When was this not the case though? The difference now is that it's actually far easier to find good music and it seems like there's been no time when most of the music on the airwaves hasn't been disposable anyway so I don't really see how that equates to music being "killed" by over-saturation.
A Sender is incredibly AC-like. easily couldve been a one-off from the feels days imo.
I was listening to A Sender while doing something else but had to stop and come back to my computer to say,
Jeeze I can't believe how hard Avey kills these opening tracks every time.
PEACEBONE
Laughing Hieroglyphic

Is the lack of dynamics just a compression problem or could it also have something to do with the way in which the album was recorded?
Actually, I take that back. Too far, my conscience wouldn't let me sleep.

Well I wasn't specifically talking about the radio or anything. I just meant that I feel like people are more prone nowadays to listen to something once and then move on to the next thing. I'm guilty of it at times as well. But mainly I feel critics are the worst at this. I can't even tell you how long the back-half of Feels took to click with me.
also Duplex Trip has Down There written all over it
Also, does anyone else get a Wide Eyed vibe from Blind Babe towards the end? Like, more so the transition of "BE OKAY" from Wide Eyed?
i got the 2xLP and theres two of the second disc inside of it... and none of the first
dammit

(meaning that the band’s newer fans no longer had to dial up YouTube clips from 2007 to experience “My Girls” in a live setting)

huh??? when did this ever happen? they've played my girls in pretty much every tour since they premiered it right? as far as i've been aware
when would-be centerpiece tracks like “That It Won’t Grow” and “The Outlaw” start bashing their half-baked choruses into submission with all the subtlety of an oversized cartoon mallet, the album threatens to just turn into Millipede Hz.

i know this might sound elitist, but sometimes i wonder if people really get what Avey Tare is about.
Also, I notice a pattern emerging in reviews for the record. Critics wanna write about 'Little Fang' and how its a departure track and all that. And its too bad that no critic will write without mentioning Animal Collective. I know its related, but shouldn't Slasher Flicks be its own thing?
The main problem I have is that this also had this psyched-out garage rock feel when I saw them live and that feels kind of lost on the album despite the recording process.
please dont start posting that crap again.

Well it'd help if they didn't sound like Animal Collective

They didn't play it on the 2011 tour that debuted the CHz tracks. There were a ton of people (at least in NY) that year that were pissed that they didn't play it. I'm assuming they caught on in 2009 and the 2011 shows were their first AC live experience.

“Strange Outlaws” might just be the catchiest song Portner has been responsible for since “My Girls”
If Slasher House sounded anything like Pure Guava it would be my AOTY
