Yeah I think I agree foxtrot, some of the Skiffs songs could totally be on ITT but they would have come out sounding different recorded in this context and not even really because it'd be live in studio vs remote.

Dragon slayer fits in name, and the autoharp kinda fits with the magical vibes of like Genies but it seems kinda different idk.

And yeah you'd think Prester would fit, The Path version of it DEF would via the og Music Box set. But those jazzy keyboard fills on it seems uniquely Skiffs and not ITT maybe. Tie-ing it more in with how Royal feels kinda pink floyd-y style jazzy prog rock

iTT is about these big longer wild songs and then shorter moments of levity (panda songs, clubs), jester style + a chanting drone of a closer.

SWE and Cherokee is long... And the end of Cherokee reminds me of the end of Genies a bit, and the beginning is kinda Soul Capture-y but idk. Idk idk. This is the best timeline or something

i feel like the "medieval vs. lounge" dichotomy is a thing insofar as like, those are definitely two major aesthetic ingredients of the batch of songs being released over the course of two albums, but i don't think there's a particularly good reason to assign "lounge" to skiffs and "medieval" to IIN? i mean, a major part of the time skiffs aesthetic was the band dressed in full body cloaks and artwork of similarly dressed figures in rowboats, which is decidedly more on the medieval side of the dichotomy. i think the albums will feel different from each other for sure (they already do based on the singles), but that's mainly because they were recorded in massively different circumstances from each other and mixed by different people

also yeah i'm trying best i can not to think too much about how the skiffs songs could've sounded had they been recorded under better circumstances now that we've heard how good the results of better circumstances are lol

first hint was user williedustice who has heard the album said weeks ago that the title was a lyric from one of the songs - then a week or two ago some people randomly started receiving postcards in the mail that just said 'isnt it now' on them, followed by a website going live with the same name that was registered by domino

And I mean I love studio Cherokee pretty good as is... And dragon... But idk idk. I might just be reacting to the novelty of how good Soul sounds.

And I also have this theory that were kind of placebo tainted by just knowing that Skiffs was recorded remote. Like if someone told me they were done in same way as ITT actually it'd set me at ease or something. But nah Defeat and Soul do sound kinda extra great.

All I can really complain about on skiffs is vocals a bit low on Dragon and Track 2 and passerbys ending forces me to forget '189boots even tho it's not like I even dislike new version. Also maybe a single auto tune track seems to be missing from Cherokee climax. But like is it, the climax sounds fantastic so who knows

Yeah IMO Cherokee, Prester John, and Royal were the songs on Skiffs that felt like they were best suited by the album's production. Definitely prefer them in that way, especially Prester John which is like a top 5 AC for me... Car Keys and Passerby are two songs that I think would have really benefited from recording with Elevado

Magicians and Genies will be so so so insane. And like all of it but really those two in this production/mixing quality goddamn. Panda songs and Deak too but idkkk Magicians and Genies are also the oldest if you consider Magicians was the second track played at MBV and Sea of Light was before that even

You know these songs are powerful when im this excited about the first listen and these songs are friggin 5 years old mostly. They haven't aged really.

I'm gonna have to have a listening ceremony with incense and like fast for 3 days beforehand or something idk. blood ritual etc

Just yesterday I was sitting in my comfy chair in the music box village thinking like wow magicians is cool, yeah magnolias hell ya. Was the ending even the same at all back then, I don't listen to MBV recordings. The ending was something I fell in love with during blast sessions and Mishawaka show '22

I really really love Skiffs sounding the way it does, and I'm happy that they have a foil in each other and don't sound like one big album split up. That said.... why couldn't they hold off on Car Keys.... Not even for the production, but that outro : '(. But I also think it's inseparable from slayer and PJ which I think work better in the Skiffs context. Actually the only one I think I'd want on this instead is Car Keys and only because it needed to be 2 minutes longer which I believe is something they realized after recording it for Skiffs haha

Car Keys is a weird one to me. I don't really love it but def don't dislike it either. It's a curio basically. I like the call and response at end for sure... And knowing it was a chz demo makes sense. Extended outro is maybe a slight whiff but I like outro as it is and maybe they wanted to focus on prester having a longer outro

The ending of both Magicians and Genies will bitch slap everyone to death. I wonder how vampire weekend-y that last coda section of magicians will be and how loud the gnarly lil butt rock guitar bend sample geo does will be. I'm assuming not super loud but I know it'll be there and Ill jizz either way

I still love it for what it is, I think they actually came up with the ending after recording the song. I go back and forth on whether or not I really care about the outro cuz there's one version I have that's like studio quality live so it works out.

Can't believe how long I've been waiting for "Sea of Light" to come out. Hearing it on the Sung Tongs tour was a transformative experience. So happy it's gonna finally come out, I love it in all its forms

They アlレアdy chopped off at least 45 seconds from Genie's, which I'm going to assume is the fantastic Trains Across The Sea interpolation (i will never forgive them for this), and possibly even the I WOULND UV SHULDNUV WALKED IN THERE CAREFULY~

yeah genie's magicians and soul were the new additions to the 2021 new song roster, then 2022 was all the same songs, but the unreleased ones were in updated forms because they'd been tweaked and recorded that past december

Gem still belongs on Time Skiffs in my mind. The fact that they did try to record it during those sessions really solidifies that. It's got vibraphone-esque synths and it's totally lounge-y. I actually feel like Broke Zodiac goes with IIN? much better... it's not really jazzy, just pretty.

Hey, I guess it's good there's maybe a couple seemingly."mismatched" songs on each one to better prove that at the end of the day it's just a weird double album. Where one half is kind of undeniably gonna be at least a lil better, I mean is anything on Skiffs even really trying to be as good as Genies, Magicians or Defeat... Also I like these panda songs soooo much better than Car Keys and Walker. Like skiffs is a light 9/10, IIT is clearly an 11

I like that that each clearly have their own distinctive character. They’re siblings that have these fundamental similarities but still have their own personality and style.

I appreciate the positivity, the retroactive FOMO will run its course, i’m just buzzing like crazy off of how soul cap sounds (recency etc) but I really do think soul capturer will be a favorite for me in the long run, just the way prester john was and is

i’m sorry to say but i am so relieved we have new press photos to look at — i was getting absolutely sick of looking at the “skiff ghost” pictures over and over. it’s an extremely minor thing but although i like the time skiffs cover art, i really didn’t like the way that aesthetic translates to those photos

It is really incredible how much this song just suddenly sings now. I was pretty indifferent towards and it’s still essentially the same song/melody etc but it has completely come alive.

Also really happy with it as an opener. Knowing that I’ll probably still like every other song even more it’s just amazing. It’ll set the scene before the big guns come in and steal it.


I keep singing these songs in order in my head. Trying to imagine/piece together the transitions and sequencing. It’s a little IIN? party in my mind.

Somehow I thought Broke had been running to 6 or 7 minutes in 2022 boots, so I was shocked to see 2:45 for it. Turns out I was just totally wrong. haha

But I'm really interested to see how the wildly varying run times for these tracks impacts how the album feels overall. I mean, Broke, Gem, and Clubs combined are shorter than Magicians by itself.

Yea the Blast version of Broke is only off 2:45 by a few seconds, I think it might end up being pretty similar to that version , except obviously juiced out in the studio
