I don't know why but I've never liked Todays Supernatural at all.

Moonjock is my favorite AC jam right now, and has been since I first heard it. I've been a lurker since 2007, following the boards around like a sex addict looking for vag. My point is that I know this topic has been discussed to death, but I didn't really relate to anyone who was saying that CHz was 'confusing' or 'too much noise'. When I heard it, everything seemed so well thought out and perfectly placed. Granted there are a few tracks that I don't love (rosie oh, wide eyed, studio version of monkey) but it's up there with the best of AC releases. It fits perfectly in to the AC discography.

yea avey def recorded the vocals wrong for monkey riches but he got it right on the tours after the release of the album
before the album the bridge went:
WHY am i still lookin for a golden aggee
the studio one is like:
why am i still lookin for a golden AGEE
n the tours after is like
two of the studio version
then he bangs out two of the angsty pre studio melody versions
hell yea

yeah I remember being super bummed out about that vocal melody in particular when the album came out, loved the way he sings it live. Just seemed more emotional and intense.

When you take the lyrics to this album literally as a conversation between each band member...it's kind of weird.
Also the Deak is like a cyber punk Zordon god-like wizard sage and is all "bros...cool it!"
couldn't agree with this post more

The best part about moonjock is when Avey goes "and in the night tiiiiimme we'll sleep- WHAT" followed directly by that amazing buildup. That buildup is seriously always just completely stunning to me. It's a flawless aural representation of watching your surroundings zoom past you while accelerating on a highway or something.

seriously such a part - there's a riff in the live from T5 version that's more audible than on the album, and it makes that build so sweet

The live version of Amanita with the laid back guitar is so sick. I think you can hear it in the T5 video on youtube

n i think in the performances they encapsulate the raw momentum that both of those songs have. like the "rush" part in applesauce, when it goes into "so why should i rush?" the whole band just pushes forward. definitely something that wasnt captured on the record very well

chz is a concept album about the number 4. There is a countdown to 4 in Moonjock, with each member coming in in a sequence (drums, bass noise, guitar, crazy vox), making clear that it is aware of itself as the return album of Deakin, completing the sacred 4. Of course there are 4 sides like with every double lp but the song Applesauce reiterates the number 4, (and a mayor, kid, farmer, chef....the countdown at the end, lizard, eagle, sole(soul?) and noble). Some of the structures seem to reference the number 4, sometimes having 4 distinct parts (i'd argue for ts, ntb, mercury, monkey, amanita), which fits into the whole concept of centipede like structures, having more than 3 parts to a song is a very distinct effect (most trad. pop songs have verse/chorus/bridge structures obvs, 3). The 4ness of the album, and the reuniting of the band is the reason the album sounds the way it does, intentionally. 4 is a weird number because its like a tipping point. 4...

I like to imagine it's a concept album about the band being sent to space (success) and Avey's like "bros, imagination won't get moldy..." and P-Bear is all "when I make it...back home...". Deaks is still wide eyed and Geo is hacking into the ship's mainframe. "No more at the wrooooong times!" says Noah. "Lift this weight!" The bros in unison shout "we're here to help you if you're feeling low." In the final scene, Geo has cracked the code and steering the ship deeper through space and time. Avey interrupts the Deak vs Panda game of Centipede the two have been playing after rebooting a junked computer with Windows 95 and asks "are you coming hiking?"
