We really need to get lyrics going. Might be the first time I'm really wanting a lyric sheet with a release. There's just this weird push/pull between the catchiness of the tunes and the indecipherable nature of a lot of the lyrics. like wtf is the strange colors chorus? In Modern Daze E, "people at the.... of distraction/destruction"? Or Your Card's "You can learn how to play the game.. but it'll still only lead to something something.." (best moment on album?) so many...

When the night said I'm ready yeah but the day said I'm not ready yet.
When the feet said I'm ready but the hand said I'm not ready yet.
When the friend says I'm ready yeah but the soul says I'm not ready yet.
When the legs say I'm ready yeah, but the heart says I'm not ready yet.

please correct my mistakes, this is my favorite moment on the album

first impression: i feel like a lot of the strengths of this album were it's weaknesses. I love the drum sound, they sound huge and he's an amazing performer, but with the exception of Little Fang and the first track (barely) they're like that across the whole album. I also feel like the hooks get buried underneath a ton of panned low-range mud. (side note: I feel like Feels is a somewhat similar format to this album setup wise, and the production on that album hit the bell curve right on the chaos/live feel)
It definitely makes me work to listen and there's some nice stuff under there but I also cant remember a lot of each song...Which makes me feel like the biggest point with this album is that like chz a lot of the songs go from one to another without much distinction, there's no reprieve, no slow song or stripped down song. every AC album had it's Loch Raven or Too Soon. I just dont remember any dynamics being there in the songs. I definitely want to check it out again, it's worth a lot of listens.

I understand your point but I disagree. This is the first record since Feels to deliver dynamics and unpredictability and a stripped human quality. There are no machines holding the tracks together which is the reason the dynamics exist. As for the lack of variation from track to track...it jumps from A Sender (steady beat) to Duplex Trip (swing dance) to Blind Babe (punk) to Little Fang (glam rock) and so on and so on. The second half of the record is a bit consistent with sound, but each song still has it's own identity. Took me three or four listens to truly appreciate what was going on. Give it more time.

also, as far as slow/stripped back songs, this album definitely has sections that provide that change of pace/space. lots of the tunes have chilled mid sections before kicking back in and melting your face.

I have been one to beg for a link for an album that I really wanted to hear on a public page. But the fact that I have pointed out numerous times that if you message me I will help you makes me sad for some.

And that the album is missing one of it's catchiest tracks, apparently, makes me even more excited :P I preordered the album the other day after I listened to it, haven't done that in a while. Usually pretty piratey about it. This album though, I really really like

For some reason I feel like some people refuse to get into the greatness of the album when I read the posts on here, and I don't understand you guys' behavior ... wtf

Anyone that hasn't accepted it give it another listen, it is Dave at his best as some points imo

nice write-up dude. 'Play the Game' is crazy for me too, never been to LA though, reminds me a bit of burial. And ya Feels is a good reference point for a lot of this, Catchy could nearly be on the People EP or something. The fact that this isn't AC exactly is weird, cuz it seems so representative of the band as a whole to me, parts remind me of spirit, feels, chz and down there as well. The guitar tone at different points will make me think of any given different period pre 2007

I dunno. I have only visited L.A. I got a pretty decent tour of a real good fun part of it though. Couldn't say I understand what you mean by the L.A. vibe other than I know something like that exists (even though I couldnt spot it out) and that when I think of a L.A. vibe, I think of Elliott Smith so I never seem to get it
