did my first listen, imm suprised for some reason like these dudes dont make my favorite music all the time. the standouts to me are the production, it's so good clear but still packed with a bunch of shit. love the steel guitars and other charming instruments ... my other big takeaway is the MADRIDD SONGSS!! when religious bop came on i was so happy, reverse demoitis, he fully fleshed that song out and made it sound as good as it deserved. insta brought me back to 21, outside my building smonking to those practices. well, now to listen again

Did the same this morning, walked my dog by the lake. Panda and Deakin have done an incredible job. Was worried about the appearance of bendy guitars and that particular use of delay isn't here exactly the same but then Elegy comes and it sounds exactly like what I imagined it could on record. Vocals popping all over the place on every song. Religious Bop was always my favorite and Just as Well is such a wonderful evolution of the sound and lyrics. I didn't partake in any current tour boots but I caught him in Chicago and I'm surprised my only sense of demoitis is that Noah sings the new "I'm gonna try, I'm gonna try" part instead of Maria and Rivka -- love their vocals everywhere else on the record. Small complaint.

Overall such an immediate record but I know it will keep unfolding with new listens.

certainly his poppiest album yet! the melodies have a vintage and almost timeless feeling to them right off the bat. a February release is crazy for an album this summery, but at least it's a rare sunny day in Seattle and not too cold for a first listen

first listen: I love it so much. really feels like the album he's been trying to make for ages. left in the cold + elegy are the best parts, and religious bop turned out so great. It's so warm and psychedelic, sounds so good. And his voice! Unbelievable. Huge huge W in every way

I'm still formulating thoughts but I've listened to this probably a dozen times today , even left work for an unjustified drive to get another listen in. Without moaning, I've not loved, worshipped and adored a whole AC or solo album for a long while, although I really enjoyed Reset and I think Homies is wonderful, my favourite since Tomboy. Initial thoughts are this is better. It's direct and chock full of hooks and gorgeous chord charges and vocal melodies, but there's more going on. Lots of unusual notes, some sound delightfully curiously bum, and tons of little rhythmic and harmonic shifts and flourishes.

Praise is my song of the year, really amplifies and chimes with my current feelings of love and yearning. That said, it's too early to pick out highlights and seem to discount others by not mentioning them. This is an incredibly strong set of songs treated very playfully and lovingly. For all of the thematic weight, it's an utterly joyful listen.

I had relatively little confidence that anything could encroach on what I perceive as The Golden Age, but this sounds very special to me.

Pretty cool to see Stan gushing over a new AC release.

As a previous sceptic, I'll join in: this thing sings with love and care. The songs are so delicately constructed and the production is so clean and delicious. Like lemon sorbet. The melodies are some of his strongest ever. I love the way he has merged Reset's 50s/60s style song writing, Tomboy's original textural vision and the luscious dub elements to create something that feels playful yet emotive and full of grace.

Love that this album opens with the classic dub echo snare roll. Left in the Cold might be my favorite of the slower tracks, incredible atmosphere. Was always a bigger fan of that one than Elegy on the Madrid boot. Was thinking this album would be my fav PB since Tomboy and it hits that mark for sure. Might even grow to like it more in time.

Considering that Josh co-produced this and that Brian appears on the majority of tracks, in addition to Dave’s contribution, I’m viewing this as Animal Collective record. In fact, if we can look into a crystal ball I’m inclined to predict that the next AC record could be Noah led.

Stoked by everything… except Just as Well. No demoitis this go around except for that track. The song lacks the “oomph” that the Madrid boot and the recent live versions have. The mix is missing something in the middle, missing some kind of low end or mid range power. But overall, an outstanding tour de force of Noah qua Noah here. The liner notes are especially open and telling.
