Anyway,I bootlegged the "Noah and the Animals" set, I'll probably try and take a listen tonight and upload it later.

I talked to one of the security guards at the end and he claimed the reason the set was so short was 1. avey was sick 2. some of the equipment wasn't transported to toronto on time because of the flooding. Amazing to see them regardless but I was so disappointed to hear half of what an average setlist would be.

well, that was my first AC show.

the negatives first: too short, bad sound from where I was, no Avey songs (or even backup vocals).

the positives now: the songs that were played were awesome. I love Panda's stuff so much. Really happy that they did "Comfy in Nautica" - was not expecting that at all. "I Think I Can" is top 10 AC for me, easily. Same with "New Town Burnout". The light show was mesmerizing - really nicely mood-setting. The segues from one song to the next was very cool.

funny part: Panda's yelp leading into New Town Burnout that startled everyone.

overall: bittersweet, mixed feelings leaving the show. It really felt like only half a show ('cause it pretty much was), but I was glad to hear what I did. i'm kind of bewildered that after all that waiting, it's over and it wasn't at all what i was expecting. I really hope they come to Toronto again soon when Avey is well. I almost feel like I still haven't seen Animal Collective yet.

I really hope a boot from this show surfaces. I know a lot of you must be bummed, but this was probably a really special show.

honestly, i thought they rocked it given the circumstances. i've seen them a handful of times before so i know the band is capable of a lot when everything goes smoothly. the intros/outros/transitions were mad centipedey which was pretty cool. but comfy in nautica, holy fuck. i've seen them perform that a couple times but last night's was probably the best i've experienced. and new town burnout was absolutely gorgeous, for reals. even without avey's vocal contribution to the my girls/brothersport closer, it was still incredible (and it was awesome everybody sang avey's parts and WOOed for like 6 straight minutes). also deak's got some moves, i was getting ready for him to take a stage dive at the end there.

my only complaint would be the lack of an encore. they really had us going after brosportin' though when i think about it now, there probably wasn't much else they could've had ready without avey vocals and i'm sure he was very much ready to get off stage. i'm glad he stuck it out for as long as he did.

Sorry you guys had such a weird night, what with the flooding and no Avey songs and everything, but I'm pretty stoked to hear that they played Comfy in Nautica again.

that actually sounds really good. ntb sounds better than i remember. i remember throughout the whole show the bass was really prominent and almost drowned everything else out. not really the case in that recording. by the way, i was near the front towards the right.

Holy crap, it's the most bass-heavy Comfy ever, it's devastating.

Thanks for recording and posting onebraineno!

I was right in front of Dave, and I made sure to use lo-cut so the bass wouldn't kill everything.
It's so weird hearing such a Panda heavy set.

It's just weird hearing all the parts of the songs in place except for his vocals. Kinda eerie really.

Oh boy was the crowd pissed when security started waving for no encore. Just insane boo's. I find it surprising nothing was said beforehand, or onstage (literally not a word) or afterward by the band (or mgmt or whoever runs the FB page) in regards to that show.

they should have played Chores and Derek. Maybe even #1. Anything from Tomboy would have made it legendary.

We told Panda post-show we were hoping for Derek when we noticed it was an all-pandy set - he called it a "deep cut". As if.

Well i'm guessing they didn't play any tomboy songs because the band have never played them before and they didn't have much time to practice for the show.

It is a little bit strange but I guess they'll just keep going on how they always do

I feel like without Avey's live presence there isn't a whole lot of energy or aggressiveness that Animal Collective is, with Avey, obviously. It's just missing that. Not as great as their usual performances, but I like how it's something different

They played a very similar set, I was in la la land too much to bother to jot it down in my head. I thought maybe because it just felt like 5 minutes, but it was actually short. It was almost cornpilled? Or postponed because there was supposedly that storm coming in from Toronto and they didn't want a repeat of a stage collapse. There was no stage set up, which I really wanted to see but I guess it's because it's a festival???

Avey is still walking.

No :( by similar set I mean they played most if not all those songs, just switched around or I'm actually blanking because I don't remember hearing Rosie Oh and I love the shit out of that song. But to answer your question, there were no Avey vocals.

This is not really related either, but when did the Portland show cornpill? I thought it was weird putting it right next to their east Canadian dates -- I just really don't know what the hell. They're really not doing so well with this tour are they...

Oh bummer, that got cornpilled too?!

Yeah, this year has just been a plague for their touring. It's such a shame, because the shows that actually have gone off without a hitch have been great.

Hey AC fans,

Due to illness, we will unfortunately not be able to perform our upcoming July tour dates, including the Camp Bisco and Forecastle festivals. We deeply apologize and tried our best to make it work with an alternate set, but ultimately we didn't feel like we were giving fans what they deserved from an Animal Collective show. We are working on rescheduling the non-festival dates as soon as possible. Again we send our sincerest apologies to fans anticipating these shows, especially considering the cancellations earlier this year.

Avey Tare, Deakin, Geoligist, and Panda Bear

for real.. wish nothing but the best for him. so i have williamsburg waterfront show cornpilled, first cleveland show cornpilled, first 9:30 club show cornpilled, and now second cleveland show cornpilled. haha. this has got to be an equal bummer for them.

the number of shows i was supposed to see that got cornpilled is slowly creeping up to the number of times i've actually seen them.
