This is so weird in a way that I can't articulate. It's only gotten better after 20+ listens and is kind of morphing continually. But it seems crazy how clear some thing are. Some of this is so dry and clean in a way that seems alien for Avey, and makes it more intense. Nearly murk-less, hm. Spirit-y, but HQ obvs.

Loooooooooooove it! It's a funny nugget of our era. Kinda daft punky, kinda mgmtish, it's that really tight four four with glistening instrumentation. Weird how simply by the context of the band and the subtle backdrop within the song the pretty melodies are like pink faces illuminated in a dark mirror-house

Those funny harmonies remind me of White Album (Wild Honey Pie/Bungalow Bill) and Smiley Smile. And all the instrumental counterpoint is sweet, subtle. And the tone is really interesting, like besides the ear-worm quality I think that's whats reminding people of Ariel, sort of light and silly but it still kinda sounds like its coming from real place.

definitely ariel vibes. super melodic, oddball pop that references the past but is texturally/sonically very now. really keen for the whole thing!

Yeah I was kinda getting Talking Heads/of Montreal/Tom Tom Club vibes from this track as well. The vocal effects are actually pretty tastefully done in my opinion. Sometimes his voice ends up sounding like rubbing on something very shiny and plastic, and other times it sounds like the searing temperature of the sun. I mean the hook, dat bass, Avey's vocals. I'm digging this so much.

Rob Carmichael and ATSF designed the artwork but Danny Perez drew the guy on the wood

Good observation. Unless things have been completely reworked before they began the recording process, I guess that this tidbit should temper some of those who are worried about whether or not the rest of the album will keep some of that particular sound from the boots.

Glasslands, IMO. Most would say that ATP sounds the clearest but that recording has always sounded a little hollow to me.

Really like how Jeremy Hyman's drumming is really understated on Little Fang, which is a nice change from all the crazy technical stuff he does on the other songs. Definitely looking forward to hearing some of his more insane drumming with this production tho.

Soooo the pre-order comes with MP3 downloads....? Is this the whole album?

also gonna try and go to the DC show. I have work that day but I may just skip it cause Slasher Flicks clearly takes the cake.

[edit] Silly me for thinking they'd slip up and release the entire album for a pre-order DL :(

At it's core, this is one of the most poppy tracks any of them have put out, if not the single most. More so than MPP even, agreed?

Not a bad thing at all because they definitely can pull it off!

yeah, that was like the first thing i noticed - its crazy how mellow the rhythm is compared to the boots (at least from the little i've heard)

when i first heard it I thought the overall vibe and groove of it reminded me of some of the simpler beats on Thriller- like Billie Jean or Baby Be Mine. Especially the thuddy kinda echoey toms. this is pretty great, even if sdsdgafgfg
