it happens, though its increasingly strange, esp. w/r/t this because domino kept centipede hz so under wraps. it is a shame that it freebirded with a track missing, i feel like they said they (maybe) don't mind as long as the whole thing freebirds, like they were unhappy when odd tracks from MPP were released.

Ah fuck, and Roses on the Window was one of the songs I was looking forward to the most. Oh well, still gonna listen to this because I have no self control.

clicked through the album and it mostly sounds about right. what happened to duplex though? that one really disappointed me.

Lion and I downloaded it and are just going through the tracks we know from the recordings. The quality is terrible so we don't want our first listen to the new songs to be through this shitty freebird of what is most likely a rip of a stream of the album sent out to reviewers.
duplex is going to take a while getting used to, not sure if we're feeling this slowed down vibe
And the mumbling in won't grow was a weird choice...otherwise I really like what is going on with the older songs.

So glad I bought this album already. Definitely worth it from what I've heard. And I can't wait to see what the art will be like.

it seems cool so far. the show i saw was fun but my enthusiasm kinda dissipated since. feels v avey. sort of like a more 'to the point' AC record. i guess he is surrounded by two very talented musicians so it shouldn't be a surprise that i like it.

I'm only four songs in but this has made me really happy and put a smile on my face!

It feels like that old sense of space and winding slow-burn melody, like on Unsolved Mysteries or something but it's also quite different. I suppose it reminds me a bit of Today's Supernatural, too, but with less mania and more widescreen. Damn. This is superb. I'm excited to relisten to everything so far, can feel the claws of old starting to sink under my skin.

Edit: That It Won't Grow!

Fucking hell, lads.

wow it's really disappointing actually that it freebirded this early; I think I'll try to hold out at least until it's the complete album

track by track first impressions:
Spoiler: show
A Sender: AMAZING. Was looking forward to this one so much from that one youtube vid of them playing it live and they nailed it.
Duplex Trip: I really like what they did to this song, though I do kinda miss the momentum the live version had. Avey's vocals are beautiful here though. I like the lyrics a lot too.
Blind Babe: NAILED THIS ONE TOO. Was one of my favorites when I first saw them at the metro gallery, and this is pretty much all I wanted this song to be and more. Got chills as soon as it went into the first round of "DOES SHE FEEL IT"s. And Angel's backing vocals are so amazing/blissful.
Little Fang: obv we all know this one, but I will say that it does sound pretty different from a lot of the tracks on this album. Like this one was kinda intentionally mixed to be a single or something.
Catchy (was Contagious): I love the melodies a lot, but something about it doesn't seem right. Like the performance sounds kinda drowsy or something. Maybe that was the point? idk, gonna have to wait for this one to grow on me.
That it won't Grow: Hm, Avey's vocals feel like they should be mixed a bit louder in the first part. I like how he set up the contrast between the mumbly delivery and the passionate "WHEN THE NIGHT SAYS" part, but it's still gonna take a lot of getting used to. Also I LOVE how it just cuts off at the end.
The Outlaw: eh, pretty bummed that they got rid of the WOOs in the first part, but everything else sounds pretty tight I guess. It'll def have to grow on me.
Modern Days E: The only gripe I have with this song is that the tempo seems a lot slower than when they did it live, but other than that they nailed it. Amazing song.
Strange Colores: This one sounds the closest to the live version to me, other than maybe Blind Babe. Avey's voice is mixed just right, and the guitar sounds huge.
Your Card: Man, I'm pretty disappointed in the middle section. Doesn't sound nearly as intense as it could have been. Everything else sounds good I suppose, but still. Feels like it should have been like a minute or so longer.
Really hope Roses on the Window rears it's beautiful head soon.

Huh? That sounds very bizarre.

Did they at least keep those choir-like backing vocals?

I guess I should be thankful I didn't listen to the boots since some of you seem bummed out by Duplex Trip, the whole album sounds amazing to me.

Also, Little Fang is much better in the context of the album. Im gettin' into it now.
