I'm cheating because no one can stop me and I'm putting 15. More so I wanted to keep going past 10 because it was interesting to just see my gut ranking and how I compared things. But not like this is such a hard ranking. Also way too early for me to throw Time Skiffs in, but I think it'll make the list.
Random thoughts as I think about the album while being very tired.
1. Feels
This is probably my favorite production on any album ever. Like wet, and everything feels natural. This to me is their true middle ground between the two prime eras of the band. Loch Raven and Banshee Beat are unbeatable.
2. Fall Be Kind
Reminds me of walking around my college campus at night in the winter. "What's in the way??" is one of my favorite musical moments ever.
3. Merriweather Post Pavilion
My first anco release. Captures a sort of reverence and gratitude for life and probably has the best melodies in their discography. Taste is also unbeatable. Wish they would do more of that kind of two vocal lines at once.
4. Sung Tongs
The Softest Voice is sacred. Vocals are perfect.
5. Strawberry Jam
Kinda tied in my mind with Feels as the most quintessential album that showcases what makes the band special but still falls in the "modern" era for me. But this is saturated while Feels is natural, which isn't a bad or good thing. I don't know of any other artist that can scream like they do on this but have it be so beautiful.
6. Spirit They’re Gone
This album is saturated with young, naive talent. Second half of Bat You'll Fly is so good. This album made me think of the role of percussion entirely differently in music.
7. Water Curses
If I can include Safer in here then yeah I'll do that too haha. Street Flash is so wonderful and juicy
8. Person Pitch
I'm not.
9. Pullhair Rubeye (Reversed)
This makes me sad in a beautiful way when I listen to it.
10. Sleep Cycle
Golden Chords stands with the groups best.
11. Tomboy
For whatever reason, I like this more and more each year. Has a classic vibe to it even though I usually don't point to specific stand out songs.
12. Centipede Hz
Burritos are one of my favorite foods actually.
13. Campfire Songs
Two Corvettes 1:30 to 2:20 is one of the best vocal harmony melodies ever created. Soto De Son is perfect.
14. Painting With
I love the hocketing actually. Super fun w/ headphones. They just needed to chop off splling guts and summing the wretch. Fart synths can be fun every now and then.
15. Ark
I actually like this and Hollindagin a lot, but rarely listen to them. So I have a hard time gut ranking them higher, but this has a core sound to the band that is very special to me, and quintessentially them. But like I need to be alone and just sitting there to really get into it.
