New live release!!!

KOH LIVE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IG1UC9GMRQ

I was there at the *other* Ace Hotel show, the one where *someone* interrupted College, making certain that *this* would be the show officially released and not the one *I* attended... Damn.

Otherwise, LOVE the art and this is obviously an insta-buy. But no Tuvin makes me :negative:

I pre-ordered the digital and don’t see the extra songs. Did those who are seeing the five extras pre-order the vinyl?

Haha. That's the same show I was at. Too bad they couldn't press that one.

I pre-ordered the digital-only on bandcamp. I'm wondering if those five tracks only appear in the digital for those who pre-ordered the vinyl (?), though that's total speculation.

I guess we'll find out about the extra tracks five months from now!

and yeah October seems crazy for a release like this. I bet vinyl production delays has something to do with it. really wish Domino would adopt the digital-now, vinyl-when-it's-ready approach but I guess that means fewer people would buy the vinyl

also this is probably what's gonna delay Sinister Grift until 2025 :-(

Perhaps, but I have to figure this has been scheduled for product development and then pressing well in advance of when SG was done recording, given it had to be conceived for the 20th anniversary in the first place.

Let's trust everyone's doing their best.

I agree, though, that digital-first would likely negatively impact vinyl sales.

And while we're all here, if anyone bought one or both of those absolutely BEAUTIFUL AF holographic posters they were selling at these Sung Tong shows, I'll pay just about any amount of money for them. Seriously, I do not know what I was thinking passing up on that at the time. It's probably the best merch this band has ever produced and that was such a special night for me personally.

kids sounds soooooooooo goooooooood.

the art is shit hot too.

seems a little strange to announce it sooo far before october though. for a retrospective live release. could understand for a new studio album having the big lead in time but i feel like this sorta stuff, just tell us a month or two before.

I have to imagine it must be the vinyl thing. Domino can’t possibly think that long of a lead time will lead to more people listening to the record. If anything it hampers the release, when albums have such a long wait it’s so easy to forget it exists or just assume it already released and you just missed being part of the conversation.

Caught them twice on the European tour, both shows were very faithful perforrmances. Hadn't heard any of the US shows must've gotten looser/freer

To be fair to Domino’s release strategy, the vinyl is probably the only reason they’re doing this (ofc, the anniversary, but.) It’s not about making pennies on streams, it’s about getting 3,000-10,000 sweaty nerds excited about the idea of hearing it for the first time on vinyl. Fans moist over the sentimentality of it all.

Came here to say the same thing. The only ST show I caught was the first one at the Pitchfork anniversary where they did pretty faithful renditions.

The second half of this KOH is absolutely bonkers

the question stands.. why announce it so far in advance? if its a vinyl production delay, why not just announce it in september? idk I guess i am not complaining about hearing a track this far in advance, but now I am salivating over hearing this whole thing. never delved into the boots from these shows but this sounds amazing.

Only thing about this release not up-to-snuff is the artwork. The skeleton image rules. But the typography feels totally dissonant with the AC universe. First, the Pacman font. Looks like it belongs on a Coldplay record. Second, why is all that text—it’s a mouthful!—squeezed into two lines? Awkward line-break at “the.” This cover is so rigid and staid. These songs beg for something woolly-er. Gives me the impression this release is largely a label-driven effort.

People’s ability to identify and develop “cool” imagery declines rapidly with age. The boys are getting older, they can still make beautiful music but they do not have the wherewithal to identify corny visuals. Goes hand in hand with their late fashion sense

I agree the text design could have been much better suited to the artwork and music within, however I knew the font looked familiar and sure enough....it is very similar to what was used for Animal Crack Box. I suppose there is some sort of logic there, as it is another live release harkening back to early days...

Presumably they announced it now because May 3 was the official 20th anniversary...

I can see about the font, and I wish the title was just - Sung Tongs Live at the Ace Hotel. But I disagree about the art. I love it, and I think it fits into the AC-verse just fine. The skeleton evokes the ST cover, but the rest is its own thing.
