it might be a little tighter then, but they obviously had it locked down for both sets, not trying to diss friday at all, but just saying like, saturday may have been even better (unreliable speculation (was on mediocre acid on friday))

oh ya its identical in that pic except that big part for patching is right next to his moog subsequent 37 at the music box shows and isnt in that pic at least (unless its just off camera)((whats that part with all the patch cables called anyway? kinda thought that was attached)). its good to have geo have his own keyboard tho. kinda cool that they all 3 had one and avey and deakin both had turns at the upright piano. and ya avey on live bass is sick as well.

greatness of these songs is still sinking in. Down and Peanut butter are some of my favorite Deakin tracks i've heard, and Magicians and Prester John are like way top tier avey stuff, as well as both the last songs/suite. also like how spacey the middle stretch is from Paper forehead to It's Shining is.

"prester john is breaking down down, his town is breaking down too" is too fucking good. and the grooves on peanut and try are sick

Holy shit I'm listening to Defeat for the first time... this is like a sequel to Alvin Row! I love all of these songs!! Having a official live thing would be cool but I kind of hope they make this the next studio release. It's cool to hear the dudes back in this mode.

After having actual track names splitting the songs was tough. I'm torn on Tri Kid and Deafeat... Could Tri kid actually be three songs as in Tri? Or is Defeat a 3 part epic?... Opinions?

tri kid could be a triangle wave synth....

i think defeat is the three-part suite, the instrumentation makes more sense. is the notebook any help? it says avey's on bass in tri kid and juno in defeat

Ok, suite. I didn't even connect that. The instrumentation definitely makes more sense that way

ya assuming tri-kid ends when deakin moves over to the piano, making Defeat (a Not Suite) a 15 min epic, and is indeed a ....suite. but ya you can also hear them singing "try try.... even if you [something something" in tri-kid....

Peanut Butter Hearts and Prester John both have these moments that evoke a feeling of familiarity when I listen to them. It’s almost like deja vu. I could listen to this boot on repeat for hours.

Paper forehead is hanting and huge
Spider bit my Lady shakes my soul
What's on the road, it's shinging reminded me of george harrison for some reason
I like Prester John's second half a lot, the start guitar bit is a bit weird
Defeat's title alone suggests a colossal masterwork. the first two parts I haven't listened too very closely yet, but the third is a knockout

yes.
Actually I -too- kinda lost the hope that they could ever make something like this, something so emotionally provoking again.

boah. so. fucking. ful. of joy. right. now in the way only AC can make me happy.

I totally know what you mean. It's something like they've never had before, especially with the counter melody on the strings. I can't even say how much I love Dave. He's so unassuming but so spectacularly expressive and brings feelings out of me that have been buried since I was a kid, and which I continue to bury every day, just through everyday living, having the edges smoothed off, having my passions improved by hatred and stupidity and infantilisation and fear (and some of which is mine). I feel like a better person when I listen to Animal Collective and it's why I will always come back here, and try to be less and less of a dickhead.

dang, agree so hard with you and what lacriomosa's been saying... definitely getting to me in a way i sometimes think music/bootlegs wont be able to again, tho last thing to do that was Sunset on ADWTH. but like, ya idk why these guys can do that to me, it makes me feel funny, i always think ill grow out of loving their stuff but then i just dont. i even brought some weird negative energy into the show on friday and had a slightly weird time (didnt bring a lawn chair or sit close enough, and didnt get to see venue before sun set so was very disoriented lol) but it motivated me even more to go the 2nd night when i initially wasnt sure, and i had a totally great, semi-life-affirming time and like let all my BS day-to-day defenses down and its maybe the best show ive been to right up there with the first PW tour show the night that album dropped and they played Alvin Row, Daily Routine, Bees and Loch Raven.

but ya, this stuff is so good. apparently someone on reddit said Geo said they didnt have plans to record it, but i mean if we get really good soundboards of this, then id be fine with that. mostly, i hope it points to what next full-band thing might sound like, as fun as PW hyper-kinetic rave-party aggro-pop was.

Deakin and Avey harmonizing on this sound unreal. Like, potentially better than Panda Avey. They compliment each other really well. Excited to hear summa that on the next record

I felt the same thing today. there's no other band that can do something so wonderful, it's insane really.
And the feeling is so primal, so essential, that the thought of a possible life with them never having existed(AC) is inconceivable, unimaginable.
Later I listened to Banshee Beat and I was literally jumping around in the room and had tears in my eyes. My father later said ;" I've never understood your obsession with this band but, Okay, this song is good."

and omg, avey, yes.
