i bet this has already been brought up but imagine an expanded edition of CHz like the Tomboy one - an entirely different version of the album with an alternate tracklist and different (better?) mixes done by the band themselves
Spoiler: show

Ive said this before but I mainly just hate how quiet the drums are, because I feel like that's what holds everything together in these songs. If I try hard to focus on Panda's drumming and just kind of listen to everything else revolve around that, the songs sound much less messy.
I'm reluctant to blame Ben Allen for the production/mixing issues, but then I remember an interview where the band said they had to step in and say something about his work on New Town Burnout and that happens to be the only song I think has spot-on production.

Funny, i really enjoyed the production on the new Youth Lagoon album....

Do you have a link to that interview? I don't remember reading that at all but that issue did arise with Summertime Clothes when they were mixing Merriweather.
That's interesting that you think Panda's drums are too quiet. I'm skipping through CHz now and they seem pretty upfront. It's a different sound though...the bongos, metal cylinder thing, and shakere naturally aren't as loud and overpowering as a snare and toms.

I've said and thought this as well. I love the live boots because the drums seem clearer and louder. All of Ben Allen's records have that sound: Youth Lagoon, Washed Out, Deerhunter...the only exception is MPP and that's because the beats are made with machines. I would love to hear Nicolas Vernhes mix this. The live stuff on their YouTube sounds great!

i don't really give a shit because 30 years from now AC will release a $500 remastered box set, it'll be worth the wait

So weird listening to this in 2014. My favorite AC at the moment.

my dad bought me a copy of it for christmas and said, "that's that weird band you like right?"
it does sound a lot better on vinyl. i dunno, less chaotic? more like an alien transmission and less jumbled and harsh.
it's been growing on me a lot after disconnecting myself from the hype. the first 4 songs are so great, same goes for new town burnout and amanita. its about on par with strawberry jam for me these days.

it came out pretty much at the most difficult time of my young life so far, so no real good memories, it pretty much sounded like my life was at that time..way too chaotic, strange (not in a good way) and harsh. i also remember going "so this is it?" after my first listen, i instantly loved 2 panda tracks though.
i got out of the hospital in october 2012 and it has pretty much been growing on me ever since.
i fully understand the criticism it gets from some fans but i really love it for what it is.
i dont play it often but when i do i always love it, at times i consider it my favorite ac release. such an aggressive and strange record.

that bass or whatever it is is just so nasty. Stanshill needs to clean out his nonexistent ears and embrace the hz.

I think anything the album lacks is made up for by closing with Amanita oooh that song really gets me going. The panda tracks too, especially New Town Burnout.

When you take the lyrics to this album literally as a conversation between each band member...it's kind of weird.
