PJ had don’t let me down vibes. SC makes me think of you’ve got to hide your love away.
I love the song, for me the production is perfect this time. I like it better than of TS (though it was also good). can’t wait to hear the whole thing!

Didn’t Willie say there was studio chatter on SC?
So they’re saving the intro for album and maybe we get some cool little vocal bit before the drums and guitar kick in

ACAB only 2 minutes long.. not sure what to expect there, especially since it could be the last proper "song" on the album. Kings is just an acapella piece for the most part right? that's what i remember most from the boots but I've tried to stay away
also SC is amazing.
Avey in 2022: I don’t know if I can write a shorter song anymore haha

My friend’s review: “The lead singer sounds like he’s not currently trapped in a jar and being shaken up but like he WAS at one point trapped in a jar and shaken around and he’s lived in fear of it ever since but his constantly pretending to everyone he knows and maybe to himself a little that he isn’t.”

a little blurb on rough trade calls gem and i a single:
Across its 9 tracks, Isn’t It Now? has something for everyone from the catchy bassline on the highly-repeatable single “Gem and I” to the heady 22min centrepiece “Defeat” which we recently released on 12”.

Honestly though, it was either it or Broke for the next single.

I only got one listen in so far but my immediate reaction is that this is better than anything on Skiffs, at least production/sound/vibe wise. I love it and think they nailed it and it rules to see so many people on this board converted to fans after being not convinced for so long.
I feel like when the blast version of Soul dropped it was so exciting to have everyone be like "what the hell is this?" Like most people on here I feel like I am so on top of new songs and boots I find it so special when we I get to first hear completely new unspoiled AC music. I was on a camping trip up in Maine with my now fiancé and I was like literally struggling to get phone service to be able to stream it. Lots of good memories from the soul capturer.

Love it. Sounds like the kind of song I would randomly find on YouTube during that blissful year that I discovered AC. Something about the song’s tempo and soundscape bleeds nostalgia for me.

Also would love to know but kind of don't. I know it's pretty hard to get rights/permissions in cases like this but I've always held out hope that the DCB estate would be ok with it since the Avey and Geo are such deep fans.

just ran it through some plugins - the backwards effect in the transition is actually an apology from the band for not putting defeat on the album

knowing the way they've teased projects using loyal fans that purchase stuff on domino, i'm not buying anywhere else. even though the tangerine is much nicer and fits the cover better for sure.

Conservative rural guy here, love Feels, was my first album. Love all AnCo albums. It's just good vibes.
im gonna need some explanation here,
conservative meaning what?
do you hate brown people and gay people?
Fuck off with the politics. Every time politics comes up on this board it ruins the fun. The “play Feels i think they’d like it” bit is fucking funny. Fuck off we’re having a good time here ol’ sport.
no
i also think soul capturer is an explicitly political song

confused, defeat is track 5 on the album.
i got an email from domino that has the track listing (though i imagine it's already been posted):
1. soul capturer
2. genies
3. broke zodiac
4. magicians from baltimore
5. defeat
6. gem and i
7. stride rite
8. all the clubs are broken
9. kings walk
who was closest by the way?

One of my favourite AC anecdotes is Stevie Wonder's manager being like "absolutely fucking not, I won't even waste Stevie's time with this shit" when they asked to include the I Just Called To Say I Love You snippet on the studio version of TPB. I don't see the Silver Jews reps acting the same way but I also don't see AC going for it a second time. Stand to be corrected though (cough Willie cough).

I like to think Stevie woulda been cool with it if it ever made it up to him, he gets crazy with the effects sometimes.

On first listen it's slightly different from what I was expecting, but in a really exciting way. Have no idea what surprises to expect for the rest of the songs! Avey's voice is straight up beautiful here.

The mix is SO much more cohesive and proportional than Time Skiffs. Damn. They knocked it out the park, as did Russ.

I agree! Also I wonder if they had to clear it for Live at 9:30?

are we getting a "sea of light" 2017 sung tongs tour era genies??? to be honest i would love that, i definitely prefer sea of light and was absolutely mind blown when they played it in 2017.
soul capturer sounds so good! i was honestly a big fan of it from the beginning. anytime i see noah playing guitar i get super excited. and the song has a certain grateful dead-iness about it which i love.
