Danny Brown supposedly submitted his album to Warp 2 years ago and it's still not out. It would just be the same shit

There’s something weird going on with that Danny album. I refuse to believe that Danny Brown, one of the hottest artists on Warp right now, handed in a fully complete record. And Warp said - nah let’s just leave it for 2 years. Especially since his last two albums on the label were so successful critically.
That’s a discussion for elsewhere though I suppose

Danny blamed his manager Dart more than Warp for the record not being out, then said this a few days later in a since deleted tweet:
not to derail further, but anyway... hard to know how much Warp played a part in the delay when the narrator is maybe unreliable...
also FYI Danny said Quaranta is not a summer record so that's why he was sitting on it, but could expect a single soon, then album in autumn

How many reviewers during their review of this album mention MPP and not Time Skiffs? My guess is at least 1 fairly reputable publication

My fear is that too many reviewers will present these as Skiffs leftovers. My hope is that the brilliance of the songs will make that impossible.

I expect/hope that the label’s press literature will highlight the special care they took to save these tracks until they could record the album with russell elevado

Seriously. I don't want them to just handwave these like a lot of people do, say, Amnesiac because it came from the same songwriting sessions

It's 100% critical that Domino's press release for this record re-enforces the fact these are not leftovers and to the contrary were precious grails AC was waiting to record post-pandemic because they knew the songs deserved to be recorded together in person.
Press release will set the tone/narrative. It will be a massive disservice to the band or to these songs if the press release does not really drive the point home that these were treasures AC has been anticipating the release of, yet pandemic delayed their release, rather than using any kind of sequel/part 2 language which will clearly get misconstrued to mean "leftovers" by many. But as andthephantom pointed out, hopefully the strength of the material will make it impossible to think that.

Comparisons to Kid A/Amnesiac don't really fit here imo because Kid A was already a highly acclaimed milestone of an album from a band in their prime that Amnesiac had the massive task of following up. Time Skiffs had a middling critical reaction at best I'd say, and I think the production and vibe of Isn't it Now is gonna be different enough that most people will naturally view it as its own thing.

would be a bit sensationalist to make it seem like they cared about these songs more than they cared about the skiffs ones i think, the distinction seemed to be more logistical than anything
in any case, curious what the honest general opinion is here on how good of a collection of tracks this is on the whole. personally as much as i do think it seems like a bit of a hodgepodge, i think the best songs are better than the best of skiffs, and i don't see any of them possibly coming out worse than passerby or strung, so

of course all songs are precious to AC and the click-track/non-click track songs were how they divided these up, butttttttttttt yes i am saying that i do want Domino to sensationalize the fuck out of these tracks that's true dawg let's get hyperbolic

ya it's definitely hodgepodge, but this batch is far superior IMO, and as Hellomark just mentioned had they saved "Cherokee" for this one it would've had all their best songs from that era...
i LOVED Strung, and the glow-up for "Royal and Desire" was perfect, those were my other favorites from TS
as evidence from our extensive tracklist predictions, it feels pretty hard to order these songs, so i wonder if cohesion will be a common critical complaint.

~44:40 they start talking Time Skiffs. Glowing enough review that I am willing to put money on "Isn't it Now" being the album they hinted at. Kinda moot now but w/e

I think it’s important to remember that us weirdos are really the only people who know that these songs stemmed from the same live shows as the Time Skiffs songs. Maybe a small percentage of music fans would put two and two together. To most people who hear this album on a whim it’ll just be a new animal collective album. Either way I think the fact that these songs we so special to the band to have to record them together will speak a lot to most listeners.

Odd pick imo but there we have it. Jam I'm least hyped for without a doubt. In fact only jam I'm not hyped for really...

I've liked SC as a single ever since it glowed up and shifted lyrically a bit in '22 shows.
But if that's next week give us that sweet sweet G&I or BZ panda single late aug or sumn. I think some casuals would only sorta like SC but everyone's gonna like something like Gem

Soul capturer is special to me cause I didn't know of its existence until I saw them in Toronto. I thought they were covering something, it feels so unlike them. Honestly great choice for a first single, that melody sticks

for anyone else does this album feel like the holy grail/final frontier of art you are looking forward to? there aren't any videos games or books or other music i'm really looking forward to, zelda came out, succession ended, there's some tv/film that's in the can that i'm looking forward to but nothing that rises to the level of hype as this album (nothing that feels 'special' in the same way this album does), and with the writers' strike and possible sag-aftra strike coming and causing a tv/film drought, this album coming out really is gonna feel like the end of an era of art appreciation for me. anyone else feel similarly?
sorry for the late quote, but i'm catching up on this thread. i definitely feel you here! this feels like a destination.
that said, two pieces of media i'm extremely excited for are severance season 2 (season 1 was one of my favorite TV seasons ever), killers of the flower moon (comes out on my birthday!), and the quietly slowly releasing new miyazaki film, the boy and the heron. that last one is probably the closest to this in terms of its mythical quality & just general magic!

yeah if any of these david lynch rumors actually amount to something that's the only thing that could be on the same tier as this AC album for me lol
speaking of the connection between lynch and anco, did anyone else go to that lynch-sponsored event where anco played tangerine reef in brooklyn? centered around transcendental meditation? i think jon hopkins and flylo were the same day. there's certainly a connection there! lynch would be one of my holy grails, along with portishead's long-rumored fourth and boards of canada's long-rumored fifth. but miyazaki's the boy and the heron is absolutely grail-level, and i cannot wait to see it.
