Holy shit, I thought they never did FRG<Grass (only other one I've found was the faster version of FRG)

Listening to the 7/17/07 Maya performance and I'm just absolutely confused as to why this song was never committed to tape.
Just... why?

I just realized guadaloops is the chores outro.. I don’t know how I never noticed that before. Yet another strawberry jam song that predates sung tongs.

A New Orleans music venue posted a new promo pic for an upcoming Avey Tare show for Oct. 3rd.
There is text on the pic that says “I saw the LIVING UNICORN”
Wonder what it could mean?
Take a look!

I thought it could be an opening band or something but couldn't find anything when searching that name
I did find this though so maybe it's some obscure reference to it?

I can't take credit for discovering it, i tried to find some other posts online about it and l only got results when i searched for it on here. There are a few different posts about it on here but i find it kinda crazy that all this time i've never heard anyone talk about it.
Winter wonderland, half of chores, street flash, and seal eyeing were all written before sung tongs even came out, not to mention however much of person pitch was written at that time (not exactly sure how far along it was and a lot of the pp era songs that were debuted in 2004 didn't make it on the album but at the very least bros and search for delicious). I guess that definitive feeling I get from strawberry jam makes sense when you consider this. Within the four years between ark and sj animal collective reinvented themselves twice and panda and avey had established that their solo music was just as good as anything they'd done as a band. Strawberry Jam was developed throughout the course of such an insane trajectory, it feels like a culmination of everything they had been doing prior and i'm sure a lot of that comes from the fact that these songs come from various different reference points in their career prior to their official release.

Street Flash? What's the pre-Sung Tongs connection there?

Listened and was awesome! Very much an early seed of what would become the last part of Chores but it’s there! I knew this performance but may have only listened once before, a very long time ago.
Also listened to ‘2 Nights’ tonight. Would highly recommend revisiting these two performances to anyone currently indulging in their early feral period (probably throwing a glance at you right now Stan). Especially the ‘02 Chicago performance.
The Chicago show is one of the only Ark era shows out there as far as I’m aware. And it’s fucking massive and brutal and glorious. Infant Dressing Table has the intensity turned up to 11. The crude early version of Native Belle is literally buzzing with energy. Panic lives up to its name by being an irascible fucking nauseating, nightmare inducing noise onslaught in the best possible way. Hey Light wants to hurt you. And not just a little stab. Slippi is like a fever dream carnival at the end. A mad, unhinged finish to a short, explosive set of pure early AC brilliance.

Supposedly street flash, sealeyeing, and sponge luke all came from the same writing session. as far as we know sponge luke was only played once in august of 2004, sung tongs came out in may so i guess its possible they were written after it came out but not by much.

Finally some love for 2 nights!! You described the 2002 show perfectly. The 2001 performance is still one of my all time favorite ac moments. Pumpkin gets A Snakebite sounds just as batshit on here as it does on hollindagainn, it's got that feeling that defines a lot of this era, where everything feels like its about to fall apart. The untitled track is one of my favorite ac songs hand down. That feedback loop puts me in such a trance, and I love the way the whole song builds up and then winds down again. Frantic drums and those solemn ass panda vocals... it's hard for me to pick a favorite live era but the first one that comes to mind every time is the danse/hollind stuff.
Been rlly fun to talk ab their wilder sets, 2 nights and guadaloops and whatnot. Their spinning on air boot from 2004 is another classic imo. I've always thought Playpen might've been an early Loch Raven, I read somewhere they recorded that one in 2001? Maybe they just sound pretty similar. Breaks my heart in half in a similar way that raven does too. Tuvin is always a treat and sounds great on here, pumpkins funeral is haunting as all hell and gas mask reminds me of some of my favorite avey stuff, namely that split series ep he did in 2003. Really curious to see if anyone else feels that way about playpen too

yes, playpen is rad.
would have loved a whole album of this kind of stuff (maybe one day). the emotive ambient electronic kinda sound of things like this, loch raven, abyss song, sponge luke.
i dig the way playpen feels a little bit like the creepy fairytale vibe of Spirit but with all the structure just left behind for pure atmosphere.

Ark tours sound like post rock AC at some points or at least the closest AC will ever get to that

Listening to College St 2017 and the end of On Delay is just insanely good.
I need to listen PW era shows more often.

College St is easily one of my favorite live bootlegs of anything ever. Peacemaker and everything surrounding it, Bairro, Water Curses, Sweet Road->Bees, that ridiculous midsection in Summertime Clothes...less about the setlist and more about that very specific performance

Had a dream last night where I got to sneak in on an AC band meeting, held at a long candle-lit table in a dark room. All I can remember was Dave saying "we need to stop writing songs about feelings and start writing songs about things!", and Noah coming back with "well, to be fair, we did do a whole album called Feels..."

Random but I've realized my favorite releases since like mpp/oddssc/tomboy imperial era are:
1. 7s???
2. Then skiffs...
3. Then a tie between Cows and Tangerine but probably cows
Idk I love me recent solo avey. They feel like AC proper albums to me and why shouldn't they if he's always primary solo writer. Homies and Buoys are up there too but I just don't put them on like I will 7s and sometimes Skiffs or Cows. Tangerine is a specific mood thing but it fills aniche similar to like ambient Burial music almost. Anyway idk, I'm not getting tired of 7s 5+ months in or so

I still think about when I was waiting outside of the bathroom with Avey Tare at the Denver show earlier this year and couldn't think of a single thing to say lol. Maybe for the best I didn't say anything and let him be at peace. Was still kinda surreal and kinda a nice moment anyway

Being approached after the bathroom because of what you did in there. More awkward

a buddy of mine was at the urinal next to Geo at one of the recent 930 shows & realized it mid-stream and let out an involuntary “WHOA!”, then proceeded to fangirl mode. Brian was gracious given the circumstances
