I know! I wonder if Rev Green was also based on a Franz Liszt loop. Super intriguing...

isn't the Safer sample present in the original live recordings? Sounds to my ears like it's actually a harp, and they replayed the melody in the studio on the piano.

Also

has anyone else played around with the 'sing' mode on Apple Music? You can listen to a lot of AC songs as (mostly) instrumentals. Despite it apparently being AI, it does a pretty damn good job at removing vocals and revealing other sounds.

So I was super late in finding out about New Psycho Actives Vol. 2 and I have to say - Summer Blaze is an excellent track. Seriously one of the most interesting productions in their catalog. The entire first half of it (I'm assuming Geo's contribution) sounds unlike anything else they've done, but in someway also shows hallmarks of the Music Box Village. I'm thinking Sundown with Cecil/Cecil at Sundown...whichever it was.
I really hope that they bring this tone and atmosphere with them into the next albums songs - especially Defeat. The strings from the Music Box Village version add so much to it.

Yeah Summer Blaze is amazing, good to see more people giving it love. I think it's the third section, with the piano and what sounds like some sort of emotional robot voice is so stunning and massive sounding, feels like a fluke that it ended up on such a low-key deep cut release.

Listened to the mix falling asleep last night and it ruled! Great selection, a few versions I didn't hear before, and a ton of all time favorite choices. Some of the familiar ones sounded better sound quality wise than I remember. Wonder if she eq'd or mastered them? Big ups to Maral!!

I’ve decided the second new AC album incoming is Spirit They’re Gone pt 2 where Avey returns to the woods with his guitars and electronics as an old man and reacquaints himself with his old forest friends, then after he finished the album he sent the album to Panda who did the drums from Portugal

I need to dump this interview here because i keep losing it and then i have to really dig to find it again.

https://www.uncut.co.uk/features/animal ... bum-11716/

This is the source (though I don't know if it's the only source) for the information about Spirit and Panda's drums being inspired by Ocean Rain and Forever Changes which has needed a citation on Wikipedia for like 10 years now.

Avey also mentions reading short stories by Guy de Maupassant, which is where the inspiration for La Rapet comes from.

This contributes nothing - I just need to post this here so I can find it later and I know if I save it on my pc or any other medium I'm never going to remember where I put it

Aha thank you. The telephone game over the de Maupassant story is over. Also other great stuff in there.

There's a part of the interview where Noah describes sung tongs as trying to do something similar to the kompakt pop ambients comps, always loved those i had no idea they directly influenced what might be my favorite album ever.

It likely would have been 2006 after the success of Feels had been felt for a few months.

It may seem a little strange at first, but RHCP often finds an established band that is coming off the heels of their first sort of brush with mainstream success and likes to offer them supporting spots. Muse opened for RHCP after their first album and appearance at Woodstock '99, and Animal Collective played the same T in the Park Festival that RHCP did in 2006, which may have been a sort of similar exposure. RHCP played with a post-Yoshimi Flaming Lips, !!!, Sleigh Bells, the Vaccines pretty much right after their first album came out, etc. etc. I mean stylistically I feel like the two bands would go together about as well as oil and water, but RHCP has been touring with the Mars Volta for like 15 years now so I don't really think style concerns matter too much to them

yes, I think that was at some performance where they covered Radiohead's Pyramid Song while literally playing at the Great Pyramid of Giza, and I think that until you mentioned it, I sort of only remembered it as a fever dream

I'm thinking of putting together an unnoficial animal crack box pt. 2, what would you guys recommend as inclusions for that, I'd like it if it was kinda definitive and pulled together everything unreleased/reworked that we have in 1 place so that anyone can access it easily
edit: i am sure this has been talked about/done in the past but i am not aware of it if so, so giving it a fresh go now , also I am very much open to solo inclusions as well

i started making a playlist like that on spotify with local files just to have all the loose stuff on hand, this has been super helpful fhttps://rateyourmusic.com/list/tiikwid/comprehensive-animal-collective-discography/

Do you want stuff that was only unreleased, or stuff that was actually released but very obscure, like Seeing Twinkles?

I only ask because there actually isn't that much unreleased or even reworked stuff (assuming you mean early live versions that were reworked into something new for an actual release, like Taste) post-MPP that we know of, but there's a shit ton of "rarities".
