Is the grim reaper Sonic Boom? He at least killed Tomboy. He drenched that shit in too much reverb and added so many unnecessary sounds. The singles were perfect. I can't think of a single track he improved.

I think the mixing of Tomboy was rushed. There was a demand to get it out, and he was regrouping with AC in early 2011 so he probably threw it in his hands with minimal input.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recording is done. After all, he's evidently been at it since 2012. Maybe only 2 songs are mixed?

Everything described sounds really cool! The title is great. I liked what Sonic Boom did on some of the Tomboy tracks (Afterburner rips), and if it's more hectic, he might be the right choice, I trust in Noah anyway.

I'm definitely bummed that Noah didn't go with a different producer on this album, though that said I really don't think Sonic Boom ruined Tomboy either. If you listen to the single versions it's pretty obvious that most of the things people didn't like about Tomboy were already in place, including the suffocating vocal effects. Pete just made the mixes a little cleaner, and in that sense I think he helped a lot. Any production gripes people have ultimately fall on Panda, and all you can really do is trust his judgment at this point. That said I would be a little more psyched if Deakin or someone new altogether were brought into the mix.

i like the title. its weird and unique. and sort of campy there might be some correlation between slasher flicks and this. if it's not actually done recording and he's doing it through a big label like domino, who's going to have a lot of prepromotion and a complicated rollout in mind, i wouldn't expect this thing for another year at least.

Interesting title....I'm curious to see what kind of album art/production he decides to pair with it. It definitely sounds like a nod to dub album titles like "Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires" and "Rockers Meets King Tubbys In a Firehouse"...between that and the fact that he re-enlisted SB to produce it, I wonder if this will continue with the dub-influenced production that Tomboy kind of got started with?

Anywayyy, super excited that another PB album cycle is gearing up....the lead up to Tomboy was a lot of fun.

Definitely wish Panda had gone with a different producer - I prefer Panda's mixes over SB's any day. Though I agree that PB's choices were already in place, I'm 99% certain I read that SB had a hand in making some rather disappointing creative decisions (like burying the King Tubby sample in Scheherazade, adding that unnecessary coil instrument (can't remember the name of it) to Slow Motion, and slowing/drowning the momentum of Friendship Bracelet, etc, etc) which, IMO, were the main downfalls of the album. It's funny that people say SB cleared up PB's mixes - to me, Panda's are preferable because they sound much more clear and less sonically fatiguing...

Yeah, last time around it was Noah that recorded it himself with Pete mixing (as well as adding some extra touches), this time it's the two of them recording together and we don't even know who will be mixing it necessarily. I think it'll end up sounding quite different from Tomboy.

Great point Boo. Also ya'll should consider the fact that Sonic had no hand in the actual recording, he was just given some mixed down tracks and did his best. I think overall he improved the album. Really the only track I like more as the OG mix is Alsatian Darn which I think was perfect the first time and sonic turned down my favorite samples on it.

i haven't listened to that record, but your point is exactly what i was thinking. sonic boom has produced MANY records that sound nothing like Tomboy.

If Sonic Boom produces this next album these are some things (I believe) he should take into account:
- Turn up the bass in the songs
- Give the vocal effects a little space
- Don't turn the instrumental music down for the sake of the vocals being in front.
- Not too much cluttering of effects, in any case they should be background effects to accompany the music, but not the main ride of the song.
