I don't think I'm ready for this yet. Definitely like to sit with the album as intended for a long while before I start playing with it! But the time will come. Curious to see other people's sequences in the meantime.

Also shared this in the IIN? thread, but:
Strung with Everything EP
1 Strung with Everything
2 Walker
3 We Go Back
4 Royal and Desire
Time Skiffs (alternate universe version)

5 Gem and I
6 ACAB
7 Genie's Open
8 Passer-by
9 Stride Rite

Was deliberately leaving Kings and Soul out and letting them be b-sides, but I could still maybe see Soul opening here and throwing Kings somewhere in the middle?

I literally just said I wouldn't do this yet but I'm craving more IIN discussion/interaction so thought I'd throw together something that might be cool just for fun. Won't actually listen to it for a while yet but might give it a crack at some point in the future (maybe once IIN officially drops).
None of these are relegated to b-side status. The band just releases a double album of course:
'Isn't It Time For Skiffs Now?'
Part 1:
1. Magicians
2. Prester
3. Gem
4. Strung
5. Car Keys
6. Soul
7. We Go Back
8. Broke
9. Passerby
10. Royal
Part 2:
1. Dragon
2. Genies
3. Stride
4. Defeat
5. Walker
6. Clubs
7. Cherokee
8. Kings

Funny since not many of us thought of Soul Capturer as an opener before the tracklist reveal, but the studio version is such an incredible mood/scene setter that I know whatever order I come up will absolutely NEED to start with SC -- it is the pandora's key that opens up the world for everything else that comes after. I find any other sound/song sends the wrong message of what's to come... with the exception of Magicians. I think Magicians also prepares the listener and sets the opening scene in a way that would honour the overall vision, BUT the thing with that one is I see it as a much more versatile track in terms of where it could show up in the Mega Mix. SC has become such an undisputed opener to me now...

Lol
Also, not to be cheeky or dismissive but um literally just play IIN, THEN play The Challenge, and THEN play Skiffs, boom.
Keep them all together. I think if/when they do drop all of MBV it will open things up, but these albums are pretty damn unique to me and I actually actively do NOT want to muddle them together more that already sort of might be in our collectives mind. It's a split era, let it be split yknow. But also I do get it.

I haven't sorted out track orders. But here is my first draft of album assignments for a 3 LP era based on the distinct sounds I hear across the post-2020 material [fwiw I can't hear Sux-Bier Passage fitting on any of them - but it helped me push one over the 40-minute mark so, it's there]
Royal and Desire / Cherokee / Dragon Slayer / Passer-by / Rain in Cups / Stride Rite / Broke Zodiac / Sux-Bier Passage [46 minutes]
Soul Capturer / Genie's Open / Magicians from Baltimore / Defeat / King's Walk / Prester John [58 minutes]
ATCAB / Gem & I / Piggy Knows / String with Everything / Walker / We Go Back / Car Keys / Bridge to Quiet [44 minutes]
Royal and Desire / Cherokee / Dragon Slayer / Passer-by / Rain in Cups / Stride Rite / Broke Zodiac / Sux-Bier Passage [46 minutes]
Soul Capturer / Genie's Open / Magicians from Baltimore / Defeat / King's Walk / Prester John [58 minutes]

no contribution yet but in the warm up to the release i've been listening to the 2019 boots, bridge to quiet, 2021 boots, time skiffs, and the 2022 boots and man, bridge to quiet *really* fits in with these tracks

Honestly I find the IIN tracklist very appropriate — it feels like a conflicted album and the order represents that spectrum of emotions very well. If I had to throw Time Skiffs in there, and tinker with IIN's tracklist for fun, it would play out like this.
Disc One
1. Prester John
2. Dragon Slayer
3. Magicians From Baltimore
4. Gem & I
5. Broke Zodiac
6. Royal And Desire
Disc Two
7. Soul Capturer
8. Stride Rite
9. All The Clubs Are Broken
10 .Defeat
11. King's Walk
12. Genie's Open
B-side/EP maybe:
1.Cherokee
2.Car Keys
3.We Go Back
4.Strung With Everything
Disc One

