Modern Daze E feels so much like a generic indie rock song and I love it

I'm so thrilled by this album. It gets better and better, unlike MPP, Tomboy and CHz. I think partly that's not listening to the boots but it's also the subtlety and confidence. It sounds fresh, they've managed to capture a certain energy which recent releases have lacked, maybe due to previously overperforming songs beforehand.
It's pretty weird to be honest, I feel this strange kind of tickly tingle, like when I first got into them through SJ and Feels. I think it might be 'feeling alive'.

was an ep, though. and from like 2008/2009. think whatever she is working on now could reasonably be called her first solo album. but i think the main question was whether or not avey would produce her album.
Ah, I didn't realize it was an EP. And I was just giving people a heads up in case they wanted to check it out.

Angel's vocals in Blind Babe
Also, I'm honestly kinda surprised that more people haven't been talking about That It Won't Grow. I can understand not liking it, particularly with how jarring some of the changes from the boots are (making Avey's voice all mumbly in the quiet section and that little pause before they go back into the first section both threw me off so much on first listen). But now it's honestly my favorite song on here. I love everything about it. The intensity of Avey's vocal delivery, the contrast between the fiery sounding guitar and Angel's super clean and pretty synth lines, the simplicity of the melody, the fucking immaculate drumming, I could go on. The result just gives me chills every time. Maybe one of the most emotionally complex and beautiful songs that Avey's done since like Fireworks.

^that song might be the only casualty of my limited exposure to the boots. I went gaga for it last summer but it hasn't yet come bak around to me. I listened to the boots abt thrice but replayed Grow a lot cuz it kicked my ass so hard. I also remember duplex, babe and colores from the boot cuz they're so damn catchy and none of those seem even close to as good as Sender, Catchy, Card and Modern Daze
Not to say I think boots fuck up listening experiences, just that the novelty factor seems important to how u feel abt songs early on

Dude I was praising That It Won't Grow earlier in this thread! It's sooooo good! Gives me goosebumps. Total post-Feels vibes all over this record.

seriously that first melody in catchy needs to be repeated/longer, it's so good. gets me every time
Yeah that first verse melody is great but I really can't stand the rest of the song, im just not into the song writing/melodies in the rest of the song. The rest of the album is very solid, I love A Sender, Duplex, Little Fang, That, iI Won't Grow, The Outlaw, Strange Colored, and Your Card. MDE and Blind Babe are good but I'm not as into them. The chorus on The Outlaw is probably my favorite part of any song so far.

When anyone refers to Modern Days E as MDE I can't help but think of Million Dollar Extreme.

ever since someone pointed out the similar melody of modern daze to some other song i can only imagine it being played as a nickelodean theme song

"some other song"
hey now, that song has a name and it's, Hey Sandy. And it's fucking great. AND it makes me like Modern Days E so much more.

My girlfriend had a cool idea: what if for every album they did a different theme and name, like the next one would have the moniker of "Avey Tare's Creature Feature" it's probably not true but it's cool to think about

By the way, there's no actual Avey solo album on the horizon, right? (Just a bit confused by the thread title.)

There is! It's the true follow-up to Down There seemingly, an actual solo LP from what he's said. Will prbly have Slow Words/Jerome/Sometimes/Photographs/Death Raga (Eros). Back to the swamp...
Keep watching this space for updates!

Yeah he was thinking a triumvirate of LPs originally but Noah dissuaded him, nipping it in the bud preemptively, so just these 2 in the works (slasher and lp2)
I'm thinking this next one will be somewhere between the live-band/garage-y feel of Slasher House and the digital sometimes-sparseness of Down There, just kind of going off of memories of Slow Words from the boots.
Speaking of Slow Words, that track will have a lyrical brother in Sender, "Feelin' sorry about today, left those words where they should say/ But I decided that those words weren’t ok." vs. "Slow Words. They're fine. But they always take their time to hit the mark/ And they'll probably get there just fine but I gottta get there..."
Let's hope the words announcing a release date aren't too slow

Nothing confirmed but he did mention the possibility in the recent Pitchfork interview, with reference to the post-Down There material (Song For Jerome, Slow Words et al). I enjoyed much of that stuff more than the 'bitty' Down There so would be very excited to hear it. Slasher Flicks has really rejuvenated me and made me fall in love with Dave's songwriting all over again. I thought CHz was his weakest group of songs since Danse but he's clearly plugging a rich vein right now. I'm absolutely buzzing, melodies and energies racing through my mind. Maybe the band just isn't quite the creative touch point it once was for him...

Definitely agree CHz had some weak Dave writing, though I thought TS and Moonjock were up there with his best.

does the part where avey sings "catchy was contagious" remind anybody else of "Devil In Her Heart" by the beatles? I dunno, but I think of that song any time I hear Catchy..

it was more than likely deleted because the threads get flooded with "can i get a pm" posts, when you should pm a specific poster who has it instead...
if you see somebody talking about it, PM them directly
no worries, but now you know.

Which AV songs did you like? Did Father Time really move you?

All of them except for Pulleys
Didn't like Rosie Oh either.
tbh those are the only two songs on CHZ i could do without

oh man that's crazy clams, those are definitely two of my favorite from CHz. people are always like "CHz is their weakest" but people never agree on which songs are weak. it's the most divided as far as what people like of any record of theirs it seems like. its pretty interesting

Yeah chz keeps getting better for me. Mpp kinda did that pre-chz, surprising me cuz I kept reaching new levels of appreciation over time. whole thing is so sweet and heavy and energetic, and it totally massages my ears better than almost anything

That's weird, since I always thought it was unanimous that Father Time was one of the worst songs on the album. The instrumentation reminds me too much of Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine, and not in a happy, nostalgic way either. Just overall, not one of Avey's finest moments.
I think we can all agree that Honeycomb deserved a place on centipede hz, though.

On the topic of slasher flicks, I dunno if anybody noticed but according to iTunes, Roses is actually the longest track at 6:43. Ugh, I'm gonna be sad if it never pops up before the album comes out. This combined with the fact that it comes right after that amazing outro on The Outlaw gives me such high hopes for that song.

Yo avey used to yell "you're fire(d)" before fireworks/essplode medley back in the day
(see Hovefestivalen 2008 boot, not sure about others around the same time)
he's been waitin to use that line for six years wow
