AnCo psytrance/psybient album would be a dream come true. My other favourite artist is Shpongle. Not sure if any of you know of them, but AnCo in that sort of style would be incredible.

Been thinking a lot about the next direction and it's impossible to know but I'd love something out of left field.
I love it when they leave in the long searching psych intro jam that makes the main part of the song hit harder. The feeling of them jamming together into a song is so perfected that it always give me chills
I think an icy cold winter album could be really fun and great especially with how textured they manage to make everything, I don't they have gone for that vibe in a long time.

I think it's pretty likely they'll have another crack at something PW-ish eventually. Another 'to the point' all-hooks sugar rush album, maybe with less hocketing and a more varied, kaleidoscopic production.
I guess I'm just describing Reset. Basically the boys should do Reset.

listening to reset in dub, and thinking it would be great for them to stay in the realm of music that’s immediately pleasant to hear (which skiffs and now are), but going more electronic / non typical rock band instruments, like a sitar would be cool. and i’m not saying it should be poppy, just something that goes down on first listen really nicely. should be like a really nice red wine where the dimensions deepen after a little aeration. reset in dub seems to be hitting that area of both immediate and long term gratification.
also will need a drawn out panda song like new town burnout or I think I can.

Agree!
How cool would an actual AC dub-style album be?!
Like Reset in Dub, early Taste, 2009 Winter's Love, #1, I'm Not etc.
Would be tasty AF.

As much as I love the direction of IIN and TS I feel like the next album should be lead by Noah and Geologist. I would love to hear more AnCo music that makes me want to get up and dance. Panda is obviously really good at making poppy songs and i miss the crazy amount of noises and samples that Geo would put into each song.
However, if the guys continue on the path of making more serious music, I would love to hear a full blown Alice Coltrane - Journey into Satchidananda inspired album, or Scientist inspired psychedelic dub album. As much as I love Reset in Dub, I feel like the guys could to a much better / trippier album on their own.

Continuing on my last thought. I would love to hear a Ravi Shankar inspired song or just straight up psychedelic meditation trance music.

longstanding panda bear first anco second fan here, i would also love this. feels like a lot of avey-led music coming out of the group in their recent output. seconding this idea, would love love love panda to take the wheel on a pw-moog fest type sound

given it some thought and I’d really like to see this setup:
Panda - back on samplers, synths, and the like
Avey - behind a neil peart style drum set (possibly enclosed/imprisoned?)
Geologist - lead guitar
Deakin - flute, saxophones, other woodwinds etc

Very unlikely, as they probably won't return to these kinds of sounds, but I think I'd really dig the following: Avey, geo and deakin on synths and sounds like on tangerine reef, panda on heavy digitakt beats like on homies. Dark, moody, but danceable, kinda their weird 80s synth pop ala yellow magic orchestra. All of them sing, geo does the occasional vocoder.

I just came up with the most logical direction their next album should go…
Centipede Hz sequel / Stereolab inspired album!!!
I was listening to Spotify on shuffle and Parsec by Stereolab came on. Immediately a lightbulb went on in my head. I think Noah should take the lead on the next record. Use his European influence to move the band from Grateful Dead jam band rock to avant-experimental pop jazz. TS and IIN seem to be the most tame, least experimental, and accessible albums AnCo have made since their MPP days.
If they make a Stereolab influenced, Centipede Hz like album, they can make serious pop music that compliments their more mature live music direction with their experimental / electronic psych side. I honestly feel like this is the most logical direction for them to move forward with.

Stuff that works like Mr. Fingers. Also please play Mr. Fingers live. Either way progress the Hurdy Gurdy style sound and go ham on tribal drumming and vocal FX... also play What Happened? live. even if it's basically just a strawberry jam song. has that similar feeling to Winter Wonderland in that way to me
This is been kind of what I've been thinking too. Would love to see them explore their darker side again but with a big, lush analog sound. More ominous and propulsive tracks in the vein of Mr. Fingers, I Think I Can, Enjoy the Change etc. Would be a cool way to get Panda back on a more tom-centric kit without risking sounding like a Feels rehash.

honestly i would kind of love if panda kept to the very in the grid drumming but the rest of them kept the exploratory atmosphere they've had recently, more like hcti but with a groove behind it, proper noise music in a weirdly pop setting, could see it so well, but god knows what they will do really

Definitely would like a big left turn from the Skiffs sound, but also I hope Avey continues to write more looooong songs.

I hope ACAB is a sneak peek of their next sound and Avey continues to write long songs. An AnCo album of 12'' disco tunes is the logical next step.

Avey said he didn't really know how to write short songs, but we got ACAB. So I'm hopeful we don't just get 20+ minute Avey songs
as much as I love Defeat

Deakin going to Europe is making me further believe that he's gonna join the Panda Bear & The Sinister Grift rock and roll band. With the next Anco stuff being some hopefully esoteric and freaky Avey/Geo stuff

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading or hearing in a panda interview that panda wants Deakin to mix Sinister Grift. So maybe they'll finish it up while he's in Europe.

ACAB fades in so it's head canon for me that it actually started like 12 minutes earlier but Russell Elevado didn't hit record until there were 2 min 16sec left of the song lol

I had a dream last night where they released a single mix of magicians that somehow transitioned into acab after the first chorus, so it was revealed to be an alternative ending and the song was only 5 minutes long

is there any doubt that the next time AC starts playing live again that they'll be playing new music? To be honest the era I'm most excited for is Panda with a band doing his sinister grift guitar stuff.
I think AC should make a techno record next

I felt the same when I heard ACAB for the first time. It's the newest song they've written or recorded and I don't believe they've played it live. I'd love for them to take this direction but really elaborate on developing song arrangements and progressions that really take each song somewhere different. Essentially less repetitive and not just building layers, but really taking the structure of the songs into a more progessive style. I love ACAB so much but it's entirely too short and repetitive - it needs to have a bridge, a modulation of some kind, a change in chord progression and groove. If they develop this style for their next release I'd be ecstatic.
I would love for Panda to take lead as well but honestly I feel his songwriting in recent years has very heavily relied on repetition, sometimes being too predictable. For instance, Gem and I is a great tune, but it really only feels like there's an A section and a B section. I want more exploration from him. I hate to even say this because it isn't really an issue, but a lot of his stuff has become very heavily based on pop structure. I want some curveballs and melodic/groove change ups

Avey posted an interview with a Miami mag (I think) where he talks a little bit about how “the pot is starting to brew a bit” in terms of what AC might do next. “The possibilities are endless”
