i think the synth near the start of Catchy sounds very similar to Lucky 1? it sounds very familiar in any case. i have no real formal knowledge of music so...
i'd like to add blind babe to list of songs i think are cool from this record (also because i remember 'does she feel it?' from the show i saw)

is this album underwhelming to anyone in this forum?
Yup. I listened to it twice earlier this week, and the only thing that stuck with me was Little Fang.
Bummer.
At least Dave is having fun.

I finally voted today. "The Outlaw" is so good. It seems underappreciated. To me it seems different than anything they've done.

I don't think it's anywhere near, nor is my experience of the similar post-freebird time period which was just obsessive all-consuming euphoria with MPP. However, MPP did not (could not) grow, simply because I already loved those songs and flooded my life with them for eighteen months before it was released. I listened to it every day for weeks and weeks but it was a plateau which gradually faded from day one. Similar experience with Tomboy. Not listening to any boots for this one clearly made a difference to the way I approached it and I'm finding it very exciting.
I admit I'm comparing apples to oranges, so there's a bit of context for the comment.

Blind babe and little fang are the only ones I like a lot so far. A lot of this sounds like CHz to me. What happened to Dave's writing style? It seems like so many of his songs get bogged down with too many parts? But that's not really it is it, it's like the parts are being used differently. The movement is less dynamic and it feels like he's just filling the time up. Things don't ever slow down in his songs anymore... I love the beginning of Catchy but it gets sidetracked down these lesser melody alleyways. Is Dave not interested in pop n e moar?

Kinda agree with you about the too many parts bit and how they seem to just be there. I find some of his songwriting on here to be a bit less cohesive if that makes sense. Catchy isba good example.
But then when i think about it, some songs on here are the most poppiest I've ever heard from avey. Case in point: Modern days e, little fang, a sender

Especially little fang

Your Card is such a killer song. I love just about everything about this song: the melodies, the piper-esque jam in the middle, and the donald-trumpian ending to finish off the album.

I feel that if there ever was a video for that it wont grow, it should have a full on dance routine.

i was ready to be on board until the eye/mouth cutouts were superimposed and all that animation towards the end. it seems like it's trying to be too much when "having a puppet" is already a pretty big concept
e: i am glad they're making videos for the album though and i know it is fun/rewarding for avey to get to work with his sister! i always dump on ac's videos (abby's particularly) and i should try to be more posi.

The aesthetic of pretty much all AC videos never aligns with what I visualise/how I feel when listening to the song. Well, except for Oliver Twist.

I mean it was interesting but just didn't connect with the aesthetic I associated with Little Fang.

don't forget Who Could Win a Rabbit, arguably the best AC video ever.
