okay so whoever was saying that all the clubs are broken was indicative of where they were headed is officially vindicated. song's pretty dumb but you get the sense that it at least kinda knows that about itself.

what a surprise fgksjgks. maybe the most surprising collective release in a bit? it's catchy hehe. aligns with the last two panda/avey solos too, blown out/loud like neurons and sunny like praise hehe

Def big ATCAB vibes to it. Super dense, gotta give it a listen with headphones today because there are some nice details I'm only hearing parts of on these speakers. Really nice bass groove too! If this is the sound of the next album it's going to be fuckin massive, Painting With evolved.

What a pleasant surprise. I loved skiffs/IIN era and didn’t expect to hear anything from them as a group for a few more years still. I dig the catchy care free vibe of this after the kind of emotional density of the last era

song is really cool
what if there is a new album coming omg
the fact there is no mention of where this song came from in the press release makes me very curious

Woah this came outta nowhere huh? Lots to like on first listen. Love the scuffy lo-fi vibes and the outro is super pretty. Wish there was a bit more melodic juice but the hook has grower potential for sure. Much better than AtCAB.
P.S. It's not entirely unrelated but I used to write poetry and some short stories with lofty ambitions of getting published. 'Love On the Big Screen' was a working title of a collection of some of that material so this release caught me off guard in another way too!
Wouldn't be surprised if the boys had full access to my computer's SSD and/or my cerebrum. If I start memoryhole-ing the Music Box soundboards or post some red velvet cupcake revisionist shit then you'll know I've been compromised. Time for the tinfoil.

seriously. maybe the way the previous like 8 years went with us knowing everything about every song was something they didn't want for the next LP? i'd love a fresh album drop like they did with PW for the next one.

How amazing to get a surprise single that seemingly has no ties to some outside benefit compilation or some explanatory context, just new AC music for fun, awesome. Also a serious return to form in terms of cover art. What’s going on??

yeah i agree, fun rush to wake up to. we've definitely been blessed with the amount of stuff this year between this, grift, motherfuckers, shaw deal, new deakin boots, panda remixes, etc.
not sure how i feel about the song yet, the mixing is kinda weird and the hooks aren't super exciting to me on first listen but im willing to let it grow.

The lo-finess and noisiness reminds me of the single they put out a few months ago as part of a collection. Overall, though, it sounds a lot like Centepede Hz with the heavy sounding guitars and how generally rock it sounds. It reminds me a lot of Moonjock specifically.

Its fuzzy golden girl vibes
Its very uncool and fun and not immediately super sweet to me but could grow and i like the sounds and surprising fuzzy aesthetic after pretty clean iin skiffs era. Hope it signals a more lax and surprising and prolific approach to maij band releases

Yeah, my first thought was that this feels like the most Slasher Flicks-esque song Dave has written in a decade. Cool song

So cool - like everyone’s said: something of a mashup of a few different eras. Fun and fresh. And then listing a release date of a month from now seems tantalizing.

Totally hear CHz, Slasher Flicks, and something totally new -- especially in the production. Really sweet! Seems like a real grower which I always appreciate.

Big 1967 Beatles vibes. Seems like this is probably just another one off but man I would love an album of this

Confused, why is this being released as AC and not solo Avey? Like the song though

LOVE IT!
def hear the hz/slasher flicks/all clubs comparison but it still sounds really fresh to me. almost sounds like an evolution of tape prayer chant from new psycho actives. love the cello, i think them adding more orchestral elements like that would be so exciting. i hope they have a whole album like this cooking somewhere!

Ya agree with everyone here on the artwork, feels classic and cool. The lyrics here are a bit goofy I think but it's light enough that I like it. Definitely getting some Honeycomb/Gotham vibes. Really curious what if anything this means for future music or tour plans.
Sorry editing to add real quick:
This feels more significant than the one offs and compilation tracks we've gotten right? Maybe it's just the release style but I feel like this feels like we're officially moving into the next era after being in the Skiffs world for so long

I got the sense it's performed by the whole band, produced by Avey and Adam

7" are my favorite format and the single art IS SOOOOOO GOOD, like top 5 best AC artwork and that's saying something because their run of artwork through the 2000s in particular was golden
i love aesthetic of the single, it feels like the AC caricature cranked to 11/10 in the best way
my bet is that this is a one-off single, BUT i am pleasantly surprised at the new promo group pic, sometimes that can be indicative of a new era
in the end, if we get one AC 7" single a year for the next few years while we wait for the next LP, i'll be a happy camper

Noah hinting he might move back to the US was a massive alarm bells moment for me though, because it would mean they could much more easily have spontaneous jam sessions that end up leading to material they craft into shape for a new release
i don't know how imminent that would be, but just thinking... we could be getting a whole lot more of this kinda thing if that's the case

Credits from Apple Music:
Avey - vocals, guitar, bass synth
Deakin - vocals
Panda - vocals
Geo - synth
Adam McD - drums
Mikey Powers - cello
Confirms that this is likely one of those one-off tracks mostly worked on by Geo/Avey that Deakin mentioned contributing only vocals to last year. Really interesting that Adam McDaniel is on the drums here

listen #3 way cooler. But listen #1 & #2 in a hot borrowed car in my hometown on an apocalyptically sunny summer day on vacation made a whole lot of sense if you know what im sayin
It does kinda feel like Avey solo. but also can Avey like... hear me out... end his solo career output and just release stuff as AC more. Like why not, make AC more prolific and less tidy and restrained. Panda & Deak can still contribute writing to the Big LPs when it's right, but like, just let Avey cook and the boys contribute as needed and it can all just be AC or sumn. Idk doesn't rlly matter either way but why not

Really surprised by Adam on the drums. All bets point to this being a one-off jam. And yeah, the prospect of Noah returning to the States is deeply exciting for a return to older, jammier songwriting and playing styles.
