Well I wasn't specifically talking about the radio or anything. I just meant that I feel like people are more prone nowadays to listen to something once and then move on to the next thing. I'm guilty of it at times as well. But mainly I feel critics are the worst at this. I can't even tell you how long the back-half of Feels took to click with me.

you're right I forgot that they kind of recorded it as a "live band playing in a room" type of thing. that definitely might have something to do with how claustrophobic things can get at times too, for sure.

Oh yeah that makes sense, I'm guilty of that occasionally but now I like to give things a few listens at least before disregarding it. I was more talking about what Fan said with the difficulty of finding good music and implying that there's more disposable music on the airwaves than previously which I disagree with.

Oh man, the freebirds really didn't do this album justice. So many tiny little frilly staticy nuances in these songs, it's so awesome. All these trills and dips and bends and twinkling melodies, especially on Blind Babe. So good! Definitely didn't notice these nearly as much on the freebird.

Also, does anyone else get a Wide Eyed vibe from Blind Babe towards the end? Like, more so the transition of "BE OKAY" from Wide Eyed?

listened to it a couple more times, and WOW this is starting to overtake Down There as my fave Avey album (still havent listened to Pullhair yet )

really digging how angel's vocals mix with dave's, too - at the end of blind babe and when she sings harmony stuff on little fang and modern days e, especially (there's probably some others i'm forgetting). like, their voices sound just similar enough to almost meld into a single timbre sometimes. i don't wanna say it's better than the noah/dave harmonies in tongs, but it's definitely pretty refreshing to hear dave's voice in a different context.

Also, I notice a pattern emerging in reviews for the record. Critics wanna write about 'Little Fang' and how its a departure track and all that. And its too bad that no critic will write without mentioning Animal Collective. I know its related, but shouldn't Slasher Flicks be its own thing?

They didn't play it on the 2011 tour that debuted the CHz tracks. There were a ton of people (at least in NY) that year that were pissed that they didn't play it. I'm assuming they caught on in 2009 and the 2011 shows were their first AC live experience.

I get why pitchfork would compare slasher house to pure guava, since it's pretty fun and a lot of the songs feel like they come out of left-field. although an ariel pink comparison would be more apt.

the millipede hz jab is kinda stupid, and I like the album, but dude has a point

a bunch of the songs, especially those two do end up relying on a short phrase being yelled over and over again...
like the outlaw starts so amazingly, it sounds perfectly goofy yet spooky in that scooby doo way, yet when that screamed chorus comes in it becomes grating. when the songs do that, it relaly doesn't achieve the function of being energetic or exciting to me... it just makes me wish they'd go back to the brilliant moments of goofy/spooky fun that pop up here and there

I agree with most people's assertion that this album is a grower, just like most records are, but for me all that means is that it's gone from a "wow, I really didn't dig that" to an unenthusiastic "it's fine, I guess."

Down There on the other hand was almost an instant classic for me, and I'll probably never totally get why it received such a lukewarm reception. I just wish I felt the same way about ETSH. The arrangements are definitely way too cluttered, as has been repeated ad infitum, and on top of that I just didn't find the songs themselves to be that great. Different strokes, I guess.

That said i'm super pumped for Panda's new album, as well as whatever AC do in 2015. Tomboy and Centipede HZ were stellar but ultimately flawed albums, so it'll be cool if they come out with another LP that's a total homerun. Slasher Flicks just wasn't it for me.

Regardless of all that I really hope the bandmembers are all loving the music that they're playing. In the end that's all that really matters.

i personally think The Outlaw critique is fair, but that knocks the album down very little to me since its basically one moment on an amazing album, plus avey obviously likes to yell from time to time and i'm am behind him doing what he wants in that sense as well
