Also i was at the show in lisbon, and the ending with the cosplay version without the marijuana was such a great way to end the show that is pretty hard to imagine the concerts and the album without that as a closer
yeah, the spoken samples going into the loud noise and crazy bright lights was an amazing end to the main set.
Can we all just take a step back and appreciate how insanely good Day By Day is? Like...fuck. It's really fucking good. Like reeeeeaaaaalllllly fucking good.
So is this gonna kinda be like PP part 2 in a way? With shorter songs (unless some of these are 1 song and not 2?) and more of a hip-hop feel than a idm one perhaps? Mostly just saying that cuz it lacks the guitar-centric-ness of TB, though then a lot of these songs have sounds that remind me of affected guitars (like Vacuum)... Guess it's a fusion of pp and tb maybe....
fuck i really want this release. wonder if after this set of shows (next week?) he'll head bak to Lisbon and start laying it down. Tho maybe he already has laid stuff down and SB is mixing it, and he just hasn't decided what to include on lp and what is gonna be b-sides or a separate release
someone needs to stay after a show and get him to confirm some info/deets..
yeah i agree with u on thepoint of it kind of being like a mashup of pp and tomboy
like vacuum is an extension of tomboy with the sounds and the arrangement kind of like tomboy, and the vocal melody and drumbeat going into this new sound
im more excited about this after listening to the nyc show! idk if anyone could ever make an album better than person pitch and i wouldn't expect anyone to (it is perfectly suited 2 my tastes or influenced my taste so much that it became so) BUTT these new songs seems like a synthesis of his more chill, floaty music and other more beat driven work, and i really love both, but they often remain independent elements. so basically this should be cool
Also I mentioned this in the toronto thread: my friend stuck around after the show to meet panda and he told me that panda told him about last nights set: "I'd say it was about 3/4 of the material we put together so far"
I think I've given up on the whole formulaic approach to any Animal Collective-related release - i.e. album Z is a mix of album X and album Y. I think a lot of the time you can draw parallels between releases, but by and large each album is its own unique thing.
I am so psyched for the Chicago show tonight. My favorite song right now is probably Can't Come Back. It's so gorgeous.

nice.. the visuals they're referencing might be some of the sickest ac visuals i've seen outside of ODDSAC...Sheherazade is never gonna be the same for me now.. So I guess Perez actually films stuff for the show beyond just sampling existing stuff? Cuz it'd be way too convenient if there was alrdy a Grim Reaper cradling a panda doll from something... here's a link if you don't know what this is
so does that kind of confirm that there will be a visual release with this? Can't see him going all out like that just for tour visuals, but I guess I wouldn't put it past him either.. so awesome either way
msorry but what is this song callled? I've tried so hard not to come to this point where I know all the songnames, and therefore the songs like i did with tomboy, but i can't resist any longer. it's so goooood.
Even if he couldn't get the sample cleared, it's such a common-type drumbeat that he could probably just duplicate it himself and then sample that. I just really hope we hear it again.
Great show at Thalia Hall in Chicago last night. Did anyone else notice that it seemed like at the beginning of Can't Come Back that he repeated the first line a few times? I was a little drunk but I'm pretty sure he repeated "It's all in the family..." 2 or 3 times.
Also, at the beginning of Dark Cloud, when he sang it with just his vocals and no "echo" vocals, I was worried that he had dropped them out a la Can't Come Back. Then they came in, and I was relieved, because the echos pretty much are that song

Of course, of course. I want to hope for the best, but maybe it made him loose interest. Even the second segment of the heart and soul drums sound drastically different than what we have heard. I just can't see the interest in playing the second half of a song for fun without having a reason for skipping the first.

I think he's been playing this one a little differently each time! at the 930 show he did a similar thing but it was at the end of the song, and also reversed - aka no singing, just the recorded echos. probably just experimenting. I like it.
Heh, yeah I was thrown off by him skipping the pre-recorded vocals at the start of Dark Cloud too, but it must've just been him messing around since he started singing before the beat even kicked in.
Also, I have to say that I was skeptical at first but after seeing him live, I can see why he might've cut some of the songs from last year's tour. Everything sounded much more collected and smooth in comparison to the almost chaotic/jagged beats he used on stuff like Wazzup and Til I Die. It's hard to explain but makes sense in my head i guess.
And I'm still feeling optimistic that we'll see the first part of Heart and Soul somewhere, even if it's not on the record. That vocal melody is way too strong to just discard. That one had single potential, I thought.

That part was awesome, I remember everyone at the show loving it when he did that.
i think that all the songs he did play on this tour were superior to marijuana makes my day - and I'm glad that he kept what I think if most definitely the best part of that song - the Apocalypse Now sample into the THX Drone
Triple Eye is great but I don't think I'm going to be bummed if its not on the album - theres enough good jams that he played live that I think are better than that one
'Not Too Bad' from the Barcelona show was probably my favorite - and sounded so good at all the shows
is anyone else really anxious to figure out what the actual lyrics are to "dark cloud"? i feel like i just cant put a finger on what the chorus is actually saying. having the chorus be 'dark cloud' seems a little silly to me but its the only kind of distinguishable words i can make out when listening to it. any ideas?
