great interview! love that the intro to winter's love is Noah's demo, so cool. in that context it reminds me of the untitled visionnaire comp track.

Curious, has the From A Beach track on the bonus My Girls 10" been remixed and remastered at all? I'd love to hear this version if it is.

He did tell me Domino was about to announce something that I would be excited about for limited release at brick and mortars on October 15 (odd day for music release)… wasn’t allowed to disclose but they know me as the Animal Collective guy, so we might be getting something more very very soon (I’m hoping)!
Fingers crossed for Music Box, or Campfire Songs. He did ask me what my favorite album was... maybe CS or ODDSAC re-release? Who knows if this is even real
Also what’s this Spree song mentioned in the Stereogum interview/song-by-song?
Hey yall, got confirmation from a different record store owner in a different city that this is real. Also got confirmation of what it (likely) is. [EDITED OUT VAGUE TEASE]

I was being overly vague and I'm sorry about that. I really want to be more clear but also want to respect the surprise the guys (and Domino) have planned while also hyping y'all up. The major takeaway is that a second brick and mortar record store owner corroborated what I had heard and provided a little more info, and that leads me to believe a surprise release is in fact incoming.

I took the Ni Hao thing to be like an AI voice-to-text transcription error but... maybe?

Hard to fathom “the situation” in Asheville. Hope we get to hear Dave’s take eventually. Wonder if this will precipitate another move for him.

That is a huuuuuuge compilation. Wow. 10 hours?! And tons of big names. Easy buy, and good avenue for donating to the cause. Encourage folks to use the Name Your Price feature . . . big need, and great orgs.

I found a song called "Afghan Papers" on ASCAP listed under all 4 of them. Anyone know what that is?
Edit:Whoops, saw the previous convo about this. Cool!

This is a bit dorky on my part but years ago I made an AC fan theory thread on the Reddit and my fan theory was that the intro to Winter’s Love was a panda demo! So I was stoked to see that tidbit confirmed. I have a strong feeling that the Winter’s Love and Visionnaire tracks were recorded in the same batch. They both sound vv similar to me.
On a different note, than fan theory thread ended up being a bit of a mistake. I thought it would be more about theories about mysterious bits of audio in their songs and where they came from, but instead it turned more into creepy parasocial theories about the band and how they were secretly sending messages to the people responding. I was like “what no guys I meant your theories about the weird wet sounds on College or sumthin” lol.

Anything with the term "fan theory" in it is cursed from the get-go
Interview link got next page'd
https://www.stereogum.com/2283020/anima ... ack/music/
I'm going to guess Noah actually said "me how" into “meow" and the interviewer misheard him lol
At first I thought this was going to be related to the question of how record store employees get fired hahaha

what's so hard to believe about Ni Hao? makes sense to me, hardly the weirdest lyrics they've written

So... what do you think the lyrics for the end of Leaf House are, instead of "There's no one to show me how (kitties) meow (kitties)"?
I could be wrong, but I think it makes more sense for someone to hear someone say "me how" with no other context and assume they're saying "ni hao"
Anyway this interview rocks and I love how in-depth it goes and how much it avoids retreading things.
That part about Winters Love is such a revelation. I already loved the fact that it had a little intro section, but didn't realise it was all Noah's voice. Another thing I like about that song is that not only do they switch from wordless vocals to singing the lyrics, but they swap singing parts between the intro (after the demo) and where the lyrics come in. In the intro Dave is singing the middle part and Noah is singing the part that alternates between high falsetto and really low. Sung Tongs is a great record for learning to distinguish their voices I think. Mouth Wooed Her is another good track for that.

I always thought it was "there's no one to say meow"

The first time they say, "There's no one to show me how (kitties)"
The following times they say "meow (kitties)"
Similar to "Mr. Airplane / missed our airplane"
"Ni hao" is either a riff Noah is doing in the interview or a transcription error on the part of the interviewer.

This is Deakin erasure. Haven’t seen ODDSAC in a good 5 years so probably about time aye

Closing track of the latest O’Brien system has a parenthetical “Wendy Darling style edit”. If I’m not mistaken Wendy Darling was an early project of Dave and Geo

I’d never erase Deakin (on purpose)
But Avery’s set is so quintessentially Halloween it is basically up there with Oddsac and all my favorite slashers for must watch every October.
