They said they aren't, which is fair. Also used the double contraction "it'll've". Interesting character

I had a weird meltdown about the fact that I didn't like Defense when it came out but now, listening to all three singles with that extra context and some time, its all clicking and I'm fucking pumped for tomorrow. Feeling good about the fact that these jams are feeling good.

the lyrics can feel like an afterthought, lacking depth or substance and instead feeling like there are lyrics out of necessity rather than anything else. This would explain the heavy use of repetition, heard on ‘Just as Well’, which repeats the lines “Got nothing left to lose,” and “Gonna try my luck on the outside,” at separate moments.

lol thanks bubbbloy--has really been hilarious that these last few days I have been scouring the net for reviews--for some morsel of this album--and they are mostly written by people who cannot express clearly anything about music at all...

save the trouble and do this on slsk --- I want the earlybird but I also don't want this thread to just be "pm me"
spoken like a true hall monitor even though I mostly lurk. but it's Christmas Eve and I can't resist being here... love to see it popping off around release time.
dunno how much I've said re: defense, ferry Lady, ends Meet, but man panda has just been honing his writing craft so hard. he has this elegantly stupid way of writing that is just so earnest, but cryptic and cerebral at the same time. ends Meet in particular is this "holy fuck" feeling reading it, just so much simplicity entangled with utter genius that the simplicity is like the tao. like some kind of yin and yang to "if my motor stalls; get the engine started again" and "you're in a spot precarious; don't get confused it's gonna call your bluff". just pure art in how paradoxically it's so snug. reading panda bear lyrics to me gives similar feeling to the Bills winning a playoff game. just take it home, Noah.
love to hear everyone's different takes and reading the early user reviews. personally, I feel these songs on recording have a strong connection to the Skiffs/Reset/IIN era PB, but the way he clearly is pulling from Never Ending Game and Buoys in a way just totally makes it like non-homomorphic to the aforementioned albums, just totally highlights this sinew that has been running through his work (including the PB stuff) since Young Prayer. Also the nature of these songs live highlights that similarity to the Madrid set, and feels totally distinct from his 2020s AC work. His discography (including the AC work!) really tells a story in and of itself that full band releases are too nebulous to contain. It's super clever and almost left-brained, and beautifully antithetical to Avey's wonderfully incomprehensible tapestry of madness-- but they are still tied in such innocent earnestness, no matter how edgy Noah can sometimes make his lyrics or encode jerking off into the lines (supposedly).

Can't ask for folks not to set off fireworks in their neighborhood, just have to plan around it happening. And on that front if anyone needs the freebird link, just PM me. I've been there as a decades-long AC fan and know most of you likely pre-ordered and just want to hear it ASAP and not share it yourselves.
EDIT: Love to see a lack of "plz crunchatize me" posts here so in return plz continue to PM me to avoid a surge of unwanted clutter.

Dude y'all, Noah is straight fucking chillin on this album, and it may not *strike* anyone immediately, but this is such a fucking vibe. What a blessing of an album.
