josh: "i probably have at least an album and a half's worth of partially or fully demoed—or written—songs, and my intention was to finish that this year, but the year's coming to a close, and it looks like i'm gonna help noah make his record first"
noah: "i messed it up. sorry everybody. my bad."
josh: "son of a bitch"

ya, great thing about getting interviews with more than one member is you get some of that friendship dynamic and the little jokes...
my favorite part was at the end when they're talking about what the guys are currently up to, and Panda says "well avey and geo are on tour" and deakin goes "no that tour ended yesterday" and Panda goes "oh... um well check out those bootlegs!"
he knows us too well

I'm glad the post-release period has given us more interviews, because I really just love to hear Josh speak.

it’d be interesting to know if they did any vocals tuning on IIN, since they didn’t want to use plugins.

Catching up on all of these recent interviews, really enjoying them tbh even the Joe Biden one. Even if the pace of records under the proper AC name becomes a bit slower it feels like theres a creative spark between all the guys and their relationships are strong. Really excited at all of these solo shows and more experimental things like Gator Pools and Geo's hurdy gurdy sets. Gonna be a fruitful next few years from the whole camp.
Also just cuz this is the IIN? thread, Magicians has become a major highlight for me. It was one I never really got but listening to the record it is sometimes my favorite. Noah's drumming is amazing. People say he's playing more traditionally on most of these songs which is generally true but he's way out there on that song, no idea how he came up with that stuff.

yeah saw that deakin was team anti defeat closer lol. would guess the rest of the band probably were too, ah well
i do think blindmowing is probably right in thinking that was the main reason they scrapped the 5 song lp idea... defeat is an entire side of vinyl, so if it isn't going to be your closer then it would have to open, which would be, um, bold. wonder if they were considering getting fancy with vinyl formats to smuggle defeat into the middle of the tracklisting somehow, like a 12" plus a 10" or 7"
My thoughts as well - if it was a 5 song LP and Defeat isnt closing, where the hell is it lol. I feel like the opening 5 tracks to IIN is perfect. The sequence falls apart after Defeat for me anyway as they feel all tacked on.
Soul Capturer has really catapulted into one of my fav tracks of the whole TS/IIN group of songs.
I loved Panda's attitude during that Joe Biden interview lol. Was cracking me up. Glad to hear Josh so candid and glad he is finding his footing. Really looking forward to hear what they do with Sinister Grift.

Wish these interviews would get deeper into specifics about the songs, about recording, about the live shows. Maybe the band’s music and general m.o., because it is so “out there,” invites really broad and ultimately kinda uninteresting questions. That or the interviewers just aren’t very good at their craft. Feel like Josh especially is itching to talk about this era, his songwriting, and the future—throw him a bone, people!

Beautiful and meaningful album, I'm still giving it focused listens and absorbing it. But right now, it might be my 3rd favorite album by them (ST, Feels being 1 and 2). It plays like an old film that stays with you and you keep coming back to for a certain feeling. A real solid tone and energy all throughout. Dark but glimmering, real and magical, broken but wanting to heal, damaged and trying to heal. Haven't been this invested into an album for a long time. I feel like I set aside time specifically to listen to it with no distractions in the room. Reminds me of how I used to be, when first getting obsessed with music in my teenage years. Kings Walk is a sick ending to this masterpiece. "Hold hands" for real.
I'm so glad that all this material got fully realized and recorded as 2 different albums. The lightness of Time Skiffs and darkness of IIN are nice foils to each other. And i'm glad they sound like two distinctly separate albums.
I'm super thankful to have this hour of music from IIN to delve into as Fall kicks in. Listening to this and the 1977 Pharoah Sanders reissue has been a real solid way of embracing this season.
I remember a super old interview where Avey said that AC wants their music to sound "personal", and I definitely feel that on this album.

King's walk is a cool title but I think hold hands would've been sick

Thought it was funny Noah directly mentioned Death Grips as being more sonically similar to AC than a lot of the bands they get compared to. They're pretty different usually but I get where he's coming from

Yeah Noah bringing up Death Grips in that interview took me by surprise, I can kind of see it but I never would have thought to compare them on my own. I hope he's aware of how big of an AC fan Zach Hill is.

Reminds me of that picture they took with Odd Future. I bet that was more Noah’s thing.

Just had a random trippy thought. I wonder if Gem & I could be interpreted as a commentary on reincarnation and how no matter what happens, him and his friends will be together in every life doing what they love. I’m sure that’s not the point of the song, but I wonder what Noah’s thoughts on reincarnation are.

Back in Aus and enjoying this album even more in the warm weather. Stride, Genies, and Magicians are my favs (in that order). Defeat is something that can’t be ranked - I classify at as an objective all time classic/epic, but at the same time I don’t find myself returning to it often. Kings has opened up for me a bit - it’s actually quite enjoyable and I mentioned this before but it just exudes such strong AC nostalgia for me. Great album even though it didn’t blow me away initially.

Getting mixed up in the pot among the vapors.
I think this album is among what everyone considers their best. To say that is to concede that their last three are lesser which sucks, but my main canon of 2000s AC albums were Sung tongs to Jam, and this album easily fits in. Glad to be experiencing this music with you all, because stuff like Magicians from baltimore and defeat is stuff that sick with us for around 25 years haha. See you then

interestingly, my favorite two songs on the record might be the first two...
Genie's is by far the biggest grower...went from underwhelming to just the PERFECT groove, so easy to get lost in that one and follow the current of that song... it's so heart-warming to hear Avey and Panda sing together like that...makes me feel really nostalgic for some reason. a real classic AC tune.
Soul Capturer is another one which was a bit of a shrug in its live form but is massively exciting on record.

first part of genie's is really intoxicating. always wishing that part went for 8 minutes... but then it shifts to the next bit and that part is great too. spoiled we are
