OK this all but confirms it's those mexican style covers of reset tracks

Hey there . Well….not exactly covers . We recorded in Coyoacan in Mexico city with MARIACHI 2000 de Cutberto Perez . We translated the songs into Spanish & sing a version of each of the 2 songs as do they . They played the instruments & we did the percussion . We have two vids too , one by skater Evan Smith and one by yr om bray Lucas Moreira .

Excited to hear! Will def be pre-ordering.

Have you heard Sinister Grift? Is it as good as the previews suggest? Finding it difficult to wait.

I have , yeah , it sounds great . Has a couple of new twists that I liked the most , but I can't really answer questions on that . It'll be worth the wait .

Such a shame the industry has these looooong lead times . Wasn't always like this .There were records recorded , pressed & released in the same WEEK in the '60s ....

Yeah i have a hard time imagining its even good for business/sales... Im guessing its the label giving certain artists the short end of the stick to make room for other releases?

Also...... Im guessing pb solo tour in 2025 with a full band? :metal

I'm not seeing a preorder on Domino. Anyone have a link to share? Maybe it's coming this week?

Yoo! These sound so good! The perfect two songs to cover, and the horns omg!
Love those roaring sounds in the back of Peligro.

Ordered a copy, really curious to see how the dual concentric vinyl cut thing works,

I noticed that. It's probably supposed to replicate the "randomness" of the vinyl release.

Peligro maybe better than what was already the best song on the album, somehow. So good

Nice . The roar is from a Jaguar call ‘flute’ Santiago gave me in CDMX . There’s also a peacock in there , and laughter ( me & Patrice , one of the arrangers ) . The guy shouting in Viviendo en las secuelas is our buddy & live and studio team sound magi Oswaldo Terrones . A mexican living here in Sintra , PT who helped us find the team we brought together for this . Around 25 people just for the translation , arrangement ,playing and recording . Was a big op ! The opposite of RESET , where only 2 people were involved in the recording …..plus Guilherme Goncalves who fixes my vocals : )

"... the mariachi loved the songs and were bemused by their simplicity and the apparent sleight of hand in their construction."

curious about this point, sleight of hand - is this referring to the arrangement, the lyrics/translation, the melody, something else or all of the above?

Pete, I think what Benji means is "Did the mariachi band love the original songs' 'sleight of hand' because you and Noah used samples (so deftly!)?"

I don’t know re: original songs . Mariachi are hired guns & it’s not really a question of do they love every song they are asked to play . Often Mariachi compete w each other on how they play the song , to get the job …. It’s a different ecosystem . I don’t think they heard the originals , and ‘we’ had everything scored for them . All I know is how they seemed to feel the joy when they played them . No samples were used . My comment re ‘ sleight of hand’ is about the construction of the songs . 2 chords front to back is relatively unusual in music ( Danger:Peligro ) . I know cos It’s a vein I tapped a long time & recognise when i hear it , but I think Noah & I both have a weird sense for the art of how to dance around that simplicity to make almost nothing into something magical .. But I also know , to musicians who have a much wider scope than I do , that it’s a surprise when the great song yr digging creates it’s vibe & dynamics from such a simple root . Like 3 upturned cups & a pea …. Where’s the pea at now ? Still the same 3 cups , still the same pea …but somehow always keeping u guessing & surprised .,

Thanks for going into detail and being candid about it :P

I think I get what you mean. Love it when a song dances around one note or one change. I guess you can flavour a simple root with much more contrast and create more depth that way, or arrange it different like rearranging your furniture and the whole space feels different.

Do you have any plans for another solo record soon? Any plans to produce other artists?

Yeah , of course ! I’ve been recording with Saul Adamczewski & Aidan Clough’s INSECURE MEN. And yeah , slowly cooking something to see what we can get ….. it’s gonna be a while I think but definitely have ideas & plans for the beyond . Noah has his Sinister Grift out next year he recorded w Deakin , so i’m slow cooking .
RESET came from a special moment which has passed now , but gonna seek inspiration in some of our outstanding issues I think ….let’s see

Hmmm……just been chillin’ after the RESET era . Taking stock . The garden is always a big inspiration spot for me . I’ve been working on turning part of my garden into a large desert Cactus rock zone w 20 or so larger cactus of different types . Also a bromeliad zone under the shade of a tree .