2. Dragon Slayer
3. Magicians From Baltimore
4. Gem & I

Disc Two
7. Soul Capturer
8. Stride Rite
9. All The Clubs Are Broken
10 .Defeat
11. King's Walk

Woahhhhhhhhh, organic cat, I really really like that.
Think I'd want to find a way to get Cherokee in the main album (and Car Keys and Walker if possible) but really enjoying thinking about that experience.
Edit: think I'd put "Cherokee" either before or after "Broke." Then for the EP, maybe "Walker" at the end... Passerby unfortunately gets cut in my alt world, as the weakest link.

I used organic cat's list and added Cherokee and Walker for a listen today and it was a mind-blowingly amazing album experience:

9. Walker
10. Stride Rite
11. All The Clubs Are Broken

Yeah... I had a hard time figuring out where to place them. A bit of this is based on my original assumption of the tracklist back in the 2019 boots, and the general medieval fantasy-like theming of the songs. As much as I love Cherokee, Car Keys and Strung; I feel like they stick out like sourthumbs to me when putting them all together. That said, I actually agree with your suggestion of putting Cherokee after (edit: i meant before) Broke, and Walker at the end of the EP... (ngl I forgot about Passer-by and Walker... I initially put the latter at the end of Disc One, but Royal didn't seem good anywhere else...)

Thanks dude, that means a lot! Probably not as interspersed as you meant but I think moving Car Keys later is a big improvement, rest fell into place pretty quickly

The Walkers EP
1. King's Walk
2. Passer-by
3. Walker
4. We go back
5. Stride Rite
Edit: Am I really the only one who thinks it's funny that out of the 18 songs on TS and IIN, almost one third has a title that's kind of walking related? One could even throw Sux-bier Passage and Bridge to Quite on there and it would be Walking with Animal Collective.

This is so tough. A lot of these songs to me are pairs. I literally can't imagine listening to Dragon Slayer without listening to Car Keys straight after, same for Cherokee and Passer-by despite not even being on the same side of the record. The only piece of certainty I have with any of this is that Royal and Desire is 100% the best closer for this era and Magicians is the best centerpiece and nothing will change my mind.

Tropical jazz vibes (43:03)
1. Cherokee
2. Car keys
3. Passer-by
4. Gem & I

2. Soul Capturer (single edit)
3. Prester John

6. ACAB
7. Magicians from Baltimore
8. Genie's Open
9. King's Walk
First off, I actually think the way TS and IIN turned out with the pandemic and all is great and AC made everything fit very nicely. So the official tracklists are probably the ones I'm going to listen to most ofen. However, I spent a lot of time testing how the above mentioned alternative tracklists would flow, and I really like the results, even when listening the both lists after one another. Dragon Slayer and Prester are not out of place on TS, but both Gem & I and Broke Zodiac fit the tropical vibe of the other TS songs better. So these are the only songs that are not on their original album. This makes the first list very panda heavy, but it's stylistically more consistent and more light hearted than TS.
The second list is pretty straightforward for the first three songs, but things slow down with the outro of Prester, which leads into a very chill middle section of the playlist. ACAB picks up the pace for the incredible one-two-punch of magicians and genie's. Genie's would be a perfect closer, but King's walk rounds off everything quite nicely as sort of a coda.

3. Prester John
4. Stride Rite
5. Defeat
6. ACAB

In order to make a perfect AC album out of these two I decided to separate the wheat from the chaff:
1 Soul Capturer
2 Dragon Slayer
3 Genie's Open
4 Magicians from Baltimore
5 Defeat
6 Prester John
7 Gem and I
8 Royal and Desire
had to choose the better songs/vibes to go together, hard to have to cut Cherokee, but it just doesn't fit with the best songs here imo

You're all mad. Time Skiffs and Isn't It Now? are both already perfect AC albums.

Honestly this era is very open for stuff like this since it's all so rooted in the live sets. These two albums play very well with each other. I just throw em all on a playlist sans Defeat and shuffle that thang
