damn it feels like the Painting With reaction really impacted the band a lot

I imagine its poor reception influenced Domino’s approach to Skiffs and Isn’t It Now too. Interesting hearing Dave hint at changes in the music industry and how it’s going to affect the band. The next step sounds pretty clouded by a factor of things. I wish the interviewer had followed-up and asked the obvious: What is next for Animal Collective? Missed opportunity.
Interesting connection made with Ram Dass and “Be Here Now.”

Yes he is. Embelmatic of the modern listener ravenously consuming as many releases as possible in order to rank them, quantize them, and move on to the next thing. Always struck me as having very narrow taste too.
Tap on here is a good counter example--listens to loads but actually seems to, you know, like music

He's generally a pretty solid interviewer - despite his flimsy reviews - but quite funny that he's doing this considering he hasn't talked about any of their work that positively for a long time it feels like.

It’s crazy how close minded he is considering his status as a music critic. Seems like at this point in his career he’s too focused on the trendy hyped up flavours of the month to really take stock in much else. Like if I was 15 years into that sort of career I certainly wouldn’t want to be conducting interviews and genuinely evaluating releases from Oliver Tree of all people, no matter what I thought of the music itself. Sucks to say but this sort of niche has probably all but drained his passion for music; now just some guy at the pulpit being told what to say by the masses. I’m just going off vibes here though, lmao
FWIW I think he’s had some decent interviews and can hopefully make this a good one too while also raising the profile for IIN? a bit, considering its lacklustre promotion.

Uh is this happening or what?
EDIT: yes, josh and noah
EDIT 2:
Gatekeeping is bad, confirmed by Noah and Josh; like what you like.
EDIT 3: When asked about records representative of Animal Collective's music, Josh pointed to Strawberry Jam, Noah pointed to ODDSAC (and said it might be his favorite). This made Joe Biden and Josh do a chuckle (I think in appreciation of the record and that it's also one that's harder for many newer fans to engage with).
EDIT 4: "No harmonies" on Centipede Hz was an intentional approach when making that record.
EDIT 5: Josh confirmed he's flying out to Noah in November to start recording Sinister Grift. Josh has an album and a half of material, and would like to start recording within four months but acknowledged he has trouble following through and didn't want to be held to that timeline (a remark which made Noah laugh out loud). Brian and Josh are planning some solo sets for November (unclear if Josh's will be European dates).
EDIT 6: Josh teased ideas formulating for a new band EP but we shouldn't expect it for some time (solo work is most immediate priority).

I dont know what thread to post this in but does anyone have a link to the story of Avey creating an album out of necessity from avoiding homelessness. I’m going through an extremely difficult time right now and in dire need of motivation.

Not what you're asking for exactly but Noah just said in the above interview that the best way to ensure you stay in depression (which isn't the same but may be involved here, idk) is by doing nothing; doing anything is the first step to getting out of it. I hope you're doing alright and have the courage to take the steps out of your difficult time. Constant baby steps forward. Hang in there, this is just a season

I think about that a lot, how they played that song almost every show, and how many days of their life have been spent playing Defeat, yet the recording doesn't feel like they're exhausted with it. It's really an accomplishment.

Yes!! It was also earlier in the morning when I posted this and I realize now it reads as more snobby than I intended…
I am pretty biased against the whole Joe Biden fanbase because no one’s personal opinion should be as heralded as his is, but also it’s kinda just a boys club? Moreso I just don’t like when artists get associated with scenes like that. I guess maybe it is snobbish of me to say that because I do find those kinds of circles to be “uncool” or whatever but idk, I feel like anco deserves more than Twitter goblins or whatever.

Aw thanks! I can confirm that I do really like music a whole lot! But how can you not when it's like this
https://rickweaver.bandcamp.com/album/stone-fruit-2
Music is awesome and the only time I want to put it in its place is when the place is my ears (because I'm listening to it)
Also on topic, I'm still going really slow with IIN, but I'm really liking the approach, feels like what's right for this album. Tho maybe I'm making a mistake because the sunshine is escaping more and more each day, and this feels like sunshine music...

Promotion-wise I'll start being worried when AC appears on the Hot Ones or break down their most iconic roles for GQ

Do y'all not want them to be successful? I seriously don't care what kind of audience starts listening to their music, that's purely a positive in my book. Especially when in recent interviews they've expressed that they legitimately have some difficulties making money nowadays. I'm kind of new to this board so I'm not sure how rooted that kind of attitude is within the fanbase, but I find it exceptionally lame. If they did a hot ones or GQ interview I would be thrilled for them and excited to see it.

Yeah I don't have a problem with the band showing up in promotional stuff and getting that commercial money or whatever as much as I do the fans of the band who act like they've just smoked weed for the first time and are listening to super secret music no one else has ever heard so they BETTER not do interviews!

Same!! And GQ or anything mainstream. The fact that they sold a bunch of their old gear last year or whatever doesn't give me the idea that they're doing great financially... expanding their fanbase is only a good thing for the band
sidenote - LL Cool J's Hot Ones is fucking hilarious... if you were to watch only one I'd recommend that one

100%. Want the band to have fewer fans? Genius. They’ll never play outside the states again. It’s already proven to be a losing endeavor—see the cornpilled European tour—and, as revealed in one of the recent interviews, even touring the US is unsustainable. Frick.

The Forum would be dope but I’ll take anything at this point. The most cursed knowledge of my life was finding out the last time they played over here was not long before I first discovered them

It’s been a long time
I was lucky enough to be around the first time they came. Saw them at Newtown RSL in Sydney with about 300 other people.
