lol I feel you dude. you're talking about costume jewellery? avey's definitely been in that zone for a while.

Yeah, is it just me or does Costume Jewelry sound just like K.C. Yours?

I was pleasantly surprised by this. Good sonic variety. I'm glad for the breathing space in the mix - I still feel 7s is a stifling listen. I like the piano sounds throughout, the orchestrated elements are very welcome. Makes the title track quite cinematic in a way that I don't think has come through in much AC music previously. Superflower's backing vocals are great too. The intro track and Spontaneous rainy daydream are wonderful mood pieces, I'd be glad to hear more in that vein if Avey chose to explore that further. But back to archie's point, I think what I really want to hear from avey are stronger, more resonant melodies.

yea talking about that track. put on 10 seconds of it then had to turn off lol and i love avey but yer idk the recent stuff seems flat and devoid of excitement but i know thats not true for him so it doesnt matter

this sounds like blasphemy but the Superflower side is much more exciting to me than the Avey side, but at least Preydator feat. Avey is the highlight of the whole split
Not blasphemy when it’s just the truth. I know it’s supposed to be a low key release but the fact remains, Avey’s songs are super undercooked. Superflower side is cool tho and Preydator is a Jam. Her voice reminds me quite a bit of one of the vocalists from Visitations (if anyone’s into the Maine free folk scene and knows who that is, you rock)

hard to track down much info on visitations but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pE0eg9Ws9Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6mmG9ntiQM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaoZHhgOgc4
sounds a bit "of its time" but a band i can definitely imagine seeing 15 years ago

Undercooked is a good word for it. I actually like that it sounds like that. Reminds me of that Ocean song he dropped right before Eucalyptus.

It would be cool to get a little more background on the ep. just because I feel like it would provide more insight. tbh, what it reminded me of was the spirits EP songs, the bus back to New York, song. so Idk if they were songs laying around or if they were written for this EP specifically or what the case was... and when you say "5 4 chord progression" are referring to the song being played using 1-4-5 ?
I thought 7s was a great solo LP tho. it did feel a little short and did take a few listens to get into the last song of Lp.
Cows came out nicely, despite always wishing that Midnight special made the cut. but on every Era theres a song or 2 that's like that.
Anyone else notice on IG he keeps sharing stories of vocal clips and sounds? sounds like he's teasing something?

I was gonna mention this! can't quite tell if the audio is slowed/distorted in some way? but definitely seems like teasing some new material

Just interviewed Avey and Superflower with Greg. Should be up by the end of the week! Talked about those IG "Portal" videos as well.

Really liked the interview, it's always cool to hear them talk about music as I'm hearing it for the first time.
Waiting for my cassette to arrive to hear Avey's side, but Zoie's/Superflower's side is really beautiful. The little digital vocal flickers in a couple of the songs sounds really cool. I really want more stuff that sounds like this, hope she keeps putting out releases

Agreed, really good interview! Thanks guys. The song by song format was great and alternating between the two artists worked a treat

Had a moment today with “Spontaneous Rainy Daydream.” Has the feel of an old jazz cut, a live cut with the bartender clinking away in the background. Dave Portner at The Alhambra. I’d love to hear more of his piano jams. “Costume Jewelry” is cool too. The stuttering, kinda janky intro. His wordplay is fun on this one.

Geo played "Costume Jewelry" on the O'brien System a couple of days ago, much cleaner than the cassette rip.
